I would let them burn the city down. Then when they want it rebuilt sorry not sorry.

It's better to take a tact like ATL than MN. Don't let the city burn. ATL Mayor (who I've never liked, has done a fantastic job on this) didn't let things get out of hand the first night, teamed with community organizers and known personalities, and then installed a curfew and strict measure night two. MN Mayor looked completely worthless from the start, and continues to fail.

I don't know who this Killer Mike guy Is. He has a pretty powerful message.

He's a rapper, actor, and activist (racism, police abuse, inequality, pro-gun rights, etc) here in ATL. Good guy. He's a huge Bernie supporter. I don't care for all his political views, but he's a sincere dude. I love what he said. TI and the Mayor of ATL have been great too.

The sad thing is that America was about take notice. This was the one that could cause a change. Did anyone else want to punch that cop in the face when they saw that video? I know many good cops and have several friends that are cops. That guy has douche bag written all over him. If you are kneeling on someones neck, you know when you are cutting off the wind. Certainly you can tell when they go limp. That cop is at fault purely. Over a freaking fake $20? Ok, he resisted, but he was sprawled in the street. Handcuffed behind the back, with 4 officers and was motionless for minutes after begging for relief. Why the need to restrain him in the street? The protesting is out of hand and at this point is plain ole looting. I am not saying this is no reason to protest but destroying property solves nothing at this point.
I wanted to kick that cops teeth in the moment I watched the video. He murdered that guy.

Thats the worst part. Change was coming. As a cop, we were all united and horrified by what we saw. That asshole doesn't represent "us". The vast majority of us care more about the communities we serve than ourselves and we have trash like that clown making us all look like racist lowlifes who do not respect humanity. Reform needs to happen. It has too. But the outside entities that hijacked the peaceful protests for a violent anarchist agenda that wants to turn the world upside down. They took over a legitimate protest, exploited the black community, and are destroying their communities. If it is ANTIFA, its comprised of severely underachieving white guys with liberal arts degrees that hail from the middle upper-class that need to feel important because they're losers in every other aspect of life. **** them.

Sorry for the IPA induced rant.

To the above two posts, reps. I do believe America was taking notice and would have seen more positive change and momentum had we not seen the violent distraction. I have friends and family that are police/sheriff and all were sickened by what they saw. I have a lot of friends and family that have always been 100% pro police and are firmly disgusted with what they saw. Conversely I have a lot of liberal friends and they are sickened by a lot of the violence from the protests. It's truly unfortunate that all that momentum has been stopped by both local and imported bad actors.

And the possible import of bad actors is truly disturbing. And it's not just the "import" either. It's other locals hijacking the situation. The ANTIFA elements need to be dealt with. Regardless of the import, or locals hijacking, there's still a lot of locals that are simply opportunists. The vids from the looting is awful. And those who think it's OK to loot a Target, but stay away from small business are idiots. Every business supplies jobs, tax income, and food/products to those local communities. And while my heart goes out to all the small local businesses destroyed, what about all the jobs that could be lost if Target decides to close it's doors or move away.

Do the police unions and their leadership play a role in shielding dudes like the one in the video?

As my old boss said about our Union "we spend 90% of the time defending the 10% who shouldn't have a job here anyway".

So, we should let people's property be burned down because you don't agree politically with the people doing it? I don't quite follow your train of thought. The people that own those building aren't the ones setting fire to them. Why should they be punished? It's really strange to have that viewpoint as a firefighter (I'm assuming your avatar is real). Stay safe.

Yes i am a Firefighter/Emt. I don't want to say something like that but at the same point i am not going to lead my guys into a situation that i can't protect them. And i am not going to their significant other and tell them well sorry your boyfriend, husband, wife, son,or daughter is in the hospital after getting hit in the face with a brick. If i can't protect my guys/and girls then i have failed them. The only way at this point to guarantee they are safe from the protesters actions is not to go. Which is what Minneapolis started to do unless that has a security team available to go with them.

I know a lot of people that have small business or have taken over a family business that don't deserve to lose that but at what cost does the fire department so no? We face enough dangers every day in the incidents we handle. You don't know if you will be hit with a brick or a cocktail of some kind or a gun or a knife. I know that yes a target store is a "chain store" but most of those people that work there and manage the store are locals and you support them not so much the chain store.

For example one of the bars in Minneapolis that burnt down was owned by a fire fighter that he used his savings on to open. Hell no i didn't want him to lose that but i am still not risking my people for a building that can't be saved while trying not to get assaulted at the same time. The last thing some of these cities need are to lose 2 or 3 crews to injury when they are already tried and over worked.

Philadelphia Truck 2 was significantly damaged yesterday after noon. Most of these cities and their politics already have some equipment in bad shape you take this out of service then they have to go to a reserve unit that is serviceable but not practical. Now it affects them.

You, Me and Every cop i know said this was the cops fault and knew he was going to get charged. It was wrong flat out wrong. But this to me is not a black vs white. It was a black man that committed a crime buy passing fake money and an asshole cop that chose to the be an uncaring asshole on this call. This had no impact on Baltimore, Atlanta or any city other than Minneapolis. They are just being destructive just to be irritate.

I've read that he was believed to have been on pcp or another dissociative drug.

I've also read that he threw himself on the ground and resisted getting in the vehicle for over ten minutes.

Having said that, as soon as he started saying that he couldn't breathe, the officer should have let up some.

I wouldn't want to be a cop.

There it is.

Like I said a little below, a buddy who is a sheriff here said it's a pretty common technique. He also added that there is no need for prolonged restraint like that. Even for violent guys they only do it quickly to get them on their stomach to cuff them. He said after they get him cuffed, a knee on the mid back is more than enough to keep them down. In this case, it's reported the guy kept his knee on his neck for 8 minutes.

Yup, 2016
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Philando_Castile#Trial_and_verdict

I'm pretty sure he lost consciousness and died while the cop was on him. When the paramedics arrived, he had no pulse.

Then other cops on video have said this is not a well used tactic. The cop was on his neck for 3 minutes AFTER he became unresponsive.

Like the prosecutor said...we gotta see what was going on here. Everyone wants this shit done immediately but I'm guessing it's not that easy.

Minneapolis is very liberal but idk...you can make a pro-police and anti-police argument for both left and right leaning folks. Hopefully justice is served whether that means he is charged or not. It sure didnt look good but I'm not a big fan of calling people murderers generally.

Whats going on here? Hm... Did you miss the videos?

What in the actual hell!?!?!?

Remember when there was a rational argument for banning weapons like AR-15s? Yeah...that just went out the broken window.

There is a term I read earlier that I had not heard before. " Organized Rioting". Now I always thought a riot started when a large group of protestors got together and lost control or the situation escalated because of police presence, etc. If riots are planned and "organized", who the hell is doing it and why cant that be stopped at the source? You should become fair game for deadly force when you start assaulting people, law enforcement, or anyone, and attacking buildings with fire.

ANTIFA is using BLM as a shield. It’s being exposed everywhere via video yet the MSM cannot bring themselves to utter the word ANTIFA.

It’s a tough predicament. Having the police/military use deadly force on people who are rioting (Rioting because the police are killing people), may just make things worse. Obviously it needs to be dealt with, not positive on the best way.

Yup. I'm actually surprised some of the looters and violent "protesters" haven't been shot to hell. The guys in that video sure would deserve it.

SM and cell phone apps.... ATL police stopped one organized riot before it even started in Buckhead the other night. Cops knew folks were going to head to Buckhead after the initial downtown riots because they were simply plugged into to twitter, FB, and other apps.

Looks like ATL was going off again last night as well as many other cities. Sad to see

Actually not bad at all. Curfew, and a ton of police presence.

Yeah, I hear you. I agree but this is "organized rioting". If it could somehow be proven without a doubt that these people are part of an organized militia trained or paid to destroy shit, why would it be frowned upon? It would be difficult but would only probably take once for these punks to get the message and go home. This isn't the black community protesting from what I see. Hell I am surprised they don't bust some of these fools up for "helping". Makes me sick.

Does a bomb planted on a bridge (Los Alisos) qualify for you? Shit is getting real! Not being over dramatic. Don't know how to embed the local police warnings I have received today in Orange County. Basically Antifa and Black Lives Matters are targeting the wealthy white beach communities in Orange County. That is the way they feel they will be noticed. Beaches in San Clemente have now been closed to the public due to safety concerns. Praying for everyone, but hearing groups are going down to confront the protesters.

San Clemente also has a lot of military who live there from Camp Pendleton. Huntington Beach is a target today for the rioters.

Tried to upload the notice from OC Sheriffs about the explosive device and Antifa's plans to burn and loot San Clemente, but failed.

I also received the actual flier from Black Lives Matter sent by local authorities.

I don't think you understand where I am coming from. It sounds like there needs to be some forceful act from authority but it seems they are not sure of the threat. I feel fairly sure there is a threat. This isn't a protest, its a faction trying to take over the streets. It may get worse, we may have lost this country as we knew it.

Nah, some city govs just need to get their heads out of their asses. Even MN is now saying they made a mistake letting the 3rd precinct be overrun and burnt. Their mayor looked totally useless, like he has zero clue what to do. At least ATL, which is a very liberal run city, drew a line in the sand and pretty much flipped the script last night.
