@DanWolken: Well that's not "unprecedented" RT @schadjoe: Penn State facing loss of bowl/s and scholarships, but not so-called death penalty

Joe Schad "says sanctions were not self-imposed nor negotiated." And "sanctions expected to be extremely harsh and could evebe percived as more damaging long term than death penalty"

Yikes.

My question is, which current PSU commits are possible for ND?

My bro and parents (because they pay the bills) just got interesting emails from Penn State explaining the decision. Email also said that Paterno's name will remain on the library.

I was pretty sure that would happen.

Im glad its coming down, you cant honestly respect a man who knowingly allowed children to be victimized. With that said i also really feel for the current coaching staff on Penn state, they have a long up hill battle that's going to be borderline impossible to succeed on

It's very hard not to succeed with the awful schedule they play.

But they knew that coming in to the job.

This is also correct, this may be an odd opinion and one of the few on this board but i am rooting for Penn state to turn things around. After all the terrible stuff and terrible people who ran that university into the ground

Glad it came down. Took to long.

Now, I'll take an unpopular point of view on the whole death penalty. I don;t think they should get it. And I say this in compassion for the people who it will affect - not the football program, but the people whose livelihood depends on it. I'm talking about the shop-owners and the employees and all the people who need the football program to be around so they can make a living. You know how scary it is to lose your house and not have money to feed your family??? All because some sick bastard and the almost-as-sick bastards who covered it up?

My point is...hurting innocents is not going to take away all the pain and incredible damage the victims are going through and have been going through. Personally, I'd rather not create even more victims (albeit far different victims) just to punish the criminals. Like many small college towns, the Penn St football program creates a ton of jobs that you and I don't even think about. As someone looking for work in a small town, I feel their pain.

Now, I fully appreciate those wanting the death penalty, and I've read all the arguments. I personally just don't want it to happen, and it has nothing to do with the actual football. And to those that do want it to happen, I get that...

I agree 100%, i can see both sides of the argument on the so called " death penalty" but i would agree with you for the most part

I got to ask. Instead of the death penalty or bowl bans and scholarship reductions. Is it possible for the NCAA to disassociate PSU based on everything that has happened?

I just had an interesting conversation with my father on this topic, and he brought up a situation that I think is very plausible and will be severe.
1.Loss of HUGE number if not all of Paterno's wins.
2.Ban from bowl games for the amount of time covered up(14+ years)
3.Huge drop in scholarships

This, coupled with the amount of money they will eventually lose in lawsuits will absolutely cripple the university. And they are deserved of it.

Very nice post. I like your outlook for the others that will pay the price for something they could not control.

I don't they should get the death penalty. I think they deserve something on the order of a 5 year post season ban, humungous financial penalties to benefit the victims, and no scholarship restrictions.

This....especially the bold part. Lets not forgot Penn State aren't the real victims in this cluster ****

I'm kind of torn with what should happen. The death penalty would be fitting for the crimes committed(not just the football program mind you) but you are right L.A., that community which is already suffering will suffer even greater if that were to happen. I am however confused by some of the PSU fans that are still opposed to anything that goes against Paterno. Sure it's tragic that a legendary figure turned out to be more of a myth, but don't continuously defend a guy that was more worried about winning football games than the well being of children. Ego is the downfall of many a great, and not so great men. This is just one of the more dispicable cases.

I agree with no death penalty. This was not a football issue. It was a criminal issue that just happened to involve people from the football program.

I will gladly take Breneman if he chooses to decommit.
