The SEC is sooooo hard.

The myth perpetuated by SEC fans is that every week is such a bloodbath, nobody from outside the league could withstand the grind. Yet in the month of November, the average Sagarin rating of Georgia's opponents was 70th. After opening against Michigan, Alabama didn't play anyone in Sagarin's top 30 for the next seven games.

Notre Dame didn't go more than three straight games without playing a Sagarin top 20 team

I have saved and printed this out so that whenever any of my SEC homers start up I will just hand them a copy of this article and say "STFU and go away."

I jumped on a Bama forum just to see what they were saying and there was a thread titled, "But they didn't even win their conference". Found the typical crap that we didn't play anybody, so that got me to register so I could post this article.

Haven't done it yet because I'm still waiting on them to send the usual automatic reply to verify my e-mail account (no it's not in spam or the junk folder. lol). My guess is they haven't got the automation thing down just yet.

SEC fans are going crazy over this. Im on a car forum and all the SEC homers are banging on ND because even though they are undefeated they are not the "best" team.

My response.

ND fans/alums I don't know why you are even bothering to defend the Irish. Obviously, since Notre Dame du Lac does not play a juggernaut SEC schedule they are a garbage team and overrated. ND needs to STOP playing a national schedule of FBS teams, and get on board with padding the schedule with FCS cupcakes and persistent conference bottom feeders. Since those enduring bottom feeders happen to be in the SEC they are instantly elevated to powerhouses. Do not over analyze this hypocrisy because your team is garbage and overrated, its an SEC thing.
ND also needs to drop their academic standards. You simply cannot win in this day in age with smart kids who love to play football against the barely literate who are dangled a fast track to the NFL during their recruitment. ND also needs to remember to over recruit as much as possible and pull the scholarships of the players who get hurt or who simply cannot cut it. Simply put, because Fuc* education its about winning! The country needs more bus drivers and garbage men anyway.
Also, you have to remember ND fans, that if an SEC team were to play against the same opponents and had a similar amount of close games. That team would be heaped upon it praises of determination, domination and toughness. Since the Irish are not in the SEC they will never hear such accolades. Additionally Irish fans even if Notre Dame du Lac wins the National Championship. Your team will not get the credit it deserves, because once again since the Fighting Irish do not play a juggernaut SEC schedule your team is garbage and overrated.

There is probably no point in trying to reach actual SEC fans with Forde's analysis, because they're too far gone at this point. But everyone here should share Forde's column on facebook and email it to your friends. It may be too late to save SEC fans from ignorance, but there may be some hope for the rest of the CFB world (which will have to choose between the SEC again, which everyone is tired of, and ND, which many people seemed to have been born tired of).

I kind of hope that nobody gets through to SEC fans before the game. Can you imagine what will happen if we win? Heads will literally explode.

One thing your post brought to mind as well as Veer's excellent one above...many of these people don't even put ND up against Bama or UGA, just the SEC in general. Its kinda bizzare. I get defending your conference somewhat as I am a follower of Big Ten basketball in addition to ND's Big East one. However, it almost comes across as these people not defending a team, it is the SEC against the world mentality and only those that buy into the all-powerfulness of the SEC are then OK to discuss the individual teams/rivalries.

Creepy really.

Getting involved in the comment section of any sports article is to voluntarily engage with the most uneducated, foul, and despicable humans on this earth.

A friend just showed me this article. Very good write up. I like that he finally talked about what no one else is regarding UGA's close losses to UT and UK.

His article takes an angle that others simply refuse to put on paper. Its the same in another hobby of mine, home audio. Audiophiles will defend snake oil till the end of time because they heard a difference and refuse to believe there is a thing called placebo. No amount of measurements and actual facts can change their mind. This article is the set of facts that need to be presented so that at least SEC outsiders won't get sucked in with their presented placebo effect.

I sent this to a big UG fan that works in our office outside of Atlanta. He replied back that he wasn't going to read it, because it was pointless.

Frickin Vandy won 5 games in the SEC this year. Any other conference it's because the conference is down, because it's the SEC it just shows the depth of it.

The 5 teams that Vandy beat in conference combined for 6 wins.

I believe I read online today (I'll look for the source) that the top 6 teams in the SEC were a combined 30-0 vs. the Bottom 8 at one point. It may be more now.

I support ND but it seems useless to do the comparison week-by-week like that. Every team has peaks and valleys of strength in their schedule. One could say that ND only looks like they have a stronger schedule here because their peaks happened to match up more favorably with the others' valleys.

To get a clearer sense of the strength of schedule, why not just accumulate the opponents of each team and then compare? That seems like the only way that makes sense...In that regard, I think ND and BAMA were around 30th in the nation.

This guy is using a cheap and easy tactic in order to appeal to ND fans. Pretty lame. I support ND but I don't want, or need, to resort to bending facts in order to do it. There is more than enough ammo for ND fans to use against the SEC fanbase.

I was talking to a few office workers at while working today. I have been getting a lot of football comments about my ND hat I wear. It usually sparks a small conversation about our favorite teams. Today is the first time I have found someone a feed up as me about the overrated SEC conference that won't play anybody outside their conference.

There is no reasoning with the delusional SEC fans. One of my roommates today who is a huge (obnoxiously huge) Nebraska fan told me today that we are going to get killed by either Bama or UGA. I laughed and just started spittin' facts about schedule strength and all that. He then just straight up said none of that mattered and we are going to get murdered regardless.

On SVP & Ryen Russillo show today. Russillo said this about the SEC:

"You aren't really that smart down there but the good textbooks are coming"

That would have been awesome except that the majority of his SEC listeners probably didn't undersand what the hell he was talking about.

Notre Dame Very Beatable - Page 4
If you dont play in the SEC you are garbage.

I find it funny how one guy said, Tenn, Ole Miss, Miss St and Vandy were powerhouses. Basically they always have been and always will be stepping stone schools for the power schools (Bama, FLA, and LSU). Sure one of those teams may surprise and beat a better team every once in a while but for the most part they are all conference win fodder for the bigger schools.

"Iron sharpens Iron." Whatever. I pretty much spewed the entire Forde article and they want none of it. But it's cordial up to this point.
