CAM is like the most dependable person on the entire team. SMH.

To your credit, you are absolutely right in advocating him as such. Yet, I don't think it's so much a criticism of him as it is a desire (albeit maybe selfish and slightly unattainable) to see a little more flash back there.

Cam's cool head is exactly why he's where he is --- to cool down a frustrated Amir who wants to run regardless of whether it's a good percentage choice or not. AND that requires him to be forceful about it sometimes --- like facing him and yelling at him to play team ball.

Sometimes one wonders if the designs of great coaches on how to play the game make any difference to fans at all, or if stats/facts like BGIF and Whiskey bring out do. Thank God for BGIF and Whiskey on this board.

Pretty disrespectful.

I agree with you OMM. Cam is captain for a reason. Also the designs of the coaches dont always show on the stat lines and hot takes. This is why I get uppity when everyone screams for GB to play more. He would, if he did what the coaches expect him to. Its truly simple.

I don't scream for GB to play more just for the sake of playing more. If I ever say anything about his playing time it is out of frustration that he can't seem to put it together because on paper he is our most talented back. However I think with the way Folston has been playing he may end up being our feature back the rest of the way. He may not be as "talented" as GB but he has such a better feel for following blocks and anticipating running lanes.

GB is young still and by this time next season we may have a legit 2 headed monster in the backfield.

The point was related to kickoff returns. I think Cam has certainly earned his carries and played very well. He is a good blocker on returns (though i don't like when he has to tell Amir whether to return or not). There is a reason that FSU was kicking far over to Cam's side rather than Amir every time. And there is a reason that Kelly then had them switch places at the last second before 2nd half kickoffs after they were all going to Cam.

I like cam a lot and think he is a really good football player for ND in all phases of the game. Being the return man on kickoffs is not his strongest position though. IMO, he is better as the lead blocker. I have to clarify because everyone seems overly sensitive to any cam criticism. You know what you are going to get with Cam and it is pretty good.

I didn't pay particular attention. Did the kicks start going to Amir, after the switch? Because I highly doubt that FSU coaches didn't notice that the returners had switched sides. So, if they were still kicking it to the same side, then I would say that the reason that they were kicking to that side had more to do with their strengths, than to do with our weakness.

I here you and I dont mean to come off like that but for the last two years its the same thing. Why is Cam doing this, why is Cam doing that. Why isnt GB and TF getting more touches... so thats been going on a while and its tiresome. As far as the kickoffs versus FSU, the best kicker in the country was dropping dimes right on Cam on purpose. That is why he was getting the kickoffs. Not because the coach wanted him to.

They would switch around when the kicker put his hand up to give the ready signal. It seemed that ND was trying to get it to go to Amir rather than Cam as they did it late.

This isn't the thread for this thought but I'd like to get my point out. These past few weeks I've been listening to almost every talk show (TV and radio) on college football and the Irish and it is remarkable how many charlatans are out there with almost no idea of what the hell they speak of. I really wish there was a national show on during the season for 1or2 hours a day with an Irish theme. This really should be done by the university. Get someone who likes Notre Dame and wants to do it and open up a vine for the subway/ alumni to voice their thoughts. I've said this many times over Notre Dame is bigger than ANY conference so why doesn't it have a show like this.

I like this. I used to religiously watch the post game show on und.com. But I'm not sure they even broadcast it anymore, now that Mirko is gone. There used to be a couple of guys that did a youtube show, and even had a website, called SubwayAlumni.com. They used to do a rather Bob and Doug McKenzie-ish weekly show on Notre Dame sports. Mostly football and basketball. But it was more of a tongue-in-cheek poke at serious sports shows with some pretty good analysis thrown in, than a serious sports show with a little humor tossed in.

We have plenty of those. They are called podcasts.

As for a daily national show on the radio dedicated to ND sports, sorry, but "LOL". How could they get enough listeners to allow for such a daily show? There are tons of ND fans out there, but not nearly enough to be able to listen to a show every day (meaning they would listen while working and doing other mundane things). Just impossible to do it on a national stage, because it would be a financial disaster.

I think it could work, but the show would really need the right personality(ties). A great host or hosts, good guests, a national fan base, you could have something. It may have to start local or regional in a very string ND area (e.g. greater Chicago) then build out to national reach. But the success would really have to depend on the host(s) IMO.

He's probably getting all kinds of asshole ND fans tweeting at him and calling him an idiot for calling that penalty wrong on Saturday night. I feel like I would not be on Twitter if I were one of these guys. I'm not good at taking sh!t and suffering fools.

Meh! Who knows what kind of hate mail he has been getting, this week? He's called out other fanbases, including Ohio State's, before.... so I don't really see it as a big deal.

Yeah i know... but i still wish he would get hit by a flying tomato...

I agree to disagree with Herbie apologists on here. What's the point of having officials if they do not call a fair game? What is the point of analyzing or calling a game if you are not going to point out all the facts? Then when a fan base is irritated by said horse shit calls or lack of calls, then let's call them out for being upset after the biggest game of the year. So again, I agree to disagree.

It's not being an "apologist", to speculate that maybe the guy has had some really disturbing hate mail, this week. I mean, what would you think if you got a pic of your shirtless son on the school playground in an email from koon, saying that your son lacked abs but he was going to help him fix that? I think you'd probably freak out a little bit, and maybe tweet something reactionary, as well?

It's been conclusively established that the refs blew the call. The circumstances and timing of the call make it historically bad, but such things happen. Herbie's commentary on ABC went a long way toward establishing the narrative-- since picked up and uncritically parroted by every national sports writer-- that it was "clearly correct." But given the camera angle ABC was using, I'm prepared to grant Herbie the benefit of the doubt and assume he was being genuine (though I'd bet money he's not familiar with the actual text of the OPI rule).

What makes me angry is that lots of people, Herbie included, are portraying ND fans as irrational butt-hurt whiners over this. We were robbed of a win in the biggest game of the year by an objectively bad call; even the ACC admitted they blew it. If you'd like to comment on that, do some f*cking research and make an argument why FSU's blown coverage doesn't matter, why it was OK for Pat Ryan to flag OPI on ND but not DPI on FSU, why it was right to miss PJ Williams blatantly removing his helmet after the play, etc.

But if you're not prepared to do that, don't f*cking opine on the call. And don't taunt us--especially you, Herbie, since you played a big role in creating this bullsh!t narrative--for being upset that the Irish were robbed of the season's best win by a sh!tty call.
