Colorado loses and Taylor Swift is going to be a fixture at Chiefs games.

There is a segment of American Sports Culture that is going to strut into work tomorrow morning like they just won the lottery.

What do you think of Colorado and Deion now? I took some stuff for questioning them, but it looks like building a juggernaut in one offseason isn't as easy as it looks. I told everyone TCU wasn't that good after getting beat up last season and losing lots of players. That win by Colorado was a mirage.

I would not be surprised if Colorado falls out of the top 25 this week and has to climb their way back in.
I think they're 3-1 when nobody thought they'd be 3-1 a month ago. More people talk about the head coach than the players, which is partly by design and partly by pure habit of American Sports Culture. People, including CU opponents, think they're playing Deion instead of playing Colorado. It's a phenomenon.

TCU won three games in a row and start conference play this weekend against WVU. They're 13 point favorites. I'm not sure what the hell any of that means or will mean come December, but here is what I do know: Colorado beat TCU on the road in week one. It's over and done. Dan Lanning and all the Taylor Swift fans can can replay it in their minds 15 times, but it was a win for Colorado.

highlight of their season was week 1? could be possible.

I think him turning the program in the right direction in 1 year is huge (big shout out to portal era) but there was def. too much hype around the team and their ability to be actually good too. Both can be true.

THankfully for the buffs, Taylor Swift showed up at a nfl game and the dolphins hung 70 so no one remembers much of saturday at this point.

Way too many games left.

As it stands now, 6-6 is there for the taking. Most thought this was a 2-4 win team. I think that assessment has to change, obviously. TCU, Nebraska and CSU are combined 6-0 since playing them. SC is easily their toughest home game left. They don't play Washington.

well most early season asssessments are based on previous year. this team was 85% turned over so no one knew a damn thing when predicting wins/loss.

how many 6-6 teams are getting this level of attention?

TCU has played Nichols, Houston, SMU
Nebraska has played Northern Illinois and Louisiana Tech
CSU has played Middle Tennesee State.

So it's a cool stat that they all havent lost since then until you look at who those teams are and realize it doesnt mean a damn thing.

I suppose pundits should have considered the roster turnover in making their predictions. Shadeur is better than people thought.

How many 6-6 teams have Deion Sanders as their coach.

It's fair to point out who those teams have beaten, but had any of them lost, it obviously works against Colorado. TCU has had a good program prior to this current HC and the NIL Portal era. I suppose if they keep winning, the narrative that "TCU isn't that good"

even if they considered the roster turnover you have no idea what they look like as a complete package so i think its jus ttypical preseason rankings that you throw out the window.

Shadeur is definitely way better than I thought, and I think most everyone though.

a 6-6 team regardless of coach is still just 6-6 though.

I think coverage has to go both ways. if ESPN and Fox or whoever want to make him their ratings whore then they need to give him the same coverage after blowouts. That isnt happening obviously.

I think Deion Sanders is riding the media just as much as the media is riding him, it‘s symbiotic (at least for right now). Money is being made by both sides. CU has definitely been better than I expected including Shedeur but they are still middling team. Next year or two will be more telling IMO, especially if assistants need to be replaced, development of players will be judged and wins will need to increase.

Nebraska finally switched out their quarterback and have won the last two games. Nebraska’s quarterback lost that game more than Colorado won that game.

I think it’s fair to say that Colorado is slightly better than some thought, not most. TCU is probably worse than most thought.

I thought they would win about half their games and I still think they win around half of their games.

I think once USC beats them, it'll all die down on the coverage side of things. I liked him as a player and I like what he's doing now. You had to know this is who he was and that he was going to disrupt this college football applecart that has for so long been dominated by people like Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, Urban Meyer, etc. I do think the collateral damage is going to be white coach cameos that are going to be absolutely awful, especially if it's middle aged guys calling out Lou Holtz and Lee Corso. I don't mind a few coaching battles, especially when it comes to rivalries. They'll be a thing of the past soon enough in terms of the traditional sense, but give me some tension and unease.

As for Deion Sanders coaching his kids, it certainly isn't lost on me that quite a few people in American society today feel as though we have a "fathers" problem? The fact that his sons have followed him to JSU and CU is nothing but a positive thing as far as I'm concerned. He's there, and he might not be doing it the way anyone of us would or the way some people like, but he's there and he's being dad and coach to two young college aged sons. That's awesome.

Sports is very sanitized because of TV today. Rivalries don't really exist more, everything has to be clean and polished for the TV execs. This isn't sanitized, and it's not going to be as long as DS is permitted to keep talking. It absolutely has a Georgetown/UNLV/Miami/Michigan Fab Five feel about it too in terms of who is gravitating to and from DS and his team. He's going to manufacture the disrespect angle whether it is true or not and bring heat on other coaches and other people whether they win or lose. He's a celebrity coach. A black celebrity coach. When other guys try to duplicate this, and they will, it's going to be bad and it's not going to come anywhere near the mark of being authentic. These other guys should be themselves.

If being an insecure guy who dyes his beard is the look Ryan Day was going for, he nailed it. Nothing says going for clicks like Dan Lanning having a camera on his pregame speech that went public.

Good post. I think Deion knows he has to keep the attention on himself for now to motivate his team and get good players. It is a brilliant strategy. But I think as the season wears on, the press will get fatigue and move on to other stories.

Colorado had a big win, but TCU is replacing a lot and will get better as the season goes on. I would like to see a rematch at the end of the season where both teams have had time for younger/new players to get time in the season and maximize potential. I feel it would be a much closer matchup then.

That being said, I think this past weekend shows where Colorado is at in regards to the big boys, and also by extension likely where TCU is at. Though that is now and we still have many weeks of football left to play for both teams. Wish each of them good luck the rest of the season.

Fair to say that CU and TCU were both different versions of what they were last season? In the end, CU got the win.

They were 21 point underdogs going into Oregon for a reason. I don't think anyone had an illusions about what was going to happen. That is an extremely tough place to play on the road and I think it showed. Shadeur got sacked seven or eight times. It's not going to go well for you if that ends up being the case.

I've not read anything that indicated Sanders is or was an absentee father so I'm not sure where your coming from? I'm also not surprised that his sons would follow him to CU either. I think it's great he's coaching his sons. It's a once in a lifetime experience. They'll have some great memories to look back on later in life.

As far as other guys duplicating, they may try, but the media isn't going to jump on it unless they had a playing career and personality on the level of Sanders.

I don't know anyone who thought they would be a juggernaut. CU was a total disaster and won just 1 game last year. He came in with lots of confidence and turned over the roster with lots of 3 and 4 stars and a 5 star. I think beating TCU was remarkable and beating their rivals was great too. I certainly didn't have them beating Oregon or USC. But it has been amazing what he has done. Most analysts I think saw a 3 or 4 win season - which would be a normal rebuild. I think Deion has clearly raised that bar and I would see 6 wins is now the view. Possibly more? They need Travis Hunter healthy though.

The more interesting thing will be his staying power. Can he close on better recruits. He will definitely go back to upgrade the lines in the portal as his son is getting sacked too much.

I enjoy the entertainment value Deion brings. I also think he is much more disciplined than people think. I think some of his assistants are actually better than ours. He is not just bravado - he is a really good coach.

I wonder how he would handle having 10 players on the field for the last few plays of a loss in a premiere game? We need to worry less about Deion and more about Freeman doing basic management with his assistants and in-game management.

Where I'm coming from is that more than one poster has made comments about how he has coached his sons every step of the way so far in his career. So what? I think it is great.

You're 100% correct about who and what DS is. It cuts different.

It’s great for Deion. It won’t be great for Colorado when they graduate. It’s great for his kids currently. If anyone has coached long enough they know those kids that have dad as coach forever are harder to coach.

Some Alumni for CU proposed a $166MM / 10 Year Deal to keep Deion in Boulder. I am sure Coach Prime didn't mind.....

The media and the idiots on social media made way more of this situation than was needed. The only adults in the room look to be the two players involved in the play. Both seem to be great kids.

Colorado's Travis Hunter goes bowling with Henry Blackburn
