IDK... it'd be like Texas trying to leave the union four or five times and then renaming the Cowboys the "Americens"... looking too far into it?? probably... still laugh at it... they should just change the name to 'habitants' and be done with it.

Montreal was probably a major reason they actually stayed in Canada. Levesque basically blamed all the immigrants in Montreal for ruining the chance at separation. If the Canadiens were in Quebec and not Montreal it would be much more ironic. It was actually an American who first called them the habs but the H in the logo stands for hockey not Habitant.

I also love watching Montreal lose and hate Subban more than any other player in the NHL. He picks his spots to act tough. He was scared shitless of Ference when he went after him.

I don't get how it can't be a real rivalry until a playoff series... oh well.

Playing only in regular season games doesn't get the ire up between teams and fans as much as the playoffs do. I still have such disdain for the Maple Leafs that dates back to the playoffs during the Gretzky years.

I am really looking forward to the new playoff format when the Western Conference Quarterfinals will be within the Division. That will really forge some hatred between Divisional opponents.

I read on twitter that since they went up 2-0 on Boston in the finals they are like 2-11 in the playoffs and have been outscored 44-22

Actually, historically the first Canadians were the French settlers. There is a reason that Quebec is not separated and will never be. It is not how most of the population feel about Canada. Most people are very proud to be Canadian. There is a great disinterest regarding politics in the province as a whole. All the parties are terrible anyways.
Regarding the habs, they are one of the major reason why the Nordiques left in the first place. A lot of older folks still hate them or at least would not cheer for them in Quebec City. Hopefully, we can get a damn team back. It's a guarantee sell out every night. Pretty stupid that we don't already.

Yeah, a lot of people aren't. I know. I just remember when the first rounds of the playoffs were divisional playoffs. It was really exciting in '93 when the Kings won the Smythe Division playoffs and then advanced to the Conference. Really brewed a lot of hatred between divisional opponents and usually spilled over to the first game of the next regular season.

Well, I never made it very far. Played Midget AAA for 2 years in Quebec. Went to prep school in New England, and then came back to Quebec after I got a DUI. Couldn't really play D1 college hockey after that. Came back to play juniors in Quebec and ripped my right shoulder apart. That was it. I just meant that through the years I played with or against a lot of these guys. All this to say that Datsyuk is absolutely incredible.

Penner was a beast last night. He should really be kept in a glass case in the locker room with a sign that says, "Break glass in case of PLAYOFFS". He is such a sloth during the regular season and then just turns it on in the postseason.

This has been a really fun series to watch. Very exciting! Definitely two very good teams going toe to toe. I hope the Kings can find a way to win on the road tomorrow night.
