We don't have the offense to keep up with that or the defense to slow that down.

Up until this week, BYU had yet to score more than 35 points in a game this season.

They've already eclipsed that in a HALF!

Make no mistake, Virginia's defense is beyond atrocious.

This is probably the toughest game remaining for Notre Dame on the schedule. First reason is it’s a road game and the last time ND played at UVA they barely escaped with a miracle win. SeconD reason is UVA’s offense is potent and Marcus Freeman doesn’t know what he is doing and is in over his head as the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame. And the final reason is ND has to deal with the triple option attack of Navy next week, while Virginia gets to rest up, have an extra week to game plan for Notre Dame during their bye week.

Virginia has put up 42 points in the first half at BYU.

I’m so sick and tired that the majority of opponents get bye weeks to prepare for Notre Dame. What is it like 7 or 8 teams this season have their bye week before they face Notre Dame…smh

It really is a testament to Kelly and the staff to have as many wins as we have given this fact, especially in a year many saw as a big transition.

Hope they can pull this out tonight. Would like to at least have a ranked match up to look forward to down the stretch.

Armstrong just took a shot to the ribs and is in a ton of pain. Headed to the locker room.

This game will be copy and paste of tonight's game.. Athletic QB that can run and throw. Going to be a tough game on the road

Luckily Virginia’s defense is bad…really really bad and possibly worse than North Carolina’s defense!

We'll see. I'm guessing he comes back for the game on the 13th

Dudes tough as nails.... With the bye week he'll be ready to go or at least that's what I'm expecting

It depends on the severity of the injury.

But if he broke his ribs as is suspected, I'd say there's almost no chance he plays. Even with a BYE week, that isn't enough time for broken ribs to heal. That is a 3 week process in the absolute best case scenario.

Toughness is one thing, but just because you can play doesn't mean you should. When Armstrong sustained the injury, he clearly couldn't throw the ball as he woefully underthrew his receiver on the play following the injury and had to leave the game.

This isn't like the injury Book sustained a few years ago when he took that shot vs Northwestern. That was bruising that he could play through and finish the game with. Even that needed him to sit out the following game. This injury appears to be far more severe.

FWIW the freshman they put in after Armstrong got hurt looked like the proverbial deer in the headlights. And that was vs a 3 man rush by BYU that would have made Marcus Freeman's look aggressive

no doubt, NDs offense has started to gel at just the right time (still cant believe that ND survived that five game stretch going 4-1). ND just has to do the same thing against UVA stay consistent on offense run the ball and find some way to get a couple stops and a turnover. UNC was the first team to break serve in the 1st half then again in the 2nd half.

For emphasis. If you had polled IE in August, offering each of us a 7-1 record after UNC, 99% of the us would have taken that in a heartbeat.

Our transitions at QB and OL haven't gone as smoothly as we'd hoped, but our opponents weren't as strong as we'd feared they be either. No one should feel the need to apologize for that.

1%er here! I had us going 12-0 now that Book was finally gone.

Article from yesterday.

I would doubt we'll hear anything related to the QB's injury before early next week. If I'm them I keep it close to the vest the best I can.

Sucks for the kid. He's from nearby here in Ohio and he was fun to watch. Was just hoping he was going to be less fun on November 13th.

I doubt it’s Gronkowski-level serious w/ broken ribs & punctured lung. My money is on “bruised ribs” or whatever the diagnosis is that is just short of broken ribs.

I agree. It’s weird to be afraid of this team. I blame Kelly for his “it’s tough to win” mantra. We have a knack for emulating the play of our opponents instead of going full throttle destruction.

yeah i miss lou holtz's underdog mentality and it's us against the world.

I can't find anything else confirming it, but apparently Fox reported that he broke 3 ribs.

That makes a lot more sense. If it was just bruising, he'd likely be able to play through it, similar to Book against Northwestern in '18. It'd hurt like absolute hell, but it's certainly possible. Armstrong couldn't even throw after taking that shot. Definitely looked like he broke something. His injury looked much more severe than Book's.

If it's broken as reported, I don't see any chance he plays against ND. They need him at least somewhat healthy, and bringing him back way too early for a non-conference game just isn't smart. Not to mention, having those cracked ribs limits both his ability to make plays in the run game and his ability to throw deep balls.
