I saw a run where they were trying to block 8 guys-4th quarter- and its because there is no skill at wideouts and a young inexperience QB I hate double hate to say it but one of the best o lines in the country and a tremendous tight end will go to waste this year. The defense seems to be really good but they cant score points, hell maybe they can and may have to. There is nothing wrong with this o line that a normal offense wouldnt fix.
Maybe it’s a chicken and egg thing but I saw an offense that couldn’t function because the middle of the line kept getting blown up, usually by four-man rushes.
Yes I wish we had more WRs too but the guys we have are capable and Buchner, while young, will be fine. He was throwing under intense pressure all night no wonder he missed a few.

Too many excuses? Bruh, you really expected Harry to fix the OL in 1 offseason? Have it moving like clockwork after 1 game? After losing the best player and most experienced lineman of the entire group against one of the most talented rosters in the nation on the road?

Harry isn't going to fix Correll or Lugg's physical limitations and we have limited options because his predecessor recruited poorly for several cycles before finally getting his ass in gear. Harry is having to deal with that problem.

These are just awful takes.
Just hit ignore. It works =)

Also worth noting that Harry recruited all 6 players (Banks took over for Bars after the injury) from the 2018 OL who are now in the NFL. 4 of them have started in the NFL. All of the starters on the 2020 OL, with the exception of Patterson, were also recruited by Harry and are in the NFL. I'd argue that the talent was there on those OL's to win a Natty. The rest of the roster? Eh, that's a different story.

Was Patterson a HH recruit? Wasn’t it Quinn who made the major push for him when he was first hired, before NSD.

IIRC, Patterson was a quick “offer, visit, commit” recruit to end the 2018 cycle.

Also worth noting that Banks was a last minute, save the class get.

Are we? Then why aren't they playing now? And if the expectation is they will be better next year -- how? If they're not playing this year...
1) I don't know how long Harry is going to stick with Correll and Lugg. Kristofic played better than both of them, and I've seen zero reason that he's the one that sits when Patterson comes back.

2) Most of the talent are underclassmen right now. But you'll have Alt, Fisher and likely Kristofic returning in '23, and I imagine Spindler and Coogan will get some legitimate playing time this year, particularly Spindler if Lugg continues to play poorly, because I firmly believe he may just end up replacing him.

The unfortunate reality is that Harry has shown he relies on experience too much, like we saw when he had McGlinchey on the bench in '14, in favor of Christian Lombard. Need to hope it doesn't take him nearly an entire season to figure out Lugg isn't the answer.

It's not that bleak. They played one of the top teams in the country whose defense was much improved from last year. We, myself included assumed going into the game that OSU's D wouldn't be that good given last years performance and having a new DC.

I think most are guilty of this. Yet we forget how much improved our D was going from BVG to Elko.

I don't know when the wives tale began that it takes weeks or longer for a new coordinator to put in his system or show improvement, but it's absolutely bogus. People have been floating that idea for awhile and it's simply not true. Good coordinators like Elko and Knowles can turn things around quick, especially if they have loads of talent already waiting like the Buckeyes did.

The funny thing is Golden is in his first year and most assumed he would have things working pretty well right out of the gate which it appears he has.

Under Knowles, his defenses were worse in year 1 and got better in subsequent years at Duke/OKIE. pOSU has been a bit of an outlier in terms of success out of the gate. To your point, pOSU has a bit more talent and anything was going to be an upgrade.

That's because things were not broken.

And good coordinators can turn things around quickly if they have good, smart talent. Sometimes things are a mess.

There was a good amount of people saying hiring HH was not good and it seems right.

The OL was dog crap to start the year last year too
We were definitely bad last year, but we weren't allowing free Marshall runners up the middle. We're frequently giving up pressure in the QBs face after the snap. Can't run any kind of offense that way.

Knowles never had talent to work with in his first year, not like he has at tOSU. Elko/Lea turned things around year 1 too, and quick. The point is it's a stupid wives tale that keeps getting regurgitated constantly. It's bogus. Good coordinators can and frequently do turn things around quick. There are certainly a lot of bad coordinators that don't turn things around quickly though, or they never do.

How can anyone defend Correll anymore? Whether it’s the media or the coaches, I can’t fathom how bad the backups must be for ND to continue to trot this undersized center out there every game only to be driven back into the backfield. Should probably include Lugg as well who reminds me of the Tin Man in need of oil. I’m sure they’re great young men w/ bright futures but it’s not on the gridiron I’m afraid.

It’s not a player it’s the coaching if the whole unit sucks.

There were times Mustipher really struggled after taking over for Nick Martin, but I'm not sure we've ever had this much trouble in the interior. Hearing MFMF give the 5 OL a vote of confidence was surprising. Either our backups haven't made as much progress as we were led to believe and the front 5 really are our best...or...I've got nothing else.

Or we didn’t recruit the right lineman.
