Would really like to hear your thought on this steaming pile.
Things I would recommend doing other than paying to see this movie:
1. Bang your head against the wall for 2 1/2 hours.
2. Go get your teeth cleaned.
3. Get drunk, call an ex and make a fool of yourself.
4. Commit grand theft auto.
5. Fight a random bum on the street.

Thanks for the heads up. I was checking it out this week. What's so awful about it? Does the fact that I never got into "Aliens" make a difference?

Some were saying it was a prequel to Aliens but Ridley Scott says it was not.
Just horrible casting, no character development, plot holes so big you could drive the Prometheus through them. I actually know less about the movie now than before I saw it. I don't mind movies that leave a few questions unanswered, but I actually have more questions after the movie than before I saw it.

I have to say I really liked it. Good story, good acting, great visuals. Answered some back story questions about aliens and created more questions about the giants, and creation. The movie did a good job creating mystery as to why the creators would sacrafice themselves to engineer the human race, only to plan their later extinction. Noomi Rapace was a great fit not to mention hot. Hope to see a continuation of her searching for answers.

Sometimes that's a good thing (questions). IMO there was more character development here than in Alien. I don't think it needs to be considered a prequel, but does answer some questions like who were the giants, where'd aliens come from, etc..

IMO, there's a difference between leaving you with some questions and leaving you scratching your head over major plot points. You could eliminate Charlize Theron completely and the movie would not skip a beat.

I thought it was okay. Had great visual effects and some fine performances. Script was weak, though.

The original script called for the prequel to Alien. However once Lindleoff (of Lost fame) was brought on, they rewrote it. In fact Lindleoff stated that if they were allowed to make Prometheus 2, it would be even farther from the Alien story line.

I give you the following sites to read about to ponder the question plaguing many a person who watched this movie:

cavalorn: Prometheus Unbound: What The Movie Was Actually About

&

Anatoli's Game Room: Prometheus questions and plotholes (heavy spoilers)

This pretty much sums up how I felt leaving the theater.

It's definitely a good watch if you enjoy seeing people get killed by aliens. Bravo on visuals. They were top notch. (Or so it seemed at the drive-in.)

What did you find confusing?

Fassbender's performance was incredible.

Fassbender's performance was great. Of course it was nothing compared to Alien, but it didn't try to be like Alien. I loved it.

Good stuff (first one). Haven't read the second one yet. Cavalorn picked up a few things I didn't, and furthered what I did. Scott is a trip.

Here's the deal:

1. I got hammered because we watched it at Alamo Draft house (you can order drinks while you watch the movie)
2. It was ABSOLUTELY a prequel to Aliens. You're a moron if you couldn't see that. Just check out the end.
3. It was pretty awful. There were so many holes in the plot. How did they come to the conclusion to fly to that planet? because of cave writing?? LOL. It made no sense. There were some neat scenes, the arm break, but it wasn't worth paying to go see.

I rate movies two ways: Wait for DVD, or theater.

Wait for DVD. I wish I did. Wasn't worth the hangover and nightmares about giant white dudes chasing me.

It was very pretty to look at, but that's about it.
Prometheus = poop

Spoilers below:

-Why the heck would they make a star map to their testing ground?
-Why are these drawings made?
-What purpose do they have? Just a reason to get the all star cast to an alien planet basically.
-For no reason other than to advance the plot, David seems to be able to not only read, but locate and workout exactly how to work a nearly invisible alien control panel to get the holographs to come on.
-A super storm from nowhere arrives but somehow the 2 people who left first are left behind.
-Why did the black liquid effect everyone differently? Disintegrated the engineer, made the human man sick, but impregnated the human woman.
-Why did the scientist think that petting an alien life form would be a good idea?
-Why would you lead an expedition if you're gravely ill?
-why leave a map at all if you don't want to be found and might destroy your creation?
-How did the captain figure out what the world was after just 30 seconds off ship?
-Why would the engineer go after the woman instead of just jumping on another ship?
-How did the squid get to be 20x's it's size in a matter of hours despite no food?
-Why didn't Theron zig zag away from the falling ship?
-After all this, they decide to go to the 'real' home planet instead of warning Earth.

I usually love Scott's work, but this one was a stink fest.

Best review I've seen for it so far. Creator of lost, that's really all that needs to be said.

Edit -- RLM has another Prometheus review in addition to the one linked up top. It's worth a view. Half in the Bag is my favorite weekly series on the internet right now. Also, if you hated Starwars I-III, their Mr. Plinkett reviews are top-notch. They're feature-length but very entertaining.

This is disheartening. I was so psyched to go see it on the big screen. My willing suspension of disbelief can only take so much and it sounds like I will have to wait for this on DVD..... shame. I do not like major plot holes....

MAJOR PLOT HOLES SUCK. I will never forgive what Michael Bay and Steven Speilberg did to Tranasformers...>EVER!!!!!!!!!!

If there was ever a brand that could go on infitnitely on the big screen, it was Transformers. They f'ing blew it big time. Now I am just a pessimist. Sorry for the rant. Thanks for the heads up.

Not familiar with the "Alien" films, nor have I seen Prometheus. So when you say "prequel to Aliens," do you mean that it was a prequel to the second film of the series titled "Aliens," or do you mean that it was a prequel to the three Alien films in general?

I promise I'm not being a smartass, I'm just not familiar with the Alien movies but I do have interest in seeing Prometheus.

Prequel to "Alien", thus a prequel to the "Aliens" franchise.

It was, in a round about way. It was way more a prequel before Lindleoff re-wrote the story. Lindleoff has said that if they get to make a sequel it will be even further from the Alien franchise.

It was pretty clear to me when the acutal "Alien" popped outta the guy at the end.

And where it goes from here, who knows?

In my opinion, they should've stuck with the Alien prequel idea, instead of denying it. And then looking like idiots because it obviously is. (or at least it shows how the alien creature was created)

You could still see Prometheus and not be familiar with Aliens. But you wont have that "ah-ha" moment at the end that those in the theater had at the end of the movie.

No biggie.

I'd still wait for DVD if you have a nice set up at home.

The alien seed pods in the large room that open and pretty much everything I saw in the trailer looked like it was straight out of an H.R. Giger artbook....

I had high expectations for this film. I am a big fan of the first two Alien films, and expected better. With that being said, I normally deal with the early disappointment, sit back and enjoy what is good about the film. I think Science Fiction fans can be a tough crowd. I enjoyed the film, once I decided it was closer, in theory, to Expendables than Saving Private Ryan.

I do have to say, the one thing that bothered me the most was the line where Vickers says " we are "half a billion miles from Earth," and, in fact, that's only a bit past Jupiter. Perspective is important for me when I go and see a film. I want 2001 A Space Odyssey, but I also enjoy Spaceballs.

People who know about science are even tougher. I absolutely love everything about space and the universe and if I would have heard that I would have walked out. The nearest star to us is Proxima Centauri and is 4.2 light years away. Plus if it was only .5 billion miles that would not even be all the way to Jupiter (Jupiter is 624 million miles from Earth on average) and anyway they would not need the cryo containers..... as it would really only take about 5-10 years with present day ion propoulsion technology. God this just gets worse and worse....

Its one thing to read a Jules Verne novel and the Victorian era public be scientifically illiterate about the universe, but its another for the public to be well versed in present day scientific knowledge and sit through that. Sci-fi has to do better.

Point of minutae: Neil Degrasse Tyson ripped James Cameron for the sky in "Titanic" because it wasn't the correct sky for the Artic at the time of the year. Cameron subsequently replaced it with the correct sky in the recent re-release.
