Loy somewhat addressed it. Basically said yes guys may have thought or crossed their mind of transferring. Didn’t at all commit to names or positions.

Remember, freshman in college after one semester think of transferring. It’s just gonna happen. We’ll see and I’m sure staff knows which names they need to prioritize to address

this player doesnt have anything to do with the comment he was referring to tho right?

Not sure if you've been in the Omar thread, but yes, this is what he's referring to. Omar is apparently a can't miss prospect and you can read about him and his abilities here. I don't think we should immediately go all in on Omar, but maybe he's the next Percy Harvin, who knows.

The Styles/Colzie thing was first posted on here December 7th I think. It's been one of the worst kept secrets on the internet since probably end of November. I don't see a reason to beat around the bush with it being all over other places now -- neither of them like Del. That's a commonality between them. I was told that both are 100% gone if he were to be retained. Del (allegedly) also had issues with some of the other WRs who have transferred and the receiver room is just a mess overall.

For Zo, the parts I can't confirm is that he would go to Ohio State to play with his brother + play in a better passing attack with a better WR coach + probably get more NIL money. For Deon, I don't think he for sure has a transfer destination or anything like that. It's certainly not a done deal yet that either are gone and it's really common for freshman to go through phases like this where they ultimately opt to stay at ND.

I will say that it goes beyond those two and that's the scary part. Allegedly, all of the freshman were grumpy about their PT. This includes the RBs and I'm sorry but it's ridiculous to think that they would sit Kyren for you. Like it's actually comical and these kids need a bit of a wake up call // ego check. However, with immediate transfers and NIL tampering it is easy as hell for kids to get it in their head that the "right" thing to do is to quit. I'm extremely pessimistic about the state of college football.

Yikes, then Del has to be gone. I was not of that opinion based on missing Amorion and CJ because I think those guys screwed Del over, but if these kids had a year with him and they're that unhappy, it's reasonable cause.

So what the hell is the status of Del then? I keep hearing people say "if he's retained, then xyz." So you mean to tell us that his position is still in limbo this long after we hired Freeman? If it's that big of an issue, why wouldn't they part ways with him until they find his replacement? What am I missing?

Is he seriously under consideration of being kept around through '22 and beyond?

We got a NY6 bowl game in two weeks and signing day was yesterday. There is no way that replacing him before signing day would've helped anyone. ND is all hands on deck for at least two weeks, and then I think they're going to figure out what's going on with their staff. Same thing probably applies to Quinn.

Del fucked himself over by having zero backup options lined up. 17 year old kids are going to do erratic things. You have to prepare for the possibility that any of them could flip.

Auto transfers were such a horrendous idea. That needs to be changed faster than anything NIL related.

Nuking the auto transfer rule should be priority number one for the NCAA. There were a LOT of "down" teams this year and I think the massive uptick in transfers played a significant role.

I think it became tough for the NCAA when people started using the NCAA loopholes. Justin Fields was just one example. Easier for the NCAA to just let it go than to deal with all the individual cases.

We'll have 2 more WRs playing in 2022 than we had this year. Jayden Thomas should be able to actually play along with Joe Wilkins Jr.

Anything from Merriweather/Colzie is icing on the cake. It's a problem in 2023, not 2022.

Who's going to transfer when there's mandatory playing time if you have two legs? 95% of transfers are playing time related. We're far more likely to get transfers in at WR than out.

And take another WR, sure, but not a small guy who can't outrun anyone. Total BK move.

It wasn’t about Omar. It’s about our WRs or potential lack thereof. You just blew off everyone that said our numbers were an issue.

They should've gone the other direction and said "outside of a head coaching change or NCAA sanctions at the university, no one gets immediate eligibility until they've graduated."

I would also respect "must have completed two years of school in good academic standing to receive immediate eligibility waiver." The immediate in-and-out crap coupled with NIL tampering is a total disaster. The Quinn Ewers situation is a perfect example.

FWIW I think it looks a little fishy if you can him 1 day after signing day. I'd say give it a week at least, no rush. You can start your search now though.

So Lax, what’s your prediction? Are these two gone?

Hard to say until we get through the bowl game and get an idea of who will be the WR coach.

I'll say with no Del and Generic Coach X:
Styles 70% gone
Colzie 50% gone

I'm with ya here. I live and breathe college football. A year ago I thought expanding the playoff to 8 or 12 would tick me off, but the combination of NIL and the transfer portal in the same year will completely flip the universe upside down. Schools are straight up buying players and it's not good.

Wow, this would suck. I like Styles more than Colzie, but both pushed Austin and Lenzy for playing time and I think made the WR group better as a result. Styles was out there pancaking dudes downfield, he's fun to watch.

From my personal experience and observations why are WRs always primadonnas? Understand if you absolutely hate the place but upset about playing time? Like come on, nothing is guaranteed in life, you have to work for it. Thinking they’ll pet playing time in the OSU WR room? Come on. No way any of our WRs touch the field with their talent.

If Styles goes to OSU... he's basically saying he'd rather sit for a year than play at Notre Dame.

If this actually happened and Austin decided to move on…

People need to prepare themselves for the (unlikely but possible) scenario that the scholarship WRs next year are:

-Avery Davis (coming off torn ACL)
-Joe Wilkins (coming off torn ACL)
-Jayden Thomas
-Tobias Merriweather

And I'm not 100% convinced that Davis or Thomas will be back, but I feel like they would/will be if others have already left.

Realistically... hard to see us not adding some guys from the portal, and hard to see Freeman/Rees going 0/4 in retaining the guys who are leaning towards moving on. But the situation right now in the WR room is dire.

Flip side of the coin is that if Austin/Lenzy/Colzie/Styles all came back then you have one of the top WR groups in the country. So no one really knows what to expect right now.

I don't think he will sit at Ohio State. They had three receivers this year near 1000 yards. Two of those are leaving, which means you have two "top dog" spots up for grabs. I don't think there are two guys on their roster that are clearly better than Styles.

What about Raridon playing at WR?
