Nice use of the phrase "anal hemmorage". Not everyday you can work that in to a sentence. Kudos to you sir!

frank's red hot is great stuff... Crystal hot sauce is the bomb too, nice to see them back on teh shelves (couldn't find them for about two fullyears after Katrina) I also damn near drink Tapatito (fortune 500 hot sauce btw) but when you grow up in socal you are exposed to so much more hot than the rest of the country I have learned.... my home made salsa (pico and verde) is not that hot to me, yet my out of state in laws can't get past the first bit of heat enough to speak of the flavor........ cracks me up, mid west and eastern pussies

Well Detroit won and made it look relatively easy. They are one of if not the best organization in sports.

I have found the easiest sport to teach a novice woman about is Hockey by far... very easy to pick up and if they give it an honest try they seem to really like it over other sports. Maybe it's the old school tuff guy thing or the fast paced nature or the fact that comared to basketball, football and especially baseball it's not that complex... what you see is what you get.

Wow, I've had the exact opposite experience: line changes, puck size, and the secret language of the Ref all seem to be unhittable curve balls for the novice fan. Not to mention that almost every single American has had at least some experience with that jumpy up and down sport, football, and baseball while hockey is a relative unknown.

On a side note, I'm sorry Washington lost as I love the city and the players on the team, but I'm very very impressed with Halak and his Canadians right now. Especially Halak. While its a little early to start calling him Roy or Dryden that was probably the greatest stretch of playoff goaltending since Giguere stood on his head and forced me to buy new equipment (even further to the side note: I actually got it for free, so I was kind of pumped that the rule changes could be used as an excuse for the school to buy me new gear).

I love hockey. Bring on round 2.

eh, trying to explain the game within the game in baseball or the far too many interruptive rules in BBall and Football I have found to be harder than saying, "you move more and get hit more in hockey than any other sport so they change players whenever possible... watch for that... the puck can't cross the red line until all attacking players are behind it and we'll cover the different pentalties as they come... now enjoy the hitting."

but that's just me...

That is almost word for word what I said to my wife when I first introduced her to hockey. She now understands the game and the penalties. I still remember the first time we were at a game and I heard her call out about a cross check that wasn't called on the ice. She was even aware that was a situation where our enforcer needed to exact some justice given the ref's oversight. She knows the reasons for fighting and the types of situations where players will or will not fight.

We have season tickets to the Kings and she hardly misses a game. She is hooked. She tolerates it when I watch basketball on TV, but she truly appreciates and understands hockey. I think women that are able to take the time to learn about hockey tend to get passionate about it more than other sports.

My wife has been to one game ever, Kings/Avs, last game before the Olympic break this season, and has only watched maybe 20 games total....... but she already has the whole damn sport down... she says stuff like "bad trunover there", or "man that was a clunky looking power play"... just on her own and it always fits the circumstance... and I can say fairly that 7/10 she now can call out the pent. before it is stated out loud by the ref... A couple of girlfriends in college were the same way, (you'd be happy to know all became Kings fans and I know for a fact one is still a diehard today as we are still in semi contact) It just seems like women who give all sports a fair chance tend to go towards Hockey. Lucky for me my wife likes Baseball a lot too... to me Hockey is the most exciting sport... Baseball is the most layered and flat out best sport...

cfb is just a passion in and of itself and nothing matters more than Notre Dame... but football as a sport is prob. a distant third for me.

I am right there with you. When my wife really gets in to a hockey game, it is a lot of fun. And the fact that it is something we can share together is really awesome too.

Have you seen the documentary "Pond Hockey"? If you haven't had the chance to see it yet, I suggest you buy it. Its an amazing look in to hockey from a different perspective. Growing up in SoCal, I never really was exposed to Pond Hockey, but it is really fascinating.

I am glad you know so many Kings fans - especially of the female variety.

I love Notre Dame football in and of itself, but I really don't watch too much football if the Irish aren't playing. But hockey, I will watch any hockey anytime.

I'm still so shocked and upset that the capitals are out. What a let down to u caps fans. They can't win a game seven and seem to always freeze in the playoffs. I will continue to watch the rest of the playoffs and just hope for some good games and series.

I think one of the things that is poorly communicated by hockey analysts and is rarely understood by even hockey players is the complexity involved in playing goal at a really high level. If the Pitcher-Batter contest is like a game of chess within the game of baseball, playing goalie is kind of like playing speed chess against 5 different players at once. I literally have a book shelf dedicated to different publications discussing the art/science/athletic test of playing goal. For example, Halak was sitting back in his net on Staal's goal in game 1, and the announcers rightly jumped on him for it. But, due to the nature of hockey, they didn't have time to explain why Halak might have chosen the position he did: it depends on where every player is on the ice, defensive coverage, relative danger of a pass or deke versus shot, balancing getting to the angle versus getting to depth, the goalie's own faith in his movement speed, as well as pure instinct.

Then you have to break down why Halak "chose" to go down in response to the shot, why he went down the way he did, did he try to react to the shot or just try to block, and so on. And this sort of rapid fire decision making goes on every second the puck is in the attacking zone, not just on shots or goals. And just like in Baseball, sometimes the tender can do everything right and still be beat by a great shot (pitcher throwing a perfect pitch and the batter knocks it out of the park.) Then the goalie has about ten seconds to process everything that happened and completely forget about it.

Obviously, every player in every sport makes a series of small decisions. But I believe that nothing comes close to the mental battle goalies have to fight against themselves and the other team every step of the way. And this is why, to me, hockey is not only the most exciting game, but the best damn game on earth. But I do see what your saying about baseball, and I would probably agree if I hadn't grown up playing tender.

Hey ACamp - what's up with your Penguins? 1-1 at the end of 1. C'mon! You can't let the Habs get that kind of confidence.

ACamp - Please respond so that I know you have come in from the ledge.

In the meantime, how much are you missing Hal Gill right about now? I really wished the Kings had brought him in instead of Scuderi. Scuds was a good acquisition, but Gill is just such a presence in front of the net.

I will speak for ACamp since he may have jumped off a bridge. Montreal is a good team. You dont beat the Caps and win 3 at the Verizon Center in the process if you arent any good.

I am hardly guaranteeing a Pens win in this series, but for some fans to give up is just ridiculous. Its 1-1. Its a race to 4. Montreal didnt win the series yesterday, unless I am missing something.

As far as Scuds vs Gill, you got the better player, trust me.

I was not knocking Scuderi. The one thing the Kings were missing this year was that heavy physical presence in front of the net. Gill is such a force there. I think Scuds is definitely the better overall player, but I thought the physicality was really lacking from the Kings d-men this year on a consistent basis. Even if you just look at the Vancouver series, the Kings were beat on shots that were second and third chances because they couldn't seem to clear the other team from in front of the net.

Scuderi is much more versatile and he was an awesome mentor for Doughty this year. The balance he brings allowed Doughty to be a little more creative on the ice. Scuderi is a great addition, don't get me wrong and you have seen the Pens play a lot more than I have, so you are better equipped to compare the two. I have jus always loved the game Gill brings.

You bring up good points about Gill's ability to clear the front of the net
