Why does Hiestand get so much blame (by name) for the poor OL performance whereas no one mentions the WR coach for the inconsistencies?

-O-line needs to improve. Run blocking was garbage.

- Cody Riggs plays physical, sometimes it goes our way, sometimes not.

EG was a bit off tonight with his throws. I didn't like that our QB was, or seemed to be, the leading rusher. Still too many time clock management problems.

-LB play was decent

On Amir, all are listed as "sprain" until the MRI. Need to see what happens when they get back and can get a good look at it. Need him healthy, feel for the kid.

Thought we'd win by 20. Injuries are tough. Hoping at least 2-3 guys are cleared this week. Russell and Ishaq would be big.

Did you hear who had the high ankle sprain? Kelly mentioned it but I didn't hear the name.

It's Lombard.

Anybody else that would like to see more running plays designed to go downhill..pistol sets...I formations, etc. Our O-line doesn't run block effectively enough for the read option handoffs (which they almost always are) to develop...there just aren't holes. I'd prefer to see our backs line up behind Golson rather than beside him and at least be rolling downhill with the possibility of seeing a small crease and exploding through it. Right now I feel like they get the ball with defenders in their face, and for the most part are doing a decent job of picking their way through defenders, but there is little room for acceleration or exploding into the 2nd level.

Can the angry injury god please vacate the premises?

Not as crisp as the Michigan game and a lot of opportunities left on the field. WRs need to start catching some of that stuff.

OL looked atrocious. Agree w/ earlier comment on Elmer...he may be better suited at guard.

IMO, Hudson out-schemed Kelly. If not for Everett Golson's play, there would be no offense to speak of. How many sacks did he take...4? Kelly seems averse to running between the tackles. After the first series, the stretch play was negated by PU. When you see a white kid on D run down Folston from behind for no gain you may want to reconsider that play call.

BVG seemed to go w/ four man rush most the night. Etling had all day to throw and we made him look like Bob Griese. Can't argue w/ the results in the 2nd half but Purdue's offensive play calling had ND on their heels in the first half.

I'm coming to the conclusion that Collinsworth & Carlisle are never going to stay healthy. It's too bad, they're both needed.

Did we set the record w/ most penalties committed by WR?

I hate watching the true frosh at OU & Tennessee (among other RBs) piling up the yardage while Bryant & Folston are misused or underutilized. I'll be surprised if one of them doesn't transfer.

I'm not assuming a win over Syracuse, but I don't think we'll know where this ND team stands until Stanford comes to town. Rice may have won the CUSA last year, but they're horrible. I'm starting to think scUM will be lucky to finish w/ 8 wins & Purdue just played the game of their life (remind me to bet against them next week...they may be favored over an FCS school but they won't cover...they're a joke).

As far as the five suspended kids? They gone...it's a pipedream to think they're coming back. It is ND we're talking about. If ND is going to be hamstrung w/ academic suspensions and injuries like this, it's the equivalent of schollie reductions for a team on NCAA probation (granted w/o the disgrace that comes with it).

Pretty much spot on...

Such a huge difference in the offense with the loss of Amir Carlisle.

OLine I thought had a very rough nite.

Big props to the defense adjusting and playing a solid 2nd half.

Man you need to go rewatch the last 20+ years of ND football. I watched this whole game knowing that ND was gonna win. In the world of college football I'll take this type of game all day everyday against a FBS opponent.

We are still a long ways away from being an elite team. You can't take us lightly but an elite team would crush us. Still 3-0 is better than 2-1

We won. That is the most important observation. It wasn't always pretty but given the amount of injuries and the 5 mysteriously missing players winning by over 2 TDs is pretty damn good. I was initially upset by the bye week next week. Like others I wanted it after Syracuse. Man I'll tell you what...that bye week is going to be needed. We have shown glimpses of our potential. I hope we use that bye week to reorganize and start dominating.

I completely agree with you. Would love to see any of these guys (particularly Bryant) running down hill between the tackles more often. It just seems like these read option runs just aren't hitting and they are such timing things that if it's not right, it throws the whole play out of whack. There is just a lot of bad that needs to get cleaned up during the bye week as it relates to getting this running game on track.

Another observation- We saw the result of trying to have WR's weighing "a buck 70" soaking wet trying to ineffectively block DB's on these WR screens. Those plays just don't work more times than not and I would love to see them eliminated from the play sheet.
