Companies are in business to make a profit. If they allowed people to just buy warranties/insurance whenever they KNEW they were going to need it, they'd be paying out all the time and losing their ass. It's not how they roll.

Insurance companies have, do, and always will find any lil thing possible to get out of covering.

Private insurance companies are ruthless and are a big reason why the ACA sucks. Pre-existing conditions are reasons my back surgery won't be covered with short-term disability, even though it's technically a new vertebrae that's injured. Insurance is a freaking scam and I hate it. I also hate that it's a necessary evil. There are some policies you just can't self-insure.

Koon, it was cheaper for them to pay $70 than to send someone to look at the situation. He's talking about several appliances and a central air unit. They'll send someone out for his.

That's what I was thinking and said above - if it's big time, I bet there's more of an investigation.

I've never had a home warranty, but have purchased the extended warranty on my TV and washer. In both instances both failed and I got a brand new replacement with no deductible. I think you need to be selective on extended warranties and weigh the cost of the warranty against the cost of a new item.

Most new heat pumps/furnaces/AC's now come with a ten year parts and labor warranty, so there's no need to buy a home or extended warranty to cover these items.

I always felt like that stuff was supplemental insurance like AFLAC? Cant see how a company would insure something that's about to die.
