Due to many coaching changes about to happen, I started this to speculate on what recruits we could be trying to snatch up.

Auburn?
Tenn?
...?

Id love to grab a few of these recruits who are probably very talented, though the fact that they picked those schools leads me to believe they are looking for a college experience that is different that what they would get at Notre Dame.

Most of Tennessee and Auburn's commits werent really recruited by the ND staff or never had much interest.

Besides Max Redfield, I dont really see us trying to poach kids away from other schools. Our season will help us with the uncommitted top talent still up for grabs.

A kid like Tashawn Bower committed to Auburn may start looking around. Hes from Riddick's high school. But as Canada said I dont think we're looking at any of these prospects

There are lots of schools with coaches on the hot seat including USC and there are several recruits there we recruited heavily. Also i thought we heavily recruited one of the linebackers at auburn?

Greg Bryant's top 2 are South Carolina and Auburn. South Carolina fans believe that David Williams is a silent to them and once he goes public they won't take Bryant. If Bryant visits I think we have a good shot at him.

Trey Johnson? Wasn't he one that had interest in ND? Or am I confusing w someone else. I thought there was at least 1 stud LB that had verballed to AU that had interest in visiting.

Guys, there's no room at the inn. We're still looking to add AQM, Redfield, and hopefully Folston, and we barely have room for them even if/when Mattingly decommits. And there's other guys we are recruiting as well. So to paoch other recruits - where are we going to put them? If they didn't want us in the first place, and if we didn't land in their top 3 anyways, why would the coaches waste more resources on those guys when we are already going after some major-league studs?

Yeah like LA said, if we had more open spots then I'm sure we'd jump all over these kids (no homo). Barring any decommits or further injuries I just see us focusing on the three LA mentioned. Maybe one more but that's it.

This is a bit debateable and depends largely on what happens with Jamel James, Louis Nix, and Zach Martin.

^^^ this...
So so many unknowns at this point. I think BK and team cover more bases than we think... Also, doesn't EEs give you a break in numbers (if you need them). IMO, between potential decommits, going pro, 5th year vs. stud deliberation, injuries, ND potentially not getting folks like Max and Folston, etc.. there's a lot more to consider than we'd like to think. I know I don't like to think about it... gives me a f'ing headache.

Nix? You mean Fox/Calabrese? You feel Nix might jump to the pros?

I think Nix is playing like a first round draft choice right now. I think there will be a big premium on getting his degree, but if we win the 'ship all bets are off in my book.

If we were't just 3 commits away from filling up I could see some new recruits seeking interest in Notre Dame and vice versa. But with Notre Dame going 110 miles an hous for AQM, Folston, and Redfield, I don't see any "surprises" this year

You all also have to consider potential transfers + medicals.

People say we *maybe* have room for 3... that's correct as things stand RIGHT NOW... by mid-January we could have room for 5+.

I agree the fact that finding good nose takles is so hard would definitley in my mind make him a first round talent now. All the analysts are already talking about his presence and I guarantee the NFL scouts have noticed. Poe for goodness sakes went in the top 15 and he wasn't even good in college. He may have been more athletic but Nix is a better player. I know people have said that he wants his degree but it's hard to turn down a lot of money when you have the opportunity.

I just hope he keeps in mind that football doesn't last forever. Some poeple say NFL stands for "Not For Long"

I never got that sense from Nix and I am sure some of the decision will be how his family is holding up and since I know none of those things, you never know. I agree that all bets would be off and I, like all of ND hope he stays one more year. I can see him getting the C next season if he stays. Completely agree he is playing like a 1st round draft pick too.

We need more IrishChocolate videos!

That's very key. We've heard of a player or two that might not be able to suit up anymore. Uncertainties surrounding Martin, Watt, Fox, Calabrese, Slaughter..nobody really knows how many we have left.

Man it just gets more and more exciting.

I only think one would stay and I would say that it will probably be Calabrese. He brings a good physical presence

I am currious as to why you think Danny Fox would leave, from his perspective or the programs.

I would love to see Fox stay. His versatility has been important against more athletic offenses this year.

And I would absolutely hate to see Nix leave. His presence in the middle is crucial to a 3-4 D's success. If he goes you better keep Carlo because we'll have more holes to plug between the tackles. There's just no replacing Big Lou right now.

No hard or fast rule to go by but 2 or 3 seems reasonable. There always seems to be medical conditions that surface over the winter/early spring that the fanbase doesn't know about. Then there are academics and Res Life surprises.
