I hope everyone realizes that because we again refuse to oversign to account for unavoidable attrition we will be entering summer camp with under 80 scholarship players... right now I think the count is somewhere around 78. We've effectively self-sanctioned ourselves to almost USC levels... for no earthly reason.

Starting to believe ND football will never be consistently competitive until we get major changes at the top of the University (talking BoT). Anyone else thinking about rededicating their life to becoming a Notre Dame admin?

Here's the quick way: dump your girlfriend, go to Moreau Seminary, get a Ph.D in something, get tenured, publish lots of research.

Should take about 4-5 years....

Those are fighting words for me...and Lax! Ha!

As to the OP, the situation obviously merits attention and/or discussion (and we've had them on here over the years), but it's so damn complicated. Not sure at all what course of action can be taken, given the uniqueness of the program.

It's hard to be a Irish fan. Real Hard. When they do win though, it feels super special though that we know they are doing it the right way. It's not always the least stressful way though.

Something has got to give, I don't think it ever will be the oversigning but we need to relax on some other aspects

IMO some of this can be done with reconsidering the way we count 5th years. Don't we limit our commitments based off of the 5th years we are expecting to bring back? We could sign a few more players and then, if we don't lose any to transfers, medicals, etc., we take a few less 5th years back. I know this will be a gamble on losing some 5th years we wanted, but I would rather do that then basically "sanction ourselves" with under 80 schollies. I'm not saying dont count any 5th years. If we are wanting to bring back 8, maybe we count 4-5. This would allow us to "over sign" 3-4 recruits without truly over signing. Does this make sense or am I not understanding the over signing practice?

This.

Over signing a bit with an expected number of attrition in mind... OR allowing JUCOs ( this seems obvious, the school allows them, why not the football program??)

I will continue to beat my dead horse also... Schedule like you want to play big bowl games,... Lightening the load, even a little bit, could potentially make worlds of difference, and no... A slightly lesser schedule will not keep us out of a playoff
