There is no way in hell ND comes out flat in this one. I'm ready to butt heads with some SC cheaters and I'm a 5'8 ginger who doesn't play football.

How do you suppose Diaco will play Robert Woods? Besides the running game, he's the only thing that truly scares me about this team. (I think our run D is better than their run O).

Everyone knows he's good and he's still putting up Floyd-Esqe numbers.

Woods: 55 receptions, 747 yards and 6 TDs

Floyd: 53 receptions, 639 yards, and 4TDs.

I have nightmares about him gliding by Zeke for 6.

Blanton with Harrison over top and no way does their run offense scare me. They rank 86th in the nation in rushing yards. 158 attempts for 683 yards and a paltry 4.3 yrds/carry and 4 rushing TDs. They average 136.6 yards a game. Since they had a bye week, if I add in what they average, in jumps them to 62nd in the nation in rushing.

Not OVERTLY terrible but nothing like the Reggie Bush days. Our DL should handle the running game without a problem.

While I was looking, I saw ND is tied for 21st in the nation in rushing and 15th in passing and our total offense (Net Total Yards according to ESPN) ranks us 8th. Yards per game ranks us 20th.

USC is 52nd in total offense and

I know a lot of people think we're going to win by two scores but I think this game could be very close.

Teams with speed give us fits. USC has a lot of speed and skill at the WR position. Another minor weakness of NDs is our secondary. USC is 15th in passing offense according to espn.

Having said that, I still think that if you look at the team as a whole (we're stronger up front and have a more balanced offense) we should win this game 7 times out of 10. I just think it could be closer than some of us think, but then again I'm the negative guy so TIFWIW, lol.

Has S. Cal Improved

Has S. Cal Improved

My hunch is S. Cal has not improved much since last year. If it was not for Rees being inexperienced last year with the turnovers we would have won by a bigger score. I suspect S.Cal will try to attack the edges via runs and bubble screens knowing our secondary will play deep against the long pass. I know we all believe this year we are a much improved team then last year when we played S. Cal. I look for a repeat of the Michigan State game where we pressure the passer and stuff the run. But certainly do worry about Woods taking Gray long on go patterns.

Here's an improvement: Matt Barkley under center rather than Mitch Mustain.

We need Harrison Smith to have one of those 3 interception games...
Woods is are great reciever so i'll put blanton on him and be safe all game... Barkley is a great QB we need Lynch in his face that night.....

Barkley will shred our secondary apart. The passing game has me really worried. There needs to be serious improvement from our db's in the next 2 weeks

Barkley and Woods is a dangerous combo, but football games aren't won and lost by two guys. USC's OL is bad; they won't be able to run the ball on us, and they haven't been able to give Barkley more than a few seconds to throw on a regular basis. We'll have plenty of opportunities to tee up our pass rush like we did against MSU.

Woods is their only dangerous weapon; he's got 41% of their receptions and almost half of their receiving yards. Take him out of the game with S help and USC will struggle moving the ball.

Barkley is a huge upgrade from Mustain. But, we counter with Lynch, Tuitt and Nix adding elite depth to our d-line and taking pressure off our LBs and secondary.

There are differences in personnell on both sides of the ball and I don't really know how improved USC is, I haven't watched all their games.. I know ND has certainly improved, even within this season.

All I can say is that this game is not causing me the same anxiety it has for years. This ND team is different and I actually expect them to win.. to punish and dominate, instead of just keep it close.

The FBS teams Kelly has coached are 7-1 in games the week after a bye.

Read that on ESPN and couldn't help myself from smiling.

If we win this game, I'll go sprinting out in the roads and screaming to the heavens, thanking Bob Diaco for blessing us with a win. Although I live in the country and no one will hear me. Then I'll probably get mauled by a bear.

Not only would Diaco show up and save you, he'd get a verbal commitment from the bear to play DT.

LOL!!!! Hey, I'm gonna be down in Fort Myers for 2 weeks in january. We need to try to go grab a beer or 2 while me and my girl are down there.

The rumor on SC boards is that Barkley refused to watch game film until they digitally removed Aaron Lynch from the video.
