These events have gone off without a hitch for a number of years, I'm sure a number of athletes have beliefs that line up with Provo but they still go on with it. He's not endorsing shit, he's just wearing a jersey for a warmup and the team auctions it off. If he was a captain maybe there is an argument for endorsing it.

Yeah 100%, that is a very believable take.
Idk, I've never been to a Pride Night game.

Regardless, it is absolutely an endorsement. People werent mad the Flyers couldn't auction off a Pride Provo jersey. Now ask why they would be mad....

Never have I.

People are mad because he hid behind "religion" like a giant piss baby. He didn't have the stomach to actually own up to why he didn't go out there. The NHL media has the memory of a gnat so it's not like this story will past the weekend. Half of them couldn't be bothered to cover the numerous Hockey Canada sexual assault scandals or how John Vanbiesbrouck is the GM of the US Olympic team after dropping the N word in 2003, Russian players regularly hanging out and hob knobing with Putin etc. HoCkEy Is 4 EvErYonE!1

Typical good ol’ boys network.

Anyways. It’s been reported for a while Provorov is not well liked in the locker room, he’s immature and just not a leader. The organization has been frustrated with him for a while. Hopefully we are in the final months of him being a flyer.

I wonder why he didn't tell everyone the "real" reason.

I'm confused. Earlier you posted that he lives with his girlfriend. So I'm assuming the implication there is that he doesn't take his religion sufficiently serious to justify not wearing the jersey and the real reason is he is bigoted towards the community*. But applying a high burden on someone for that seems kinda silly. If your Catholic friend refuses to eat meat on Fridays but bangs his girlfriend, is he sufficiently Catholic to justify not wearing the jersey? If a Muslim guy enjoys drinking, is he Muslim enough? Should my Jewish friends be required to wear a Free Palestine jersey even though they don't keep Shabbas? Are they "hiding" behind their faith? or are they people of varying devotion making perfectly reasonable decisions?

I don't know the guy. Maybe he sucks. And maybe he genuinely is "hiding."

*The gay, lesbian, and bisexuals would do well to remove themselves from what it has turned into now.

Those decisions on whether to eat/drink whatever they want impact that person directly, participating in a community event that is promoting inclusive behavior is not something that personally impacts that person. From my experience people that aren't really religious but still participate in things that are of a certain religion do not do those activities because of religion, but for tradition or preference purposes.

So Muslims and Christians are required to don the flag. And the Jews can be compelled to support Palestine. Got it. Thats not gonna result in any backlash whatsoever.

The decision whether to wear a rainbow jersey also impacts that person directly. Participating in a "community event promoting inclusive behavior" absolutely impacts that person, they are participating in it! No one is more impacted, frankly, than that person. As they were compelled to promote something they do not support, whether for religious, traditional, or personal preference. All of which are commonly intertwined in one fashion or another.

Thank goodness he's the only religious person in the league, otherwise we would see a lot of push back from this gargantuan ask for this community outreach event. Would be wild if we found out if anyone in Flyers org was religious, if so they should be excommunicated.

Would be wild if someone had an Eastern Orthodox night and someone didn't wear their cross? Right?

Oddly enough, the Penguins did a night after the synagogue shooting showing support for the Jewish community where all the players wore a patch. If someone said "nah" I'm sure everyone here would support that lmao.

Have you ever heard what they do at Jewish weddings? As a man of strong convictions and faith, surely you wouldn't partake in one of their customs?

That's beside the point - if they held an Eastern Orthodox night then I would expect the team to do something to support them, whatever that may be.

Wearing a patch for victims of a shooting is very very very very different than supporting Pride. The former says "hey we are thinking of the victims and their families" while the latter says "I support what Pride stands for."

If the Jews do something at their weddings I'm uncomfortable with, then no, I'm not going to participate in that portion. The Jews I'm close with will understand.

This is not true, there are brothers on the Flyers who I skate with in the summer , and they love Provo.

What? It was literally a rainbow jersey for a warm up skate lmao. I mean if you (not necessarily you) are afraid of the big bad pride cause, then that person needs to seek professional help immediately. The whole event was literally a small stunt to say "hey sorry your community gets shit on regularly". Unsurprisingly some bald fat chuds think it's some sort of great afront to their deep religious beliefs or, they just are scared of gay folks.

It's literally just a hat, if you make the wedding about you on someone else's day then that's a dick move IMO.
There are Muslim players in the league, would you be big mad if they chose not to?
Funny enough, Kadri participated in the March 6th 2022 pride night with the Avs...so? Also "big mad" isn't even close, you can see in this thread how big mad many are that people called Provorov a clown instead of the reverse.

A certain portion of the population cannot cope with different thoughts. . If you do not agree with it, you are a bigot that must be crushed or canceled. The dude caused no harm, just butthurt feelings.

You are making my point! Kadri made a choice, so did Provo.

One of my besties is gay as the day is long. He is a hockey player mind you. I asked him his opinion on this, and he said "lol, who gives a shit, 99% of the people getting mad aren't gay" It literally doesn't register w/ most in the community.

He can make the choice and he can be criticized for making it? He isn't above criticism lol.

Potentially huge trade between StL and NYR today,… Tarasenko to NY feels huge if he can stay healthy through the playoffs

With Panarin to set him up, that gives the Rangers another weapon on the outside. NY also has two firsts so losing one won't hurt them too much. It's a fairly hefty price to pay for Tarasenko but if a setup man was what he was lacking in St. Louis, this gamble might payoff big time.

I know there are health concerns, but I think that is a steal for the Rangers.

The Quick trade caught me super off guard,… apparently JQ was too. Reports are he’s pissed and the Kings roster is not happy
