Brian Toal was a pretty big LB recruit out of New Jersey in the Willingham years. Ty was a lousy recruiter but the story was he went all-in on Toal right before Signing Day, spent hours in the kid’s living room and like wouldn’t leave. But Toal went to BC like he was always going to. His dad coached one of the big NJ Catholic schools and IIRC, never liked Notre Dame. And BC was pretty good in those days.
As spurns go, it was a big one. Toal wound up being a freshman All-American and Big East rookie of the year, though injuries eventually derailed his career.

So what you're saying is Ty was a smart recruiter?

Really hope we get TJJr to have another solid game tomorrow. As much as I've enjoyed watching Book put the team on his back the past few weeks, it would be nice to see the RBs share some of the load.

Also, wouldn't mind seeing more Jahmir Smith. Dude runs hard.

On the passing of Tip O'Neill, one of the great Speakers of the House, Rep Romano Louis Mazzoli, Kentucky, after some initial praise of O'Neill's character and abilities said:

"And then once, Mr Speaker, I was at Notre Dame, my alma mater, for - believe it or not - a Boston College game, one of the many times when the Irish beat the Eagles. They did not do it in 1993, when it cost the Irish the national championship. But I remember vividly coming out of Notre Dame Stadium at twilight at the end of an autumn afternoon. The Irish were behind but came back at half and beat the Eagles in a very tight game. When I came back, I could see this big, long limousine pulling up with big dark windows like you see in Beverly Hills or New York City and zoom, down go those windows, and out comes you see one Irish face and one Italian face. And it was Tip O'Neill and Sid Conte. And, of course, we all remember our late departed friend from another part of Massachusetts, Sid Conte. And we were talking and having so much fun, and I could see how much Tip enjoyed life. Even though the Eagles lost, Tip was having a great time." and added, "And it was really wonderful seeing those two fellows who were such great friends, different sides of the political spectrum, different sides of the aisle, different parts of Massachusetts, different vintage, different nationalities, but they had a commonality about them."

Source p. 48

O'Neill graduated from BC in 1936. Mazzoli graduated from Notre Dame in 1954. O'Neill received the Laetare Medal in 1980.

Offensive play-calling (considering they are not pulled in 4th because of blow-out):

Braden - minimum 5-6 targets (including sweep)
Kmet - Minimum 7-8 targets

The rest should be business as usual....

If not met on the minimum of these two

Memphis coach needs to go immediately....

BC cannot handle the middle and they have no speed on the corners.....

IMO only... these comments do not necessarily reflect the opinions of those on this board or those that support or coach the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team... All events on Saturday may be fictitious and the names have been changed to protect the innocent... except the poster's

If Meatchicken hadn’t happened, I’d breathe easy regarding the game tomorrow. ND should win but BC will likely give their best effort of the season so the Irish can’t afford turnovers or stupid penalties.

You know damn well their former walk-on QB will have the game of his life. I read where Dillon has broken 100 tackles this season so he’ll be a challenge to contain. I suspect ND will focus on stopping him & Bailey keeping their CBs on islands.

How great would it be to end the season w/ four comfortable, stress-free wins? 2 down, 2 to go.

No offense but, Meh....

Free Shoes U beat the hell out of BC and the BC defense behind the front 4 are really bad. IF...IF....IF the OC for the Irish is smart enough..... (pause, clear throat, wipe forehead)... the play-calling should include a tremendous amount of exposing the secondary and middle of the D.

I do agree with you on CBs... even Finke should have a stand-out day tomorrow...

Brian Toal went to Don Bosco, Ironman8's alma mater. Toal father Greg was the head coach at Bosco for 19 years winning 9 NJ Non-Public Group 4 Titles. I believe Bosco also won 2 National Titles under Toal. Before his stint at Don Bosco Toal also won State Championship's at River Dell and Hackensack.

Toal left Bosco in controversy. School said he resigned. He said he didn't. The school sent a letter out to student's parents noting his departure and mentioning some unspecified incidents in recent years that contributed to the separtion. I do recall a recruit who was tracked here but don't recall his name. He had either academic or demeanor issues which I believed characterized him as not a fit at UND.

After Toal left Bosco he ended up as an Assistant Coach at nearby Bergen Catholic, Bosco's historic arch-rival. The current BC HC Nunzio Campanile was a former assistant of Toal's. It also had Toal returning to his first coaching job as an Assistant Coach to BC's Tony Karcich 40 some years ago.

By disclosure, Bergen Catholic was my alma mater and Don Bosco still sucks.

Agree...Flutie is a cockoff…"the older I get the better I was". That's how he rolls. if I see him... I'll fight him. He can lick my balls after a bad interview, a filthy workout, a three hour sex session, a brutal session in the sex dungeon. BTW I fucking hate flutie and want to give him a fucking head-butt everytime I see him.

Going to a wedding at 2 -- a Catholic wedding.

If they were better Catholics they'd schedule better.

And there's no TV's at the reception... but I think there's a bar across the street.

Per II, Jacob Lacey is taking #2 reps at 3T and Franklin is #2 at NT, as Jayson A is limping very bad on his left ankle during pregame.
