I would have to say i don't know anyone better now than 4 years ago. My best off friends lost overtime at places that has had overtime like crazy since they started. Half my friends have had serious job threats during severe cutbacks at their companies. I have yet to have a friend who has list or didn't have a job get one. About 6 months ago i thought things around here were looking up. Unfortunately that has come to a screeching halt and dropped off a cliff. I am one of two guys who are out my companies doors when work comes in and between us two we can't get a full 40 hours combined. We are the second strongest electrical company in town. We used to employ 40 some electricians at our peak. We now only have 6 plus 2 apprentices and half of them aren't working. It is bad here and getting worse. 3.5 years and things have only gotten worse. That is why Obama supporters are abandoning ship so bad. He isn't even slowing the spiral and he promised them paradise.
The reason your company is hurt and bleeding isn't because of the surgeon's treatment. You are damned lucky the patient is alive. Remember big companies are doing well; in fact, better than ever.
I will admit part of the reason I am doing as well as I am is the Wal-Mart stock my father bought a few years before his death. But this is exactly the problem in America. Walmart has the cash to expand and dominate, and when they do they reduce the number of related jobs in the market as well as the average pay. If I took unemployment or disability you guys would be pi$$ed at me. But Walmart expects its employees to use the Federal social safety net to make ends meet. I don't have Walmart stock anymore, but I have put some money into a bank that makes loans to entreupeaneurs in impoverished third world countries.
The policies were put in place from 1999 on to change the way the SEC reguated (banks) business and laws were changed and repealed that kept things rolling. Two wars a terrorist attack and open season on the money supply started a crisis in confidence. The part nobody talks about is lying. My father taught me, how overvalued the stock market was, the commercial real and residential estate markets, etc. The laws got changed so more and more wealth could be drained and voilà! Confidence is shaken everywhere, with production down and the costs of two stupid wars rising, we can barely pay service on the countrys debt. We are lucky that there are signs of life, it with a perfect job by everybody would take at least ten years to get back to some semblence of a healthy economy.
