1. Congrats to Andrew Hendrix, on his first meaningful time, and playing pretty well. He didn't light the world on fire, but he brought a much needed spark to the offense.

2. Stanford dominated the lines of scrimmage tonight. It wouldn't have mattered WHO was playing QB, the way the war of the trenches went.

3. Hendrix looked good, but as soon as he has a bad game, people will be clamoring for Golson, and questioning why Kelly didn't get Golson more reps.

4. Thanks, jpham, for the chat box. It was kind of fun............ kind of.

5. Michael Floyd and Tyler Eifert will be STARS, in the NFL. As long as they can stay healthy.

6. The field.............meh, what can you say?

Post Game Observations

* Rees is terrible.

* Hendrix wasn't perfect, but he showed a lot of promise tonight. Definitely played better than Rees.

* Wood didn't do much, but he had no holes to run through, either.

* Floyd now holds the single season reception record with 95 grabs.

* Eifert is a stud.

* Offensive line was crap, especially Golic, who was abysmal.

* Loved the effort from the defensive line and the linebackers.

* Secondary actually played very well considering the quarterback they were facing.

* Punt return game needs a serious boost. It's horrific.

* The second half was a lot more encouraging than the first, that's for sure.

It was an ugly game to have only lost 28-14.

Defense was good. Maybe Tommy's injury got the offense out of sync but man they looked awful.

We had a chance......

Lets stay off Tommy...he did an admirable job getting us to this point...and now we hopefully get to be excited in seeing a glimpse of a bright future(whoever the future qb may be, someone who can truly run the spread)

I don't care who the QB is, we are going nowhere without better offensive line play. Against the two quality teams we played, the o-line **** the bed. Kelly has got to get tougher, more athletic guys there.

I hope Kelly gives Hendrix all the snaps going into the bowl and plays him for all 4 quarters. We know what Rees can do. It's time to see what Hendrix can do with full preparation.

Let's hope Kelly signs the secondary guys that he has verbals from. We have a good, young front 7 nucleus, but it will be meaningless if we don't upgrade our secondary as well.

The defense gave the offense every opportunity to score points. The O shat the bed every chance they got.

I do have one question...WTF happened to the oline? Since the Maryland game they have stunk...it all can't be Golic?

The last time Stanford scored that little was on Nov 13 2010 when they won 17-13 @ ASU

1. After a poor first half we showed up with a solid second against a top 5 team.

2. I have seen better fields maintained by grade schools. (note: would not have made a difference in the game)

3. Luck was ok. I could have connected with the wide open wr on 3 of his TD, and the Int he threw was a horrible force that everyone would have killed Rees for if he was the one who threw it.

4. Nice to see Theo Riddick show up in meaningless garbage time. I had such high hopes for him this season. I hope he can prove me wrong, but both him and TJ Jones look like #3 WR at best. I trust Toma more than either of those two.

5. "Monty" really Brent, you are getting old. retire. If you don't know the name of the #1 defender on the team, you are over the hill.

With the shorthanded roster, that team didn't quit. Think about the people that were missing. Tuitt, KLM, Jonas, Cave (possibly the biggest missing piece). How big would it have been to have any 2 of those guys.

Field conditions sucked.
Lynch is a monster
Defense had very good second half.
Can't get over the inability or unwillingness to set up punt returns.
Hendrix was tremendous in relief. Talk about a change of pace. That's the definition of it.
Floyd is truly special and will be greatly missed.

Do Kirk Herbstreet, or whatever and Brent Musberger get paid to do those jobs? Just curious, if they're volunteers than I get it. If they actually draw salaries for all that drivel then where's ABC's head at besides up their *** for keeping this pair on prime time.
Seriously, Manto T'eo? Andrew Nix? If I did my job by showing up and stating the obvious to every body, I'd be out of a job pretty quickly. Musbereger's almost O.K., but that other drip, he's gotta go.

Robby Toma caught that ball!!!

It's amazing how different the offense looks when a QB who can run is in there. When we were in the red zone and it was still 7-0, my friend said "this is when you wish Rees could run the ball" and sure enough he had a clear path to the end zone but was caught from behind by a linebacker.

Now, I have the ultimate respect for Rees, he's an underdog and always will be, but somehow manages to just win. A poor man's Colt McCoy, if you will.

But Hendrix. Damn. I hate benching our starting QB (who's directed us to 8 wins) before the bowl game but Hendrix will be electric when he becomes a more seasoned QB. He can run, break tackles, and has a cannon for a right arm. Those speed options with him and Wood were awesome. He made good decisions on those as well as most of his passes. The difference in my confidence in the offense between when Hendrix was the QB and when Rees was the QB was incredible.

I hate to say it, but I think Tommy's run as starter is done. He did way more than any of us expected him to do, and we can credit him for helping the turn around of ND football, dating back to his first win vs. #14 Utah last year. He made some mistakes this year, but he still won a few games.

Hendrix is gonna be sick, and I am even MORE excited to see Golson, hopefully next year, and hoping they get to split time (a guy can dream can't he?)

Riddick looked WAY more comfortable out of the back field, and it looked to me they found a replacement for Jonas next year...

Defensive line is going to be SICK after a long off season of getting bigger and meaner.

I never thought I would be so happy to lose 4 secondary players to graduation in the same year, but good riddance! For the first time in college football history, true freshmen will be better than the seniors they are replacing...

Lack of discipline once again, way too many penalties. You won't win ballgames with 10 flags a game...

O line needs to figure it out, and QUICK. They were false starting on silent counts. Watch the ball!!!!!!!

A couple weeks to prepare for the bowl will do wonders for this team, and especially Hendrix.

It was here and gone in a flash, and I can't believe another season is in the books already :(

Here's to the future fellas! :clover:

It's terrifying that Motta will be a starter next year. I don't think I can recall a game where he wasn't abysmal in coverage.

I don't agree with No.2. Did you notice Stanford didn't have the same slipping problems? They're used to that ****hole of a field. We slipped on critical plays, T.J. for the first down, we had to punt. Harrison missed a tackle because he couldn't get turned. A slip in the secondary for a big yardage pass play. We don't play on that garbage, they're adjusted to it. The field was a difference maker I think. NCAA should get them to fix the field or start to fine them.

No.5-So true about old Brent. He did the same thing last year with Manti's name. He's getting a bit old, but what excuse does that partner of his have? Opposite end of the age spectrum maybe, the total tonnage of what he doesn't know would fill the universe.

Hendrix has some fantastic zip on the ball. I loved when the ball hit the linebacker and he was pretty much doubled over in pain.

Pretty much agree

...I'm so disappointed in the O-line...it wasn't just the unblocked folks killing our QBs, it was the one punch at the snap and done...they didn't block for **** even when they got their assignments right...this was a completee and total hang your head stinker from them...jumping off sides multiple times...fanning on assignments...you'd think these guys were freshman. Hell I'm not as worried about Hendrix's grasp of the offense as I was...I'm worried our offensive line folks have all gotten hit in the head too many times...WTF was that performance?

We still don't know how to seize momentum...even when Hendrix was in, and moving we found a way to do ourselves...Eifert drops a ball, then the o-line wilts...ANNNND another dead drive. When will we execute when the game is meaningful, AND at a time in the game that is meaningfull/critical? Waiting for someone to be bigger than the big games...wonder who that will be...wonder if he's even on the team yet...

In high school and college sacks count against rushing yards. In the NFL it counts against passing yards.

This isnt me trying to be a downer at all but does anyone else agree that this makes the bowl game all the more important than it already was? On a side note while i think watching part of this game may have made my fiance a little more interested in the irish than she was should I write watching games with her off as bad luck and not do that in the future? lol
