I'll take a crack at it.

Does Kizer suffer sophomore slump or continue to progress? - He's the back up

Does he even win the job? -No

It honestly blows my mind that Kizer had statistically the best start to an ND career as a Quarterback and yet people still don't think he is going to be the starter next year.

Kizer should absolutely be the starter next year. Its a no-brainer isnt it? Do people actually think Zaire will be Qb1?

Unless Kizer suffers a sophomore slump, he's the starter.

While I think he should, and he will play, I also think it will be an open contest. BK did tell MZ's mom not to worry and that it was his team. IMO we'll see a lot of both.

That was probably not smart. I know he said it to make her feel better but now it's going to be something he will have to explain away.

Yep, I think I said something along the same lines when BK said it.

I am sure this has been said before, and i am not trying to fuel the fire, but is MZ on track to graduate this spring?

Do you think Zaire will actually transfer though? He has to be close to a degree, correct? I would think if he wasn't the starter that he would finish his degree and then leave as a grad transfer for a fifth year.

Don't want to derail the thread but no way Malik takes over next year.

I will be shocked if Kizer isn't the starter next year.

Look at OSU. They had a Heisman candidate in Braxton at QB. He goes down before the year and look - JT/Cardale step up and win a NC. Next year - that Heisman candidate is now the WR.

No reason for Zaire to transfer, he'd have to sit out a year right? Might as well stick around and get a degree and have the opportunity to step in if Kizer gets hurt. Then after he graduates he could basically have his pick of schools to play for his final year of eligibility.

I also would not count out BK having special packages for Zaire to come in and wreak havoc on a defense for two or three possessions per game. The Golson/Zaire 1-2 worked brilliantly against LSU, and a Kizer/Zaire combo would arguably be even more effective.

the thing is though, what can MZ do that DK can't?

Miller injured his shoulder and lost the ability to put zip on the ball when he threw. That has as much to do with his move to WR as anything.

100% agree. Malik may be the better runner but I just cant see Kizer not getting the nod after a year of experience and production.

Now the question...do you keep him on the bench as the backup qb full time or get him on the field at another position while he serves as backup qb?

I cant fathom the idea that anyone would want to replace him. He was great out there, and has 3 years to get even better. Why set him back because you feel Malik got a bad deal?

The way people get hurt around here, I'd stick around at any position.

Kizer between the 20's.

Zaire in the red zone.

Problem solved.

I don't think OSU is a fair comparison FYI. ND has two guys who appear to really have it together physically and mentally. OSU had one in Barrett. Cardale Jones is a moron.

Yes, Braxton was not able to return as a QB. Also, he was never going to be a QB at the next level. Urbie did him a favor putting him at a different position as a tryout for the NFL.

That comment BK made to Malik's mom is really gonna bite him. I really can't see MZ winning the starter's job back. There has been a lot of conversation about him not being a good practice player but come game time he stands out. If that is the case, how is ever going to overcome Kizer?

I'm quite happy with how Kizer played this year. He was a very pleasant surprise and I'm really excited about him going forward.

HOWEVER, he has had the benefit of playing in front of the best pass protecting line in college football and is surrounded by a ton of talent. I think he's been excellent but there is a reason there was no competition this fall. Obviously Kizer has grown tremendously since then. I don't think he's been so good that you don't really and truly entertain a competition at the position and give Zaire a real chance to win the job in 2016.

This will be the first time in 5 years where BK says the 'open competition' like he says every year, only this will be the first time we can't predict with 100% accuracy who the starter will actually be.

Looks to me like it was explained correctly. Now it's up to Malik to retake his team.

Yeah, I don't think that comment will end up being that big of a deal anyway.

I'm sure Malik knows that he's got a mountain to climb if he wants that job back, and I doubt he's going to go "but but you said on the TV show that it was my team!"
