Same numbers outside of 5 yards on the season. But if I had to guess, Koon is going to include pass attempts by QB’s that aren’t Ian Book because those are extremely relevant. Haha.

I had a statistician tell me that stats were 90% BS. Idk, but I do know that playing bad teams inflate those numbers. Tbh, I don’t really care. I just want the team to be better against good opponents, and mo better against bad teams. Navy, ISU, and the like are not measuring sticks in my book. If it wasn’t NAVY!!, I’d petition to ban the triple option.

I’ll also say this, there seems to be a lot more jabbing than there used to be on this site. I seem to recall a time when the Koon was banned. Is this the same as Koon-ja? Because there was a lot of interest from what I can recall about his return. Either way, the intellectual/arrogance seems to be blurring the fact that we are all here because we are all fans. The next OC hire may not drive off the masses, but it could break BK, and our spirit. Aside from him it could be the next long enduring timeline that we as fans must go through. It’s most frustrating because we know what we have in our team, but we may not get there yet once again. And, there’s Nothing, we can do about it. I personally don’t like seeing the negativity that would cause a long time poster to call it quits. Whether he will or not, I enjoy reading what he has to say.

There was a lot of talk of Moorhead being potentially unwilling to take a co-title (pure speculation). Any reason to think Monken would be cool with it?

No idea but I think he might be easier to convince. I feel like Moorhead is only coming if we install his offense. Monken might come in as more of an offensive mind. He took the Browns OC job without playcalling duties. So there is at least some recent precedent for it

Why would we not install his offense though? That’s the point of getting him isn’t it? His offense is better than what we have.

Pure speculation on my part but I think offensive continuity is being balanced with the available coach. I think ya gotta question how much ‘install’ you want to do this offseason versus tailor an offense to the veteran personnel and skill position talent. Hence you see some talking about Moorhead being a difficult fit even though he’s such a highly coveted coordinator.

So you keep harping on how bad the competition was that we played after Michigan but you realize NM and BG were part of the numbers that inflated the numbers for the first 7 games, right? New Mexico gave up over 30 points 9 times this year and over 40 5 times. And they didn't really play anyone good except ND.
BG gave up over 30 9 times and gave up over 40 7 times. Against terrible competition except ND.
Stanford gave up over 30 6 times and over 40 4 times. Against much better competition. Duke similar but only over 40 3 times. Navy had over 30 4 times and over 40 twice.
Point is that you keep saying we played the worst defenses over the last 6 games but you aren't considering that the 2 worst were in the first half of the year. Granted we also played the 2 best defenses in the first half of the season. The truth is somewhere in the middle.
On the flip side, how about that ND defense. They only had over 30 and 40 once and over 20 4 times. They allowed 20 or less 8 times this season.
Even if you just focus on the numbers, there is no way a ND fan who watched with their own eyes every single game could actually say they didn't notice a big difference in how the offense performed after the Michigan game. Or at least from the final drive of the VT game. There seemed to be a better compliment between passing and rushing in the last 6 games.

Yep and playing better teams decreases it. I've never understood the argument about building those numbers off of lesser teams. All teams do that, so the stats should be comparable. Second, they did what they were supposed to do, and that is have higher numbers against the lesser teams. The concern should be if the performance degraded against the lesser teams.
Koon is Koonja. He changed his name hoping we wouldn't realize he was the same guy, but we still love him.
I'm also surprised we have so many against Rees with nothing more than "he's never been an OC before" argument. We aren't in the film room, meetings, practice, etc. to know how sharp he really is, but he's in play, because he's impressed BK up to this point. Hiring a guy with experience isn't a guarantee of success. FB is lettered with coaches who had experience and failed.
I think it's safe to say BK is doing his due diligence.

Lucky is right. We recruit kids to fit the O or D. Installing a completely new offense would take a while to get the players comfortable with and to install. Given the success the last three years, it would be better to tinker with the current O which we saw in the last part of the season with more deep balls and getting Lenzy involved.

This is simply wrong. The cliff notes are we faced slightly worse passing defenses (69th vs 72nd based on passing yards allowed) and ND's YPA dropped from 8.3 to 7.6.

Of course I included all passing stats, why wouldn't I? Chip Long called the first 7 games, Book allegedly called the final 6. Does the back up throwing a few balls in a few games somehow not count.
Does this mean Tommy doesn't know what he's doing? No, his lack of experience is my number 1 concern.
But quit spinning this narrative that the passing game was "significantly better" once Rees allegedly started calling plays. That's far from conclusive. We literally just passed more, not better.

When measuring passing yards per attempt, yes, I used defensive rankings based on passing yards allowed... Keep in mind this isn't required to prove Lucci's statement of YPA "seeing a significant increase" false, but it's an appropriate benchmark to include.
Plus you don't even have it filtered correctly. #4 is ND, #6 is Missouri, etc.
