This years team has shades of the 2009 team. The Offense could throw up some points but the defense was like a sieve. Crappy tackling, gaps in the middle and lack of getting to the qb on blitzes reminds me of Tenuta's blitzkrieg defense.

This game is squarely on Kelly.
1. He runs a jet sweep with a wideout who fumbles the ball at the goal line. Use your RB inside the five.
2. TF is running well. He put a cold McDaniel in the game who proceeds to fumble.
3. He goes for two? What the heck was that about? Kick the ball and you still win.

Gotta love Coach Fitz though. So much respect for him as a player, he brings that out of his teams. He does a lot with a little.

This. Plus I'll add:

Mathematically didn't make any sense to go for 2. None. The kicker excuse was a cop out. Take some responsibility coach.

I'm over Chris Brown. He just doesn't seem to get separation often and doesn't win against the defender.

We just go trucked over on the one TD. Schmidt wouldn't have let that happen.

I was at the game. The stadium was full and actually pretty loud at times. The students just got in late. Every NW person in our section left except one thinking it was over. Even he was in disbelief with the play calls down the stretch.

Koon, we got on to campus late so I didn't get ahold of ya. Hope you guys showed everything but the final score.

Really?

You don't feel like any of them have improved, or like any of them have improved to the point of being a stud? Because there aren't all that many freshman studs in College Football. There are a few each year, but as a percentage of all of the studs in Collge Football, the freshmen are a serious minority.

For the most part the freshmen played their best against Michigan or Purdue. Ever since then they've been exposed. Tranquill, Trumbetti, those guys. They'll probably get better while they get older over the offseasons but it's disappointing that they aren't playing up to the flashes they've shown.

The absolutely frustrating thing that we just can't get away from....sucky teams are always up for ND. NW put up 9 pts and were held to -9 rushing yards at lowly Michigan last week. Come to ND, and they play out of their minds. It happens over and over. Extremely frustrating.

BK called a selfish game tonight and needs to look himself in the mirror, man up and take the blame.

no more excuses you've been here too long buddy.

not sure what we can salvage out of the rest of the season.

i'm thinking maybe 1 more win this season, which is un-fortunate.

hope things get better, but crystal ball isn't showing it.

- I'm sure BK will look in the mirror, he wasn't/isn't pefect but not the reason we loss. Next time I hear a call for Kelly's head I'm busting out the Judo chops.

- The rest of the season is two games, odd enough as it sounds if we lose will be at home...Louisville. This teams NEEDS to get out of South Bend.

- one more win, possibly. Three more wins are possible too with a bowl.

- The crystal balll...I'll take ND for sure, you take who you want.

I dont buy this BS excuse. Dont you think every lowly team has USC, Texas, Alabama, LSU, FSU, ect all circled on their schedules? It isn't a matter of teams playing up, it's us playing down.

I really hope you don't believe that. Bad teams are able to hang with ND because they constantly beat themselves and keep those teams in games. NW gave up 40 and had 4 turnovers so it's not like they played great.

I just finished watching the game on DVR and let me say it hurt to be away from IE for 12 hours. But this loss hurts even more than that. Some people have probably already said this stuff but I haven't read this thread yet. Anyway, here's my drunken observations....

1-Run the ball. Running the ball has so many benefits. When the game started and we got opening kickoff I thought for sure we'd try to establish our dominance by running the ball. 1st and 10, 2nd and 10, 3rd and 10, first down. Come on BK, this is NW. Plus running the ball will burn some clock. It's like every drive we have is a two minute drill. Why do we need to score fast all the time? Running the ball will take some pressure off of our young defense. Which leads me to point number 2.

2- Too many underclassmen. If you're not Jaylon Smith you shouldn't be starting as a freshman at Notre Dame. It seems like all we have out there is freshman and sophomores. I was excited when we recruited Morgan, Tranquil, Trumbetti, etc. And don't get me wrong, I'm excited about their futures at ND. But those guys should be playing sparingly, learning the college game under upperclassmen. Tons of talent, tons of mistakes due to inexperience.

3- Turnovers. Everybody knows turnovers kill. We had two inside the ten today. It's not an isolated incident.

4- I love BK and EG but they both drive me to drink.

5- Will Fuller and Tarean Folston are awesome. Fuller drops a ball every now and then and Folston isn't a great blocker. But these guys are awesome and they're sophomores. I'm very, very happy to have them for two more years.

6- Our special teams suck. Nuff said.

When we started this season I remember a majority of guys on here predicting 3 or 4 losses. That's where we're at. We got over-excited early but we're a good young young team that's 7-3 and the future is bright. We never should've lost today but we did. We still have a couple big games that I think we will win plus a bowl game. Don't hang your heads, We Are ND!

PS. I'm broke bitch! I'm taking Vbux donations.

Our defense is like the bad news bears. Third down conversions is what they lived on.

We suck....and the turnovers result in the perfect storm.

We lost to NW.

Good luck with Louisville and USC.

I can see 7-5 and a bowl loss, at this rate...if we get invited to a bowl that is.

I posted this one year ago this week. It's still applicable.

1. Conditioning, strength, and raw physical toughness need improvement.

2. Tackling and bad angles are a constant problem.

3. Players make mistakes, but when they make the same ones over & over, they aren't being taught and corrected.

4. Everybody does it sometimes, but ND is consistently playing up or down to their opponent's level instead of playing to their own level.

5. Defensive schemes and offensive play calling is too predictable, vanilla, and simple.

6. Too few players showing improvement, mastering the fundamentals, knowing their assignments correctly, being properly motivated, or being in top condition.

All of this indicates to me a problem with coaching. I think Kelly is a good to very good coach with the potential to be a very good to elite HC, but 99% of the problems I've seen and read you guys complaining about seem to fall on the position coaches and coordinators just not doing a particularly good job.

ND has talent and the ND brand makes recruiting top talent relatively easy, but the assistants have to develop those players, do a better job of teaching them, correcting their mistakes, and get more out of them than they've been doing. It may be time for Kelly to do a major overhaul of his staff.

Do your really? 7 - 5 means we lose out.

Yeah, I could see us losing out, that is how bad we look.

And the coaching has been HORRENDOUS for most of the last month.

Honestly, if we do lose out, I do NOT want to see ND in a bowl game.

Not like ND would get a good bowl game anyway at 8-4. We played in the effing PINSTRIPE BOWL last year with a better record.

We look so bad we may not even get invited to that sh!tty bowl.

After a good night's sleep, I'm over Brian Kelly and his arrogance. This week's game will be telling.

This is the second worst lost in Kelly's tenure, Tulsa being the worst.

These were the last two games I attended. Add to that Navy in 07' and PITT in 08' and I may never make the 10 hour trip again. I feel like I have PTSD every time I leave ND.

I'll say the same thing I said last week. Run the football and get out of the spread on every play. Even good spread teams know when to man up with two TEs and run the ball. We should have pounded on NW and broke their will today. With our defensive issues, BK should be controlling the clock and trying to keep his offense on the field, not run gimmicky plays to show everyone how smart he is.

the way BK has been acting after losses is the reason SCUM didn't hire him back when Carr retired.

Such a disappointing loss. I'm very guilty, as others probably are, of letting early season success raise my expectations of this team. Turns out the the Michigan and Stanford wins were against pretty mediocre teams I guess,

The defense was going to be our weakness, remember? I was hopeful that as the season developed the younger players would too. The suspensions and injuries have really taken a toll. Having young, talented, but raw freshmen is no replacement for experience. Maybe the scheme is part of the problem with such young players, I don't know, but all of this together is going to make the next two games very difficult.

The offense, this is the real head scratcher for me. I thought this was the strength of the team. Still is I guess but our miscues each game are leaving a lot of points on the field, points we need to win games against better teams.

I've never been a big fan of the spread offense, maybe because I just don't get it. What I do get is that teams that compete for and win big games and championships seem to have the innate ability to run the football when it matters. With a QB that is struggling I wish we could take some of the pressure and reliance on his athleticism away and force teams to beat us physically. I love Golson but this isn't working very well right now. I'm not saying it's just him by any means but the offensive effort is inconsistent and seems disjointed. This unit may be the bigger disappointment to me because they have cost us wins and they were suppose to be the leaders of this season.

Speaking of leaders, I just don't see anyone filling this role, do you guys? Kelly speaks of Golson's leadership but I've got to be honest, I don't think someone with all of these mistakes can really lead the team.

I don't want to be too critical, I'm no coach and certainly have never walked in the Notre Dame's staff shoes.

What really sucks about this is all of the naysayers will be coming with the overrated, weak schedule crap for the next year. Heck, maybe they are right.

Add to this the next few months will be filled with the impending QB controversy, transfer rumors, recruiting wars and finally the "wait til next year" crap.

I can say this, I still hate Michigan and USC, and I want another shot at Northwestern.

Northwestern was on a four game losing streak coming into this game. Just saying.

silence can be perceived as not caring, therefore misquoted so just go ahead and drop that in the recycle bin.

But most times opening your mouth in anger makes you look bad. Thanks for you input.
