if there's one position that I am most fine getting in the portal year after year, its WR

But I want to get dogs in the portal, if we do it.
Paying insane money for a project like Meadows is crazy to me.
Think about how much money could have been lost on Tobias, Jordan Johnson, etc - even guys like Cam Williams are not "for sure" things.

Some positions I think plug and play better, and WR is one of them

They need dudes with multiple years of eligibility left. It can't just be guys with 1 year left.

We aren’t paying market rate for HS WRs and don’t have an attractive offense to WRs. It’s that simple, goes way beyond the WR coach, and it isn’t going to change unless there are other structural changes.
This is where I'm at how much do you really blame Mike Brown for? We are heavily a running football team. We brought in Hartman last year who was known for being one of the best passing QB's in college he threw for 4200 yards in 2021 with Wake and 3701 yards in 2022 with Wake he only threw for 2689 last year for us on 301 attempts. He had 200 and 100 more attemps in both 2021 and 2022 at Wake. High profile WR don't want to come here and get 300-400 yards a year and 2-3 passes a game and then have to block. They want to play in a high octane passing offense. Only way this changes if you come out next year with Carr and let him throw for 3500 yards which I don't see happening.

Del's dudes used to block well down field too. I am at the point where I just do not like seeing #5 for ND on the field. But it's obvious he's going to be so is what it is

For all the talk about how IU’s receivers would play at ND, the best receiver on the field was Jordan Faison and no one outside of Sarratt did anything of significance before garbage time
If Sarratt entered the portal, he’s a guy I’d take a look at. Omar Cooper, too. We actually did offer Cooper late—out of HS at Larry North in Indy.

USC was undoubtedly the best WRs we faced this year, followed by Louisville. Georgia Tech’s were also likely better but QB held them back.

In watching IU a few times this year I agree with Sarratt. Right before Freeman met with Cigaretti at midfield he had a short discussion with Sarratt. Kinda hope it was tampering

I’d through Stanford in there as well, but their QB situation held them back. UVA too, Chris Tyree went from nearly 500 yards at ND to 136 this year. More talent at wideout than the ability to get them the ball.

The good news is we won’t play a more talent group of WR’s until the championship

I definitely thought this was a bump of someone fretting Ohio State was coming for him. But it was Tommy Rees all along!

His group definitely showed out during the CFP. His ability to put a good product on the field appears to be better than his recruiting abilities.

So far it looks like I’ll be eating crow.

Jesus can our coaching staff be left alone for 1 second? Some I understand but Mike Brown? He was not on my list of coaches to worry about.

The report above makes me feel a lot better about Brown moving forward. I was indifferent because I know so little about him but if the league is trying to bring him on as a position coach, he must be an excellent teacher and capable of interacting with other coaches.

I'm more worried about his recruiting abilities than his coaching. Also the Browns coaching staff coming after someone shouldn't reassure you..........ever.

I think we'll see how good of a recruiter Mike Brown is this year. Had the full year to develop relationships, get Notre Dame, and we have some actual tape of WR's making plays (mostly in the playoffs) to sell recruits on.

If we show any semblance of a passing game this year I think we'll bring in a really solid receiver class.

Since there's so much "the sky is falling on ND" sentiment going around today, I thought I would join in and just make sure there's no reason that we think Mike Brown would ever be added to this target list for the new OR WR Coach -- Right? They do have the big $s

Not sounding the alarm just yet, but should we be worried about another WR meltdown for '26 recruiting? I know some of the recent targets choosing elsewhere in the last few days were WRs ND didn't have great traction with, and that's fine but then who else is Mike Brown targeting other than the two mentioned here (Kaydon Finley and Brayden Robinson)? Does MB have a plan and process that includes solid backfills with WR recruiting losses? Full disclosure, I'm not following WR recruiting in detail but I have seen the recent WR recruiting losses and trend aways (Mosley), and am worried about our WR recruiting abilities for '26 and beyond at this point. The Notre Dame wide receiver recruiting blunders continue, and it’s getting dangerously close to having a much deeper conversation

Mike and Jamie didn't talk about it today on Power Hour, but I know they have concerns. A lot of people mentioned Brown in the chat and Mike Frank's mood changed and he said he'd talk about WR recruiting at another time. Jamie and Greg have repeatedly said that very few WR recruits talk about Brown and he didn't get a lot of blue-chip 2026 WR's on campus during the season, which is concerning. Per ISD, it's not that Brown doesn't put much effort into recruiting like Al Golden, apparently he's just not very good at it. They get their info from Christian and Matt, who are more plugged in on the recruiting front and actually talk to the recruits. A few months ago ISD said that ND was only seriously in on 4-5 WR's in the 2026 class. There's still time, but considering that Brown butchered the WR board last year and isn't the best recruiter, it looks like he's playing with fire if ISD is correct that the board is small.

I know O'Malley has issues with Brown's recruiting given some of the comments he has made on the II podcast since last summer. He firmly believes that every WR in the 2024 class (Gilbert, Saldate, Williams) have to hit or ND is going to be in trouble, as he's not high on the 2025 WR's they signed.
