Regarding "a mandated pathway" and "being forced into a 3 year waiting period" maybe look at other professions.
Lawyers have a seven (+) year mandated pathway.
Medical doctors have a ten year (at least) mandated pathway.
Professors at decent universites have a eight year mandated pathway.
CPAs, Nurses, Union jobs, many more….

And almost all students/interns/associates in the professions have little immediate economic opportunity, live poor and get treated like s--- in their mandated pathway.
No free education (rather a life-time debt), no free housing or nutrition programs, no elite coaching (believe me an internship at a top law firm or hospital you are abused, not coached), and definitely no "sitting out" a commitment.

But yeah, I see the point: People like Hamilton are so very special in our society, they deserve a break from that opressive 3 year commitment (I mean "waiting period") of playing school and chasing girls.

Obviously, apples to oranges on many levels when you compare athletics to those professions. You really need to compare it to other sports and those paths to professionalism. IMO.

I just want to point out that I think the injury is worse than what has been reported. Fat pad impingement was given right after the game but the Monday press conference mentioned that he was getting PRP. That's what you would do for a grade 2 or 3 MCL sprain but not for the fat pad. The injury live looked like MCL or meniscus so I think it is actually one of those two injuries and not the impingement.

I for one would be very surprised if he makes it back for anything in the regular season - and that's because of the recovery time. They probably don't want to publicly state the injury so the draft pundits on TV don't have 6 months to talk about " Will KH he the same player, etc."

Teams will know the injury at the combine but it won't matter by that point.

Playing devil's advocate, PRP may be used for ligament recovery, but is there something that says you can use it for his injury? The purpose of PRP is to help expedite the recovery/healing process, so why not for this injury?

Right. Only a select few in the world can do what these professional athletes can do. Those other professions are numbered in the millions.

PRP at it's essence is pro-inflammatory. Fat pad impingement is typically chronic and mechanical leading to inflammation of the fat pad under the patellar tendon. Think about the fat pad getting pinched by the thigh bone and shin bone everytime he straightens his leg, that's what causes this condition. Not really much to do to help that. Never really heard it as an acute injury but even if it were the basis of it is counter to what the PRP does.

With the fat pad there's nothing broken or damaged, just painful and typically managed by anti inflammatory medicines. Adding PRP would cause more scarring and likely more chronic impingement if that were the case. That's why I just highly doubt the fat pad as the actual diagnosis. Of course, the only ones who know are the player, doctor, athletic training staff, and coach. No one will say anything about it so we won't know.

PRP essentially helps ligaments like the MCL scar down so if there's a tear, it could help with scarring down and starting rehab with more stability.

Not to change the subject but is there a reason Dave Clawson isn’t sought more as a head coach and better jobs? The dude has been winning at Wake Forest for a long time. If I had to pick BK’s next head coach from up and comers it’d be 1A Fickel 1B Clawson.

at UNC
NC State
at Clemson
at BC

These are his remaining games. All of them are losable, especially on the road against Clemson who hasn't lost at home in a long time. He could finish 9-3 from 8-0 for all we know.

Up until this year, his best Wake season was 8-5 (twice). I think WF has done well by keeping him for stability and not firing him, similar to Narduzzi at Pitt, and WF also has a pretty good QB right now (not as good at Pitt's). When you look at the body of work, he's got this year going for him but prior to that he hasn't really stood out at all. He was 32-31 at Bowling Green and was 10-3 the last year he was there.

He's 54 so he's not what I'd call a young up and comer but 54 for a HC isn't that old when you consider Mack Brown is in his conference.

He redshirts a lot of freshman and preaches strength and conditioning. I really think it's a good fit and Wake would consider keeping him around a bit longer to see if he can build on this season.

Why wouldn’t you want Cincy in the playoffs?

I don't know about him, but given the chance that Alabama and Clemson both miss the playoffs there could be a legit scenario where a Cindarella manages to cause the upset and win. I'd probably lose my mind if UC got lucky and won the whole thing in an off year personally.

He should consider this. I say so knowing that not only is he injured but he's been targeted by at least two cheap shots so far this season that I can recall.

Kyle might be a 20 year old college athlete, but he is allowed to act in his own self interests

Right. It’s a different era, and that’s okay. Jaylon Smith really made this apparent. I don’t think there is an ND fan out there that wouldn’t wish Jaylon sitting out that bowl game. With Kyle, the precarious nature of his health situation is known, and it would be hard to fault the young man.

cincy beat ND so they must go down. however i wouldn't mind seeing cincy get taken to the woodshed by georgia or bama.

Cincy getting destroyed in the first round of the playoff would probably shut every other G5 team up for go forward.

I read this and heard Harry Dean Stanton screaming "avenge me" to Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen in Red Dawn.

For the Rivals BGI subscribers, a little birdie told me that it’s being moved, like all the other Stu Coman sites already have, to On3.
Anyone got any good info on this?

Pitt premium boards have a guy that is uncle to Anthony Speca. This guy claims that ND is telling him that Freeman is coach-in-waiting and that Kelly will be retired by the time he gets there. TIFWIW.

Not saying he’s wrong, just hard to believe they would tell that to kids without the fear of them telling everyone

Just curious, why would ND be talking to a recruit's uncle?

Speca was the first offer in the ‘24 class and is presumably a very important target in recruiting. He’s not just one of the 100 or so offers that get sent out every year.

Which is not to say random internet guy is telling the truth.

Most unbelievable part of this is that Kelly would retire in the next 2-3 years IMO. Recruiting is rolling now.

Thought this from Sampson (article in The Athletic) was interesting. Is he hearing something? Would be welcome news.

Speaking of next year, what if I told you Isaiah Foskey and Jarrett Patterson returned? Would that feel like a win considering the departures of Kyle Hamilton and Kyren Williams feel like foregone conclusions? Notre Dame has had its best seasons when it creates its own luck with players returning. And next year could be an all-time comeback story for some of the junior/senior classes.

I think it’s a coin flip that Foskey returns and I think there is about a 20% chance Patterson returns. Patterson coming back would be massive.

The spicier rumor is that Kyren Williams made some emotional, off-the-cuff comments in the locker room after senior day where he implied he was coming back for another year. Personally, I hope cooler heads prevail and that he goes pro. Possibly my favorite ND player ever but I think he needs to go get himself paid.

Regardless — Kelly has built one hell of a culture at ND these past few years.
