1. Damn I guess I missed a good thread before stuff got deleted lol..
2. To the responses to my original post....im trying to go in order so sorry if its confusing haha..
Woolybug25 said "I would rather have Schutt than another WR..... any WR other than DGB. You take a kid like this and worry about the details later. That's just my opinion... but I would be willing to bet that it is also the opinion of almost every consistent program. Saban, Stoops, Meyer, etc would have all found a place for a top 10 DT."
---yeah you take a top 10 DT...I feel you and i was speechless when i got the news saying we took Schutts verbal away. But look at it this way...Like I said before Day can play inside and outside. Dominated The Opening. Schutt plays inside only and didnt want to play Guard. Schutt had PLENTY of time and opportunities to verbal way before Day even got an offer and started to do well on the camp circuit. Trust me, I would love to see Schutt/Day/Jarron or Armstead be added in this class. Also, with Michigan turning away.....there might be a little more to it?? Martin graduates from Michigan this year...they def need a NG/DT....Somethings up if MICHIGAN doesnt want the #29/top 10 Dline guy....Am I not right? lol.
As far as Chris Brown and the WRs...its a need. Floyd is gone. GA3/DaVaris yet to prove anything. TJ had a nice start to the season, but disappeared at the end and has a lot to work through just on his personal life coming into this. (thoughts and prayers still going out to the Jones family. Theo showed flashes and was damn good but.....can he stay healthy??? Toma unproven. Daniel Smith unproven. Goodman?? Smith/DD/GA3 and TJ to a point are all made for the outside. TJ I can see working the slot but he showed he is a legit deep threat. But they all play outside. Greenberry/Ferguson are made for the outside. We need to start getting some quality depth at the slot. To build forward. Right now we got a lot of athletes playing the slot/wr. I am with you though Chris Brown wouldnt be my first choice, but there is no denying has a lot of talent.
Scott Daly---- Yeah who needs a longsnapper right? Yeah till that extra point snap shoots over the holders head and we lose by one. Or snap shoots over Kyle/Turks head for a safety....no one knows Jordan Cowarts name...Im sure some have never even heard it...but I bet you he has a nice NFL career. Kid has been probably the most consistent player on the team for the last 2 years including Michael Floyd. So yeah Scott Daly is VITAL to this class.
4 kickers--- I like you GBDomer but Tausch was solid till Ruffer happened. Then why wouldnt you sign a kid from Michigan who WANTED to go to ND...who lived and breathed ND football with one of the strongest legs to come out of high school in a long time?? Everyone b*tches about Turks punts 75% of the time...so I ask again why wouldnt you sign someone who can hit field goals/add competition to the punt game and most importantly add to the kickoff game. All of which ND has lacked greatly for quite sometime. I dont think I need to remind people of Syracuse a few years ago....sure that was a long as hell FG attempt but Id love to have someone who has a legit chance to make it rather on relying on pure luck of a kid you know doesnt have distance.
IrishLax--thanks for the post....i can tell you DID think it through and it was def well educated. Here my counter...
--they are requirements like you said for those positions....but you list all the players I listed and agreed that you would like to have them over Schutt at the end. Yes we have Ishaq/Councell/Niklas/Perkins and possibly Okwara all slated at OLB. (I think Okware ends up at DE) But, how do you think Bama/Ohio St/Fla/Sc have great Ds year in and out....They can shelf a 4-5 star kid for 2 years...then when kids leave/graduate they reload. This is what is different now....Kelly is building a team for the FUTURE as well as the present. Prime example...Louis Nix....he could have def been used last yr and in all honesty he could have played quality mins last year even with his weight. Yet, we sat him, let him change his body/mindset/outlook...and hes gonna be a hell of a player for it. Now look at Ian Williams. VERY good DT for us...yet he wasnt ready his frosh year and debatable his soph year. Imagine if we had depth where we could have sat Ian for a year....let him get his body to where he was capable of playing at a high D1 level.
Ifeadi is a talent. Size and Speed. Yet hes 215...imagine getting him...and with Ishaq/Councell/Spond/Shembo all infront of him...Hes not forced to play early...he gets up to a healthy 230-235 in 2 to 3 years...Ishaq leaves early, and Councell doesnt pan out....we got a possibility of a bigtime player in Ifeadi where hes NOT overwhelmed when starts his first game. I would take that over having a Schutt type player where if he doesnt pan out at DT he is another Stockon...where you cant really move him and hope the light turns on. Ifeadi doesnt pan out at OLB, he can be used as a pass rusher, or aka Steve Filer in a sp teams role where he just fits.
That leads me to the Turner situation. Championship teams are built through 4-5stars who turn into superstars and first round picks....but they also have the Scott Dalys and the "bennett jackson" guy on sp teams. You get kids who want to be at ND bc they understand it as well as will do anything just to get on the field reguardless of snaps. Turner has the skill set to be a sp teams nightmare as well as a formidable safety with time. ND has had the Mike Anellos/David Brutons/Bennett Jacksons/Steve Filers on sp teams. Sure we give up a big one but at the sametime we get TOs on sp teams.
All in all Kelly is building a team. Weis was building NFL players which leads to winning games in some cases or it leads to what got him the door out. I love Weis, and I loved following recruiting when he was here. But his downfall was he got the elite kids to come, or at least listen...but then when he didnt get them we were falling back on kids that you knew werent going to play or couldnt find home anywhere. Kelly is finding kids at worst can impact the game on sp teams. We are getting QUALITY depth. QUALITY athletes that can play multiple positions. Which leads to elite talent NOT having to be thrown into the fire their freshmen year. Its NOT a bad thing to not have to play a 5 star kid right off the bat. In fact itd be a nice change to get a 4-5star kid and see him grown for a year or two. I mean Kelly has proven over and over he can develop. aka Brian Smith/Harrison Smith....I mean imagine them in 4/5 years of Kelly and Co. Not being switched around constantly and being taught 1 defense, 1 scheme, 1 position, 1 technique....i think theyd be pretty damn good like we saw glimpses of.
Have you ever played or coached? You still refuse to describe your football experience.

Dang. I guess I will get banned again for axing that question. This time, I won't miss this site.
