At first glance I thought we overpaid considering the draft picks but the draft isn't supposed to be deep this year and MSL is a premiere player. So I like it.

Edit: Welp nevermind. The first rounder is 2015 which is a deep class. Probably overpaid but I think the Rangers are a serious contender now (if they weren't already).

The 2014 2nd turns into a 1st if the Rangers make it to the conference finals.

Amazing how big of a bitch St. Louis was through all this. You turn an olympic snub into this, and then say the only team you'll waive for is the Rangers. Now he's hiding behind his wife and kids. Lol.

Rangers were down 2-0 and scored 2 shorthanded goals just now to tie it. Not sure if I've ever seen two on the same power play.

Who do people think are the favorites post trade deadline??

I'm afraid the Blues might still be a scorer or at least a 2nd line center away still.

I think the Bruins are definitely the best team in the East. Not sure in the West, but it's not the Blackhawks.

2nd time this has happened to the Leafs recently.

The Rangers are serious contenders with MSL and the Hawks aren't a favorite out of the west?

C'mon. Toews, Keith, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, etc. are still on the roster. Crawford is a cup winning goalie. They are certainly a favorite/contender.

Like the blues, the hawks could have used a second line center but they'll be fine if Bickell heats up again. Blues and hawks, IMO, are the teams to beat in the west. The east is tough to call, but I'd have to agree with you at this point, it'll probably be the Bruins.

There's a difference between being a contender and being the favorite. I consider one team the favorite while there can be multiple contenders. The Blues and Ducks are the two best teams out West and I don't even think it's close. I think the Sharks are just as good, too. Just going off my eye test.

West scares me a lot more than the East as well.

Anaheim, St. Louis, and Chicago are for real this year. San Jose and Colorado are toss ups, but they haven't convinced me they're as good as the previous three.

Pittsburgh and Boston are the teams to best in the East.

They're the top scoring team in the league and a top ten in goals against. They're awful in overtime/shoot outs but that won't matter in the playoffs.

Overtime might matter quite a bit. There were 27 overtime games last years playoffs, one shy of the all-time record. Then again you guys did win it all last year.

Different format, though. It'll be 5 on 5 without a shootout. The shootout has killed them all year.

If I did my research correctly, the Hawks are 0-6 in games decided in OT (that did not go to the shootout). Might say something about their conditioning, which would be applicable to the playoffs.

That sounds about right. You could be right about the conditioning playing a factor, GK. I think it's more to do with the 4 on 4 OT format in the regular season, something they won't have to worry about in the playoffs.

Wait, the playoffs are moving to this?? Honestly? I totally missed that... and hate it.
