Do we really think Hoke's gonna go sit on the beach for a year? Or he could be DL/Recruiting Coordinator and next in line for DC when BVG inevitably departs.

As of right now? Yes, but just because he said that he was going to sit out. That being said, I wonder what he would have said if it was the DC job, not just DL coach. I think you hit the nail on the head there.

Seeing that Hoke is not probable for the Irish, I wonder if Kelly has looked at Sean Spencer? He was here at Vandy for a while and has dealt with the type of academic-kids.

My god...I was almost....ALMOST coming around to the idea of Hoke as a position coach, but mostly for the entertainment value. Hoke for DC? This is going too far, that's one step from HC! Too much Hoke love on here recently.

Except that Hoke gets rave reviews as a position coach and is known as a really good recruiter. Sure, he struggled as HC at a big time school but that doesn't mean he's not a good position coach or recruiter. Again, as with Charlie Weis, a better position coach/coordinator then a guy who runs an entire program.

I agree with that but,... he and ND have both stated ND is not for him. So why keep bringing him up as a candidate?

I suppose it could work if they find a way to get him to wear a headset and he isn't allowed to talk to the media  You know he'll open his mouth and say some stupid shit.

Saying something publicly is one thing, what is discussed behind the scenes is another. Legit people out there said there was juice to it and there was a reason why Hoke had to publicly deny it. Not saying it will happen but you can't dismiss it entirely.

They are making room on the DL, no? Doesn't mean its for Hoke but its not out of the question.

Yes, they are making room. It would just seem tremendously odd that ND would go back after repeatedly reporting Hoke is not a candidate. Sure, things change and people change their minds.

But?!?..... the last year's events at ND and how they have handled everything.... who knows...you very well could be right..... I digress.....

Hoke did say that "we" would like to go back to coaching someday(the context led me to believe that we was him and his wife), but he also said that "we" are taking a year off and heading south. I wouldn't put any faith in Hoke coming on board for the 2015 season.

If you're going with homerun hires, like Sanford, I'd throw a big offer at Craig Kuligowski the Missouri D-line coach. He almost left for a co-Defensive coordinator title at Illinois. I'd have to imagine the DL/Co-DCrole at ND could sway him if the money's right.

Again, this is assuming there's even an opening.

He really is a great position coach. I had the opportunity to learn from him when he was the DL at Michigan and he was the best I had seen. First class guy too.

I'm not saying nor putting faith in Hoke coming aboard. In fact, if I had to bet, I would bet against it. All I'm saying is that to outright dismiss him is simply misguided and that until the position is actually filled, you just never know for several reasons.

When did ND ever report Hoke wasn't a candidate?

Last week watching CBS Sports Network Hoke saying I'm not going to South Bend and the reporter saying Brian Kelly had said he would like to have him on staff but, Hoke didn't want to go to ND. Then later in the broadcast the report read from the Chicago Tribune saying Irish had no interest at this time.

It was last Tuesday or Wednesday I was watching the show.

With Alford jumping to O$U, who knows - anything can happen. I agree with you that Hoke's probability to jump on as DL coach is slim at best.

You two have zero real reasons why you wouldn't want Hoke. You don't like him because he coached Michigan and is bad in front of a camera. Past that, you two have nothing tangible to hang your hat on.

His coordinator resume is impeccable.

I've read it a few times on here, but what is the basis behind the notion that ND doesn't pay its assistant coaches well? I find that hard to believe.

Because he literally recruits the kids closest to campus and does a poor job with communication. A lot of what Elston gets or has gotten credit for isn't because of hard work, whether that be on the phone or road.

I understand that. What I'm saying is he may not be asked to recruit now, but focus more on the coordinating, which if that's the case makes his history of recruiting irrelevant. If he continues to recruit, then the extra duty as RC will not be a good thing.

I read somewhere Martin was offered $650,000 a year from Kelly before he went to Miami (OH).... as a reference, I think Lane Kiffin makes about that.

He took a pay cut to go to Miami Ohio from what he was making at ND

Regarding RB coach...II thinks McCullough just interviewed with ND very recently, heard a lot about him lately around ND in a positive way.

I am not against McCullough, but I would really hate for us to pass on Autry Denson.
