Wish they would have reversed the Kizer TD at the end. Then we could have ran some more time off the clock.

I understand that, but expecting your defense to stand tall for 30 seconds isn't too much to ask.

ND had 299 yds rushing (8.5 per carry!), and 533 yards of offense. Throw in a KR TD, and it SHOULD be more then enough to win if the defense is any good. When is the last time we had almost 300yds rushing and still lost!?

Said it in the other thread but fuck, we've gotten way too good at losing our biggest games in heart wrenching fashion. The school of the comeback kid has become the school of the most elite losses.

Was a fun season and a great team to root for.

Many of the same issues crept up in this game:

- Red zone issues on both sides of the ball
- Costly turnover
- Poor tackling and big plays conceded by the D

That being said, the team fought the whole way and almost pulled it out. Was actually hoping they overturned Kizer's TD to get a few more seconds off the clock. On to the bowl game...

Me too. Not sure what the replay officials were looking at. I think Kizer was short of the goal line.

Great game to end a great regular season. Sucks we lost, but up until .25 on the clock, I was almost sure we won. This team never gave up. If we get some defensive departure holes plugged and find some answers in our secondary, next year could be even better. I think ESB is going to be a home run threat next season opposite Fuller and it will be nice to have a full stable of backs all with lots of experience. QB is an embarrassment of riches. Kelley should get some coach of the year consideration .... Managing all those key injuries to a 10-win season was pretty impressive.

1. Go figure. We get screwed on calls all game. Holds not called. Bogus PI against us. Awful spotting of the ball. False starts by Stanford not called. And yet it is the one call that we got all game--when Kizer was clearly down before the endzone--that cost us. I would have taken 4 plays to get in the endzone from the 1 yard line than trying to stop Stanford with 30 seconds left from scoring a fg when they have all 3 timeouts. Unconventional and a coach would never do it (nor would I), but Kelly should have declined the touchdown and accepted the offside penalty on Stanford making it first and goal.

2. Go figure...pretty much the only time we get pressure on Hogan all game on a pass play, we narrowly miss a sack, then miss a forced fumble, only to have Rochell make a stupid facemask play. He actually tugged it too when upsets me the most. If it was incidental contact with the facemask in trying to tackle or swat the ball i'd understand. Once that play happened the rest of the game was academic.

3. Go figure...our offense moved the ball at ease down the field all game long and then we have back to back 3-and-outs right when our defense shows up for the first time all game in the early 4th quarter. That is so Notre Dame and why it is has been so unbelievably frustrating watching this team.

4. Again Brian Kelly chases the points in the 3rd quarter. He's the worst ever with 2-point decisions. It's not just about a chart but also needs to be about how much time is left in the game. This entire season our 2-point conversions have been a disaster. And throw in the fact that the only reason this game wasn't a de facto quarterfinal is because of TCU missing a 2-point conversion last game and Stanford missing theirs against Oregon.

5. We need a pass rush from our front 4. And when we sent in linebackers we still couldn't get to the quarterback. Forget a sack...all i wanted was a qb hurry.

6. We needed to force 1 turnover this game. 1 interception...1 fumble recovery and we couldn't do it and yet this Stanford team had dozens of turnovers against Oregon a couple of weeks ago.

7. I still don't understand why Kizer didn't roll out and throw the ball away to end the first half. Those 3 points there were huge. Otherwise he played a really good game. And for a guy who probably didn't think he'd see a snap this year back in April, it was a really good effort in a big spot. But still, that play was huge.

8. We didn't look crisp today for a team playing for a chance at the playoffs. Fuller with a big third down drop. Butler with a horrible missed open field tackle. Dumb penalties on Tillery and Rochell. Kizer not knowing the game clock situation to end the first half.

9. I've seen this script before and I had hoped ND was past this. How many times has Michigan beaten us in the past 10 years on the last drive of the game when we took a lead late in the game? If we wanted good offense, undisciplined play, and a defense that can never make a play or get a big stop then why isn't Charlie Weis still the coach? I thought we were past this.

10. It's not just about injuries either. There have been many opportunities for us to play the injury card this year. Today's game was not the case. Our linebackers are slow and our safeties are often out of position and cant tackle, our defense backs never made a big play, and our defensive line can't get to the quarterback. That said, i think KVR being able to go 1-on-1 all year with his receivers (even though he does get beat sometimes) has helped mask how poor our safeties are in coverage.

11. I'm going to be so interested to see how Nyles Morgan does next year.

12. I will puke if Florida beats Alabama next Saturday.

This all said, before the season I hoped for 12-0, expected 11-1, and could have lived with 10-2, with anything else being a disaster and me calling for Kelly's head. So i'm not going to complain and a New Years Six bowl win against a good team gets us finishing in the Top 10.

I hope we get the Iowa-Mich State loser or a Big 12 team like Oklahoma State. I don't want any part of Ohio State nor do I want any part of TCU if their guys are healthy.

I think Jaylon needs to watch Manti's 2011 tape and compare it to his 2012 tape.

I think we all know Jaylon has the talent to dominate. I think he needs to come back next year and actually do it.

It was actually :25 after the kick I think. What we allowed Stanford to do is really hard.

Wow, can't hold for 25 seconds.. what ya gonna do

Kizer, Adams, and Yoon among others have been unexpected heros. Adams has more rushing yardage than Folston had last year as the team leader, and he was what...4th string in the spring?

BK was lucky and got vindicated on this call.

When it happened, I thought for sure it as going to cost us the game.

Our skill positions on O will be overflowing next year, I'm really worried about what our d will look like

My heart hurts but team 127 really showed the nation that ND is a top,of the line program again.

Agree. We will be like Baylor next year. Unstoppable on offense and crap on defense.

A great coach changes the d coordinator.

A good coach sticks with his friend and hopes things improve.

We will see what Kelly is. I think he is smart enough to know that the defense really under-performed considering the level of talent.

I love Todd Lyght, but I think something needs to be done in terms of coaching the secondary as well.

Wanted:

Cornerbacks that break on the ball and are athletic.... Will pay big $$$$$$

Also:

Defensive coordinator that knows the college game and puts his players in best position to win and adapts to his talent instead of trying to make the talent adapt to him

Yes...we could have easily won this game. Made way too many mistakes on defense and a number on offense as well.

Yes...we could have been been undefeated. Made way too many mistakes on defense and a number on offense as well.

I know you all are hurting and angry.

I agree with kmoose, at the start of the season pretty much any of you would have been happy at 10-2 but now that we achieved it with the injuries we have had as well as defections, and by a total of 4 points, you guys are cheering that some of these guys are leaving and calling for the firing of at least a couple of coaches.

I am not exactly Sister Mary Sunshine and I know and am upset by a number of things from this season, but I have lived through a help of a lot worse.

Thank you boys for a great year and I look forward to a New Year's Day bowl considering we only lost to single digit ranked teams on the road.

So let's fire the first year position coach and second year coordinator? Yeah, that sounds about right................. if you're the Cleveland Browns!

Need work on the red zone offense.

Need work on pass defense.

Everything else was pretty good, stay the course and don't deviate.

Ole Miss already bought these players up.

We played our two toughest opponents on the road and lost by a combined 4 points. That really hurts.
