This is the issue. You can’t give up pressures on the blind side on a whopping 20% of your drop backs… that’s an insane number, especially with our quick passing game. Top tackles are usually less than 5%, Joe Alt was 1.4%.

So if you can’t play Tosh outside I don’t see an option except playing Jagusah there and praying Rocco or Pendleton can get it done at RG.

We're damned if you do or don't with where you put jagusah.

He's our best option at guard and tackle. Pendleton is atrocious at guard. But unfortunately Spindler being questionable leaves you with few options.

I can't understand how Baker is so bad in pass pro. As a high school prospect he was a good looking athlete and now just seems to have lost it all

One difference in this game, though, is that JT Tuimoleau is not the twitchiest guy in the world, so that may give Baker somewhat of a break, but JTT is a real good technician who would give him (or Jagusah) fits.

That being said, Tosh Baker at LT is not at all comforting.

Yeaaaa this was the game I watched. I’ve seen some, umm, overly positive spin on Baker’s ability the last couple of days. Unless the next week is when things finally click for him, be prepared for multiple sacks allowed from him.

What about Lambert? Slot him at Guard or Tackle Jagusah the other he can’t be that bad he is 6’7 was a 5 star on some sites or what about Sullivan Absher at Gaurd

JT hurt his ankle in the game against Texas so he isn’t gonna be 100%

No info, but I have blind faith that Spindler will be ready to go by next Monday.

Questionable generally means "maybe ready if all goes well", and I just don't believe that a senior offensive lineman isn't going to do whatever he needs to physically to play in a National Championship. Unless the "questionable" designation is just gamesmanship by the coaching staff, there is no level of pain or discomfort that would keep Spindler off the field for 4 quarters.

They can't rely on Tosh in the NC. He's just not quick enough.

They have other young guys on the roster. This is not August. For example, Lambert has been in the system for 9 months. Absher for close to 2 years.

Would you do this if you had a choice? You would not. But Tosh is not a legit option.

And you have to spend this week practicing with the young guys. We all know that Tosh can jump in and do what he does if the young guy gets overwhelmed.. The week is not going to make a big enough difference with him.

I’m just not sure how you ask one of these other kids to get their first start, and first real play time, in the Natty?!?

Yes and no. My thoughts are they prepared CJ for G given Rocco has been battling injury. They thought Knapp plus Baker was better that Knapp plus CJ with someone like Pendleton behind Rocco. In essence, it was more likely Rocco went down than anyone else.

That’s probably fair. I just don’t know if Jagusah is ready to play OT again yet. So the follow up would be Jagusah might actually be better than (hurt) Spindler at OG you essentially are “good” at 4/5 spots. If Jagusah struggles at LT and a hurt Spindler struggles at RG you are weak on both sides and 2 out of 5 spots

No, they couldn't, because Jagusah was already playing guard. If Spindler can play, then Jagusah at LT and Spindler at RG seems better than Baker at LT and Jagusah at RG.

Jagusah hasn’t played OT in 5 months and has (1) game of experience there. It’s not that easy

I would hear out Lambert with a week of prep is better than Baker then just oh yeah play Jagusah there like that isn’t a massive risk. Lambert has about the same amount of practice at OT in his career, isn’t just off injury and isn’t a possible RG next Monday

Not necessarily. Baker - the only option with game experience - may have been the best option when you needed someone to step in and play in the middle of a must-win game. But given 10 days you might feel like Lambert or Jagusah, both of whom likely have superior athleticism to Baker, could put together a better game against an elite pass rusher like JTT.

Exactly. It's a gamble on a healthy Baker and CJ, or CJ and a potentially healthy Rocco. In the end, it comes down to whether or not you have more faith in Pendelton or Baker.

I know Pendleton lost his job during the season but I don’t know why. Was he that bad or was a healthy Shrauth and improved Spindler a better combination of guards?

Yeah I agree. Lotta rose colored glasses with baker. Did he have some good plays. Yes but 5 pressures. Yikes

I wonder what they don’t see in Guerdy that he can’t beat out baker on the depth chart

Not true, you often insert the most experienced guy when there is an injury because they have had the most time preparing for this situation and it's the least disruption to the other players. If they don't perform -- and you have time to get a "better" guy ready to go, but it means moving other pieces or making a scheme adjustment -- then you can do that. Happens quite frequently with QBs and position players of all sorts in the NFL.

He was our lowest graded player by a country mile by PFF. Grade of 41. Tough assignment no doubt, but that performance is bottom tier by pretty much every metric.
