You haven't corrected anyone, you sit here and spew your tea party puppet crap. Don't be mad because I'm more productive in my off time than you. I don't have to sit here and think out what I'm gonna say in hopes that someone will like me, unlike you, I make my own opinions. Go out in the street and play with pat.

You'd think a guy with a real job could after 7 years scrape up a few bucks and support the site by joining the varsity club?

Bull. Many of us have corrected you and your false claims on taxes, redistribution, obamacare, etc. over and over again. If you call basic economics tea party puppet crap, I have no problem standing by that.

I'm not mad at all and could care less what you do with your off time, but don't say I have too much free time when you have 6000 posts in two years. You saying I don't have a real job is an absolute BASELESS claim, you have no damn clue what I do for a living all day, and frankly you can go pound sand.

Aside from that, you should be more concerned about the people all over the country who are doing NOTHING all day, sitting on their porches, drinking, doing drugs, and having more children they can't afford with the assumption that the government (aka taxpayers) will subsidize everything they "need." I have a darn good full time job and I'm a contributor. GFY.

Everything you say, I've heard outta the White House or MSNBC. You, much like the rest of the left, don't have opinions. You're sheep. You've been told that "the man is holding you down" or that "greedy rich guys are the devil"....."We can save you from yourselves!!! Vote for us!!"

At least, the Tea Party is something fresh amid the standard two party joke. Like them or not.

(For the record, I've tried joining the "varsity club" and I can't...is there something wrong with it? It just takes me too a blank screen with the schedule and recruits)

I live what I say Pat, it's not just some opinion.

I earn money, I save some, invest some and I give back.

Giving back is the most rewarding and what my wife and I look forward to the most.

The post office is an outdated business that was once a marvel. It can be good again if we get congress out of the equation and let it run like a business, not a govt. agency.

BobD - I just wanted to remind you of your inconsistency that you still haven't addressed.

Per you - you say that the post office needs to be run more ("like a business - not a govt agency") to be good again and yet you support Obamacare which does just the opposite.

Seriously? I'd suggest you settle this conversation between yourself and yourself before you continue going around speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

I understand that you prey on trying to persuade ignorant and less informed people with your bullying and feeble attempts to mock "tea party" folks. The fact of the matter is that many (Pat and Lep) on here expose your talking points for what they are. And once your "argument" is dissected you lose...and you can't have that so you try to discredit the people instead of their argument. The irony is deafening.

This has just become a little right-wing echo chamber. That's fine. But it doesn't mean that there aren't reasonable dissenting opinions.

Many of you are like my chihuahua. He sits by the patio window barking at dogs and people who walk by. When they leave, he's convinced he won the fight.

I'd suggest you learn that the postal service and healthcare are completely different subjects. What do they have to do with each other? You should continue this conversation with yourself.

So do we. We are involved heavily in the "Pets for Vets" Chapter down here in Houston.

So how does that make your position anymore "noble"? And as a man of the people, that you are, how can you possibly support government in it's decisions with our money? That's not charity.

^So tolerant. And nobody said there wasn't reasonable opinions. Hell, without dissenting opinions, this would be no fun.

I'm not sure if you're being duplicitous or if you are being sincere. If the latter, my apologies; I suggest you ask the people that need to take care of you give you your required medication and to remove the keyboard from your possession.

And Pat thinks I'm not tolerant.

I'll go ahead and back away slowly from the thread again.

Therefore the solution must be the same for both?

Bob. We've asked you before what the government runs better than the private sector and you haven't delivered an answer.

We're still waiting....tic tok...have you come up with one yet?

So most of us should have our health insurance increases in hand by now. Mine was up 12% and is about the same price for the worst/cheapest Obamacare option. $750/month for a family of five. If we could have dropped our maternity rider without losing grandfathered status we would have saved about $200/month.

Curious what others are seeing.

Well, if you had a plan that doesn't meet the ACA standards then you just got dropped.

Obama lied about this in pitching the bill to the American public. Well, technically speaking he didn't "lie" because he didn't want to know about it in the first place. So I guess he was just wrong.

Sort of like the healthcare.gov website. And the IRS scandal. And Benghazi. And Fast and Furious.

Depends on which government. It seems like many countries do a much better job overall of providing healthcare using either a completely socialized model (Cuba) or a public private partnership (France). Here's a couple of US specific examples of things government does well: space exploration, habitat restoration, law enforcement, natural resources management and global armed conflict. The State run Universities in California are far and away some of the best in the world and taken as a whole are the best institution of higher education in the world in my opinion. The East Bay Municipal Utility District does a way better job of delivering service than PG&E as well. So there you go.

My plan design wasn't so far off so incorporating the ACA BS wasn't overly expensive, thus "only" a 12% increase. Plus they put a lot of the provisions in last year so the cost was spread over two years. We had to qualify for these rates three years ago, we are/were healthy so we qualified for good rates for a fairly comprehensive plan. If I had taken a plan at about half the cost, I suspect the ACA requirements would have led to an increase more along the lines of the horror stories we all hear.

I'm interested in hearing first hand comparisons for what people had and paid versus what their options are now.

If I could have another chance at it, I would have dropped the maternity rider and upped my deductible before losing grandfathered status.

...but the rest of that country is trapped in the 1950's...It's a dumphole that is overrun by the poor. I've been there.

But hey! They have a government provided health system!

Says who!??! Where are we getting this info about the state run CA schools? I'm curious. And please don't bother wih the NYT or Huffpost.

Dump hole overrun by the poor? I'm surprised you would say such a thing about Texas. Oh wait you were talking about Cuba, the place that we have sanctioned for no other reason than they kicked the mob out of the country in the 50's and gave us the middle finger.

Anyhow, here's a link for public institution rankings. The UC system is way up there.

Top Public Schools | Rankings | Top National Universities | US News

Here is a world wide ranking. Again, The Cal UC system shines with four institutions listed in this world wide ranking.

The top 100 universities in the world - QS rankings - Education News - Education - The Independent

actually according to the sources cited by Wikipedia all of the UC's except Merced make the top 200 in the US

University of California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So, yes government can do things really well and it would appear that developing a world class system of higher education is one of them.

God lets you be successful because he trusts you that you will do the right thing with it. Now, does he get disappointed often? All the time, because people get there and they forget how they got it.

Steve Harvey

That quote supports charity, not government redistribution. Charity is virtuous because it is a voluntary exercise of free will. Redistribution is NOT virtuous because it is compulsory. You don't get credit for helping the poor if you're FORCED to help the poor by the government.

Have you been to Cuba? Dude, it's a mess. And a perfect example of everything wrong with socialism.

And aren't Caltech and Stanford, private schools? So that's not government "shining"

Good for California. THEY'RE BROKE! They can't AFFORD all the fancy schools and everything else they have.

Your point is analogous to a $40,000 factory worker buying a Rolls Royce and then pointing to his car as an example of how successful he is. It doesn't count if it's built on a mountain of debt.

(Regardless, state universities are within the scope of state governments. There are plenty of things that states and municipalities have the right to do that the federal government does not.)

Any real higher-ed metric would have to measure ROI, which I don't think anyone has access to. (And my hunch is that, if we did, gov't higher education wouldn't look too good...)

And like a typical misinformed liberal, blaming Cuba's woes on us....LOL

You forget the Castro government talking all that money from the soviets and ****ing over their people??

You want to educate yourself (probably not) read PJ Orourke's "Eat the rich" and his article on Cuba and their constant whining and bitching about the US...it's pathetic and a crutch when it's been their OWN fault they suck.
