Call me a pessimist but I'd be surprised if both Zaire and Kizer are on our roster in 2017. (I think both will be in 2016. But one will establish himself, the other will move along, and Wimbush will be the #2.

In other notes:
Holmes did redshirt last year, Kelly said yesterday.
I think I saw it reported that he said Hounshell is not an option for us (not sure why) but hopes to grad transfer.
True we don't lose a lot after 2016. Except our two best d linemen and every returning D Back with experience.

I think people just assume someone is going to transfer at QB without really thinking about Kizer's makeup. This is a kid that was thinking about quitting football and playing baseball at Notre Dame. If history is any indication, regardless of who starts the first game, we will play more than one QB next year. I mean... Has BK had a full season starter at QB ever?

If Malik gets the nod, I am confident Kizer is smart enough to know that he is a 1B.

Oh... and if Watkins, Coleman or Crawford doesn't beat out Butler... Then all of humanity is lost.

Really curious what the staff does with Brent.

He should be moved to WR or Safety. He's to good an athlete to be buried at RB. If we get D-Rob I want him at safety personally.

No, I know. And I don't think he'd make a rash decision, or one that lacks confidence a la Golson. Both Kizer and Zaire seem built for the long haul.
But whoever comes in second will have Wimbush nipping at the heels. And once you've had a taste of QB1...

Even if we don't get D-Rob. If Brent can hit, safety feels like the best use of his talents in 2016.

.

I think I agree now. The grad transfer rule makes it easy to leave. The question is if DK will graduate by next summer. If so, he could get 2 years somewhere else... IF he's the one that leaves.

I want Brent at WR opposite ESB --- simple gut feeling.

.... haven't seen a quicker "twitch/gone separation" early in routes [in the practice videos] in my experience.

Get out of the Doghouse, Justin!!

... as to the QBs: if one transfers, so be it. We'll still have a top-ten QB starting and another one "warming up", and [most probably] a competent place keeper [Book] as a third. I don't WANT a transfer, but with all three guys reasonably thinking NFL in the future, who'd blame them?

... almost all that is irrelevant to the thrival of Notre Dame football over the next two/three years. Offense will roll. Special Teams will be good. DLine will be good. That leaves the obvious --- who will play solid DBackfield, and who will have the instincts and the hitting power at linebacker? Thank the Lord for Cole Luke this year, the one superlative anchor we have for that back seven.

Who moves in for Elmer?

I think a lot depends on Hoge's development. If he can beat out or at least be the equal of Mustipher, then I think Mustipher moves to guard and Bars gets kicked out to one of the tackle positions. If Mustipher is the center, we could see Bars replace Elmer and McGovern, Bivin and others battle for the open tackle position. Either I love the way we've recruited the O-line because losing a guy like Elmer a few years ago would've been devastating. Today, it hurts but I wouldn't be surprised if the next man is a significant upgrade athletically from Elmer.

Here's what's for sure... Q Nelson will be at LG. That is all for now.

Of all of the possible errors they could have made, THIS is the one?
