....the rest of the story is:
1. gave up UT tix cuz I had a "bad" feeling (my daughter went, she's a UT grad)
2.sold MSU and Stanford tix early in season when I knew I couldn't go, and make good $$
3. was given 2 UM tix 10 minutes before game start
4. turned down USC tix
5. taking 3 clients to VT game who love the ND game atmosphere
6. gave 2 Army tix to an Army officer today(friend of a friend). He actually played for Army vs ND in the 90's. Said it was a game in which Army scored late, went for 2 to win, and were denied (had to be Davey or Willingham era).
7. only bowling on my horizon is Super Bowl with Cowboys

The Play known as "The Tackle" also known as the $8 Million Tackle as it sent ND to the Orange Bowl.

With Army trailing by one point with 39 seconds to play in the game, Army went for a two point conversion. Army QB hit their 6-3, 240 TE (Lewshinski?) at the one yard line. Much maligned backup CB Ivory Covington, 5-10, 160 came out of the end zone and hit the TE outweighing him by 80 pounds shoulder high and drove him backwards for a one point Irish win.

The ND coach was Lou Holtz. Holtz saved from a loss to lowly Army by a backup, ridiculed grossly outweighed CB.

Kelly should have been showing this clip to Irish players all season. Hit, wrap, and drive!

I'm wrong.
In '95 ND shredded #5 Southern Cal 38-10, the week AFTER beating Army on the Covington Tackle It was in October as it was played in South Bend. Three weeks after beating USC, ND's final game was against Air Force NOT Army as I had previously posted.

ND lost 2 regular season games. The Opener against NW when the center stepped backward on Paulus' foot knocking him down at NW's two yard line as time expired with ND trailing by two. The other loss was a 20 point beating by OSU in Columbus. That set the stage for Covington's game saving tackle against ND. A loss to Army would have sent ND to a minor bowl.
