I agree that there doesn't need to be a new thread for every shooting death this year, whether it be a police officer, someone killed by a police officer, or anyone else.

Let's try and limit new threads to national stories that have some element of uniqueness or have garnered national attention.

And Jughed--there are better ways to show your frustration than creating a thread mocking these types of posts. Really poor taste.

I have no issue with them all being in one thread .

Did you expect anything else from. Jughed?

Man held in killing of Texas sheriff's deputy - CNN.com

Faith Karimi, CNN

(
CNN)A man "believed to be the alleged gunman" in the killing of a uniformed Houston-area sheriff's deputy was in custody and being questioned Saturday morning, Sgt. William Kennard of the Texas Department of Public Safety told CNN.

No charges have been filed against the man, Kennard said. The man's name wasn't given.

It was the man's mother who called the Harris County Sheriff's Department about her son, Kennard said. "All the information she had heard led to him."

A red pickup truck was parked at the spot where deputies took the person in custody, according to video shot by CNN affiliate KTRK. Authorities had said the suspect drove away from the shooting in a red Ford Ranger.

Haven't read this thread in a while. Some seriously douchey comments from a couple people in here. People never say shit when someone creates a thread about some 75 year old bass player from the 60's that passed away, but they lose their shit when you post about a cop being killed. These posts are relevant. Keep them coming.

Thoughts and prayers for the officers families. It is good to hear that they caught the guy before he could harm anyone else.

Texas sheriff asks public to help in finding deputy's killer - CNN.com

(CNN)Texas authorities pleaded for the public's help Saturday in finding the person who fatally shot a sheriff's deputy in the back as he pumped gas, saying Saturday the killing was a "cold-blooded execution."

Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said no one was in custody but investigators are "talking to people" about the shooting Friday night.

Earlier Saturday, Sgt. William Kennard of the Texas Department of Public Safety said a man "believed to be the alleged gunman" was in custody and being questioned, though he hadn't been charged. The reason for the discrepancy wasn't clear.

"I plead today for the public's assistance in our efforts to bring the suspect to the justice he so rightfully deserves," Hickman said at an afternoon news conference.

The sheriff said surveillance video shows people drove up to the Houston-area Chevron station while the shooting was happening, and he asked them to come forward.

Texas sheriff announces arrest in deputy's death - CNN.com

By Ray Sanchez, Faith Karimi, Melissa Gray, CNN
Updated 11:48 PM ET, Sat August 29, 2015

(CNN)A Texas man faces capital murder charges in the "execution-style shooting" of a sheriff's deputy while he was fueling his patrol car near Houston, authorities said.

Deputy Darren H. Goforth was in uniform when he was shot in the back Friday night in what authorities described as an unprovoked killing.

The suspect, identified as Shannon J. Miles, has been in police custody since Saturday.

His criminal history includes charges of resisting arrest, trespassing, evading detention and disorderly conduct with a firearm, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said.

'Senseless and cowardly'
The motive in the shooting, which Hickman described as "senseless and cowardly," is still unclear. But Goforth appears to have been targeted "because he wore a uniform," the sheriff said.

"We found no other motive or indication that it was anything other than that," said Hickman, adding that he doesn't believe the suspect and Goforth knew each other.

Hickman said "a big gun ... a handgun" was used in the shooting and ballistic tests on a weapon recovered matched the one used to kill the deputy.

Residents join search for suspect
Residents near the scene of the shooting as well as the tracking of a vehicle used by Miles helped lead investigators to the suspect.

"Our deputies returned to the streets ... to hold a delicate peace that was shattered last evening," Hickman said.

Earlier Saturday, Sgt. William Kennard of the Texas Department of Public Safety said a man "believed to be the alleged gunman" was in custody and being questioned, though he hadn't been charged.

The sheriff said surveillance video shows people drove up to the Chevron station while the shooting was happening. He asked them to come forward.

"This is the kind of thing that drives you right down to your soul," Hickman said. "It strikes at the heart of who we are as peace officers. ...This was just a cold-blooded execution."

Shot multiple times
The suspect shot Goforth, 47, while the deputy was filling up his patrol car at the gas station, Hickman said.

"Deputy Goforth was refueling his vehicle and returning to his car from inside the convenience store when, unprovoked, a man walked up behind him and literally shot him to death," he said.

He was shot multiple times from behind and then fell to the ground, where the suspect fired at him some more, said Deputy Thomas Gilliland, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.

The 10-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff's Office died at the scene in "an unprovoked, execution-style killing," Hickman said.

"I have been in law enforcement (for) 45 years," the sheriff said. "I don't recall another incident this cold-blooded and cowardly."

'Absolute madness'
Investigators say they believe Goforth was targeted because of his uniform.

The motive appears to be "absolute madness," Hickman said.

At a new conference before the arrest was announced, Hickman and Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson talked about the nationwide debate over the relationship between the police officers and the public, with the sheriff referring to what he called "dangerous national rhetoric."

Anderson said law enforcement officials need the country's support.

"There are a few bad apples in every profession," Anderson said. "That does not mean there should be open warfare declared on law enforcement."

All #LivesMatter
Hickman warned that the tension against officers is getting out of hand.

"When the rhetoric ramps up to the point where calculated, cold-blooded assassination of police officers happen, this rhetoric has gotten out of control," Hickman said. "We've heard 'Black Lives Matter,' 'All lives matter.' Well, cops' lives matter too. So why don't we just drop the qualifier, and just say 'Lives Matter,' and take that to the bank."

After announcing the arrest, Hickman said investigators were still trying to determine a motive.

"The general climate of the that kind of rhetoric can be influential on people that do thing like that," he said.

The sheriff's department posted "#BlueLivesMatter. #BlackLivesMatter. All #LivesMatter." on its Twitter page Saturday.

Well, I seriously don't know if, statistically speaking, cop shootings are on the rise, or if I'm now sensitive to them...I think the general belief is that they are. I've heard talk of Folks shadowing our cops to cover their "backs". That sentiment worries me if it is percolating out there...

Another officer shot last night in the arm. This one was in Norwood PA. Talking to a suicidal person always raises the stakes. And obviously this is a different case.

Las Vegas officers ambushed in shooting, police say - CNN.com

(CNN)A man with a semiautomatic handgun ambushed two officers who'd stopped their patrol car at a traffic light in Las Vegas on Sunday, police said.

An officer who was shot in the hand was being treated at a hospital, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sgt. John Sheahan said. He was in good condition.

Police haven't released the identity of the suspect, who was later arrested by the officers.

The officers were in a marked patrol car, police said, responding to a disturbance call at a local business.

"They were ambushed on the way to that call," Sheahan said.

Undersheriff Kevin McMahill praised the officers, saying they showed "remarkable restraint" when they took the suspect into custody.

"These officers are going out there and being attacked while they are sitting in a police car, and we didn't fire a single shot back at him," he told CNN affiliate KSNV.

McMahill said his department has changed the way it deploys officers, sending out two-officer units "because of the narrative of violence against police across the country."

"We are certainly working on pins and needles," he told KSNV. "(That is) part of the reason we doubled them up. So we have two officers available immediately whenever an incident occurs."

As someone who works in law enforcement (corrections) it is a scary time for those in uniform. I won't stop to fill up for gas when I'm in my uniform. Though I'm not a police officer, I'm wearing a uniform and some of the cockroaches on the street don't know or care about the difference.

Firefighter in Michigan murdered during a fill the boot fund drive. He was run over on purpose. Rip brother

That's terrible. Are they sure it was on purpose? I don't know anything about this but I know when Firemen do that here in Charleston, they stand at intersections in the road during traffic some with with no safety vests, just their uniforms and no.signs.to advise drivers. I have seen them get clipped by cars not expecting them in the lanes of a six lane high way. That's awful if so.

This guy has a vest on but they are in the roads during this activity and this is typical even during.rush hour.

Lansing firefighter Dennis Rodeman died after police say a hit-and-run driver intentionally ran him over while he was collecting funds at a "fill the boot" event to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

"We believe that this was not an accident and that the actions of this individual were intentional," Lansing Police Chief Michael Yankowski said

Firefighter dies after hit-and-run while collecting for charity

KEN PALMER AND MATT MENCARINI, LANSING STATE JOURNAL 10:06 p.m. EDT September 9, 2015

Police said there was a verbal exchange between the suspect and Rodeman moments before the incident.

"The suspect came by, was upset for whatever reason (and) circled back around" before running into the firefighter, Kraus said. "The preliminary investigation is that he deliberately hit the firefighter who was standing in the road, collecting for the charity."

The suspect, who was driving a small pickup truck, continued north on Cedar Street and eventually was stopped in the 3100 block of Lawdor Road, Lansing police Capt. Darin Southworth said in a news release. He ran from the vehicle and was caught by officers.

Tionna Davis said she was driving southbound on Cedar Street when a northbound vehicle swerved from the right lane into the left lane and hit the firefighter. One of the boots the firefighter was wearing hit her car, she said.

"He literally tried to hit him," she said, referring to the suspect.

Traffic was moving very slowly at the time, Davis said. Two other drivers chased after the vehicle that struck the firefighter and managed to get the license plate number, she said.
