Former Colorado special teams coordinator Trevor Reilly told Jason Jones of Sports Illustrated this week that he spent time in the Middle East last winter trying to secure NIL funds from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). Reilly mentioned his trip overseas in a resignation letter that he gave to Colorado athletic director Rick George and head coach Deion Sanders earlier this month.
Reilly provided a copy of the letter to Jones.
“I even went to Saudi Arabia and got a meeting with the Saudis, who were interested in pursuing business,” Reilly wrote. “I have email receipts to prove it, and you guys let it fall flat on its face.”
Reilly claimed in the letter that Colorado agreed to pay him a “modest salary” as special teams coordinator, which was a position that allowed him to spend time working on NIL-related matters. He also said he acted on his own accord with the trip to the Middle East but that he “did nothing illegal and was trying to help Colorado the best way I knew how.”

Can't wait to see the reactions of fan bases in the Rust Belt and Sun Belt when that starts happening. One goof at Colorado under Coach Prime is one thing, but if this truly is inevitable, I'm very curious to see how fans react to it.

And it will still be the kids getting their cut that is the major problem for people and not at all what the adults are doing behind the curtain. Same as it ever was. The players are always going to be the problem.
People getting something that other people are not just fosters intense jealousy, grievance and anger.
This guy may very well have acted on his own behalf in doing this to where CU and or Deion didn't know he did it, but that's where "institutional control" would then come into play. So then would plausible deniability. He's either telling the truth or they did know he tried doing it and they can deny it entirely.

Florida State has been talking with private equity firms for awhile now too haven't they? At some point big money's big money, whether it's Saudi or Russian or good old American capitalism.
What I can't understand is why would you put an on-field coach in charge of this effort? Maybe this Trevor Reilly has some hidden experience in international finance, but looks like mostly he was a pretty good linebacker at Utah 10 years ago who spent a little time on NFL practice squads and then went into coaching. Aren't most special teams coordinator jobs mainly about recruiting?

He's claiming he acted on his own without direction from the university, athletic department or Deion. He wasn't put in charge of anything.

I think it could be a very respectable program again on the field without the circus and the bullshit this guy has brought with it. They probably won't cash as many checks but they could absolutely be a team that consistently goes to bowl games and puts together decent seasons with a competitive team.
Might end up being the only good that comes from this. I was 100% wrong about this guy.

I read Reilly saying he took what is a pretty low salary for a P5 assistant coach - $90,000 - to spend most of his time working on NIL deals.
Even if flying off to Saudi Arabia was his idea, that seems like an odd use of what is usually one of college football program's most precious resources. (the time of its on-field coaching staff).
But then Deion's not actually that in to recruiting or player development or other things assistant coaches normally do, is he.
