I remember the Davie years. He sounded good, but I think we all understood when the contract was up why it wasn’t renewed. He was never a sexy hire, but then you had the George O’Leary debacle followed by the lazy days of professional golfer Tyrone Willingham.

Forcing Lou out for that jabroni, Bob Davie, set the program back basically a decade.

Lou didn't have a lot left in the tank, but if he had stayed a little longer and the transition gone to someone else ... man, what might have been.

I seem to remember that Lou hired Bob based on Quentin Coryatt.
Lou was so impressed by Coryatt in the bowl game (#1 I think) that he wanted Davie there at ND to develop a defense like that.

Announcers were horrible then too, “by a half a yard!” as the Navy player steps out of bounds at the 3 yard line & heaves it further out of bounds…
No, he wasn’t a half yard from scoring. He was 3+ yards short.

Charlie Jones and Bob Trumpy, I think

For you Boob Davie fans.

Whew. I was a freshman at ND in '97, that season was a wild ride.

Bob's first year but we all still had the sense of hope/entitlement from the Lou era, the notion that every student at Notre Dame would see a national championship in their four years. It was our due. Reality smacked us in the face when we started the season 1-4, including an inexplicable loss at Purdue followed by a home ass-whooping by Michigan State, and we had to claw our way through the second half of the season just to get bowl eligible. Including that sloppy Navy game, demolishing LSU the next week in Baton Rouge and then storming the field after we beat West Virginia by a touchdown and get that key sixth win. All to go and lose to LSU in a rematch in the Shreveport Bowl.

The next four seasons went similarly. For all the bitching around here, things are so much better now.

Jamie U on ISD makes some really good points in his column today (its free!) . Some data about how incredibly weak their schedule is and how our offense has dominated them but the surprise point is their new look offense is very low nationally in time of possession, 97th if you pull out FCS Bucknell. This could be decisive. We could have three or four more possessions than usual.

Only time they've stopped us lately is when they went blitz heavy in the second half in 2022. Denbrock should be ready for that. How about those slants we executed well last week. It'll be man without safety help if they're blitzing.

Just a refresher on how much we dominated this team last year.
yeah but ND had a much better OL last year and much better passer playing QB. i just dont trust our offense this year to consistently go up and down the field on navy.

That's hand-picking the worst components of our offense. The passing game is a borderline wash given the wr position. We're scoring 3 points less per game than last year and we've played the best defenses we'll see. I don't trust the offense at this point either but the difference between this year and last isn't all that substantial.

Not suspicious for a first post at all....would you like my social security number, address, and first born son just to verify my identity prior to the transfer?

If you are legit I apologize but this just has bot/scam written all over it lol

This has blowout written all over it. Ranked Navy team - no way ND takes them lightly. They've relied on big plays all year - Golden won't allow that. Their defense can be had - Memphis put up over 600 yards. ND by 28

my wife got me a catholics vs conferences blue and gold shirt for my birthday yesterday. It’s going to be my shirt for the remainder of the season unless ND comes out and loses. I apologize to all my other superstitious brothers on here

And yes, NIU was the only game I watched away from home wearing a different ND shirt

NIU was the only game I missed this year. Wife wanted to go to the apple orchard and I figured the game was a gimmie.

It’s bad luck to be superstitious

The fact this is a home / day game means the ND game plan is to sleep through the first half I guess.

I would say that the OL was better overall last year, especially at the tackle position.
I'd say tackle was better in '23, not sure about interior though.

Schrauth was an immediate upgrade over Spindler. If he plays, which seems to be expected, that's an upgrade. If not, you still have a more experienced Spindler.

Pendleton beat out both Spindler and Coogan for the other guard spot.

Coogan isn't as good as Craig, but he's definitely a better center than Correll.
