There was nearly an identical "crosscheck" that happened to a Capitals player falling down and there was no call... much less a 5 minute major and game misconduct. But because Crybaby Crosby was the one that got bumped in the head, the NHL is going to give him the princess treatment he deserves.

Both feet planted, doesn't bring his stick above his nipples, minimal force put into the movement.

If he had actually wanted to head hunt Crosby, the play would've looked COMPLETELY different.

1. When he does dirty stuff, he gets away with it.
2. He cries more than any player in the NHL.
3. He gets more calls than any player in the NHL in large part because of his crybaby, flopping style.

So when he gets hurt because he couldn't stay on his feet and fell over into someone's stick... and then that player gets a ludicrous game misconduct... that's the reaction you're going to get.

The gymnastics some Pens fans are going through to act like Niskanen... a former Penguin... was intentionally trying to hurt Crosby there is insane. If he was doing that he would've launched with full force into his head. There have been literally dozens of hits in this game with more force than that Niskanen hit. Dozens. So why didn't he light him up if the intent was to hurt him? He obviously didn't expect Crosby's head to be at belly level.

He embellishes contact like crazy. Every high stick he's flailing around like he got shot, every slash he's screaming and crying to the refs, every time someone gets a stick near his legs he swan dives. There's a reason people hate him more than any other major NHL star and it's because of how he plays the game.

I don't want to keep shitting on Crosby if he's your boy, but you know he has a reputation among all other NHL fanbases for a reason.

Anyway, they hate Crosby for the same reason they hate LeBron, or dare I?..... ACamp: When you're joking and when you're serious is hard to distinguish sometimes (hyperbole and sarcasm). Not sure how to change that in this medium.

As for my take, (disclaimer: Pens fan): It is what it is; hockey. Did he get hit twice in that clip? Yup. It that probably a product of a desire to "show him some caps love" AND some incidental contact in the crease? Yeah. Does Sid embelish some contact? Yeah. Is that probably born of the calls he gets as the best player in the game combined with his sense of self-preservation? Certainly.

We can devil's advocate the shit out of this from one side or the other. Reality is just that. And in this instance probably a situation where both sides are right and both sides are wrong, but to variable degrees and in a very complex way that no one has been able to ledger on pencil and paper.

Let's just tone down the tribalism. [Again] I'm a Pens fan and I call no [intended] harm, no foul (beyond the obvious and most likely unavoidable slash). Sid protects himself because he's a target for many reasons.

Fair enough, I'm def guilty of not using the italics when I prob should... for the record the first three or four posts on this topic were all tongue in cheek. I'm watching the game, cooking dinner and posting on the peripheral. I saw some of the social media responses during the height of game and it fired me up... a lot of the more serious posting was probably inspired by that than anything in this thread... Crazy game.

Even at 3-1 this feels just a tad better than 50/50 with all the Pens that are missing and the way the Caps played. Easy money Fluery gets popped in the head early in game five......

I'm conditioned for the Caps to lose every second round series in any way possible and don't think they deserve to advance after being outplayed and getting down 2-0 at home and then knocking out Crosby.

That's a little harsh. To be fair, the Caps did not get outplayed in game 1.

The Niskanen on Crosby collision is just bad luck for Sid. These things happen way too fast to be avoided and Crosby was in a very awkward position. It doesn't deserve a penalty even during the season...

Playoffs hockey is for tough gentlemen(not the kind associated with ND football) and it's part of what makes it so exciting in my opinion.

Not many teams can lose guys that combined for 189 pts on the year and still beat the regular season champs.
