There was a huge discrepancy in penalty yards, but most of those were self inflicted by Jacksonville and nearly all of them were huge. The PI in the first half is questionable, the rest really weren't. They seriously f'd themselves with the delay of game and the late PI in the 4th. You can't do that shit and expect to beat Tom Brady. Jacksonville had some chances to put the game almost out of reach and they couldn't do shit on offense or defense in the 4th. I'm sick of watching teams blow leads in the 4th.

I didn’t watch the entire game. But I did see why my own eyes an obvious hold on the Lewis run at the end of the game. I didn’t have a dog in the fight, so didn’t care who won. I completely expected the Pats to win.

If saying that there was an obvious hold on the last run by Lewis makes me salty...then so be it!

Jeeeez people are sensitive here

You literally said typical refs helping the Pats lmao. That type of phrasing might as well be the dictionary definition of being salty.

The biggest joke of the game was the 2nd down after the fumble in the 4th. Bortles threw to Lewis over the middle who was clearly behind held. It was a no brainer call to make. The refs do nothing and CBS didn’t even show a replay of the down. I had to rewind the play on my dvr to re watch it. Clear as day. Would have been a first down. That’s the type of bullshit that never gets called against them. I’m a Jets fan, so I’ve been watching them get away with this for 15 years.

They just win. As someone who is College>NFL, it is very frustrating watching ND be coached mediocrely on Saturday my whole life and then watch the Pats out-coach and out-play everyone on Sunday.

IMO that first Cooks PI was 50/50 but I didn’t see anything too egregious after that. I’m also very biased, but Pats deserved the win IMO.

Edit: forgot that the league loves the patriots so much they were about to take Brady to the Supreme Court...

But it’s true. Seen it many of times throughout the years.

Like I said I didn’t watch the whole game. And from what I did watch the only call or non call by the refs I did not like was the run by Lewis.

So fine I’m salty.

And the Pats fans who still complain about the Tyree catch are not salty at all...

Keenum just got hit in the face mask. Brady would have got the flag.

Patriots Defense does it again.....

I will be the only person saying this but its the truth. The Defense and that head coach is more valuable than Captain dink and dunk.

You’ll be the only one to say it because you’re wrong. How many times does Brady have to drive them for a win will it take to get you to believe?

Jax was holding all game......Gronk was held or impacted past the 5 yard line on every single play. Don't be salty.

This, I imagine, is how Alabama fans feel all the time....you against the world. Fun times. If you can't get out of your own way to see the game for what it was, I don't know what to tell you....

I mean I give zero shits about the Patriots, positive or negative. Don't really care about pro sports at all, except for hockey. If anything, I have significant rooting interest towards the Patriots due to my office fantasy league where I have Tom Brady and Dion Lewis in our "playoff round" and hundreds of bucks on the line.

As a neutral observer, I thought the Jaguars didn't get a single break from the officials all game. I thought the Patriots got multiple. Which comes with home field advantage (that they earned) and incompetent officiating (that they didn't earn). Incompetent officiating could be corruption or a simple lack of aptitude... from stories I've heard in CFB I basically assume the worst whenever something looks fishy, but that probably doesn't apply to the NFL. With that said, there is obvious motive to keep Jacksonville out of the SB for a team in a large media market, so it really wouldn't surprise me.

But anyone who sits there and acts like that game was called even almost surely has to be biased. That PI at the end of the first half was comical. The lack of holding call on the game icing run was as bad as it gets. They coach players on those kinds of plays to hold and force the refs to make a call because the yardage doesn't really hurt you and if you get away with it then you get a W... which is what happened. I reffed basketball for a long time and we called that "swallowing your whistle" when you should make a call but given the moment you don't want to... that was the football equivalent.

No, the refs aren't "why" New England won but goddamn I honestly cannot believe anyone is defending that performance from the zebras.

Agreed 100% I actually like New England and it looks like I'll be cheering for them in another Super Bowl but that was lopsided on the reffing front.

Honestly, you sound biased. You talk about how bad the officiating was and then point to a pass interference call where the DB had his hands on the receiver the whole time (I personally like it when they let the guys play with contact) and then a holding call on the decisive running play. Two plays? C’mon.

Jags safety Church took out the second best player on the field today and was not ejected. Yet no one has batted an eye at the mistake by the refs.

Oh please the ball was thrown way out of bounds and there was completely minimal contact... that call led to 7 points. But whatever helps you sleep at night.

What rule should he have been ejected under.

Rule 12, Section 2, Article 6:

Penalty: For unnecessary roughness: Loss of 15 yards. The player may be disqualified if the action is judged by the official(s) to be flagrant. If the foul is by the defense, it is also an automatic first down.

He actually broke three different rules at a minimum. Targeted the head of a defenseless player. Using ones own helmet to target a defenseless player. Launching oneself at a defenseless player.

Right, so what part of it was flagrant.

(Hint: you can google up literal hundreds of hits that were far more egregious and players weren't objected. This isn't college with targeting. Learn the rules.)

HOLY COW YOU CAN GOOGLE HUNDREDS OF PASS INTERFERENCES AND HOLDINGS THAT WERE FAR MORE EGREGIOUS AND WEREN’T CALLED. REFS SUCK. PERIOD. IT WASN’T BIAS. REFS JUST ALWAYS SUCK.

Missed him by more than 5 yards. Thanks.

(EDIT: Sorry, I said "out of bounds" I meant "was nowhere close to catchable")

Like holy fuck if you actually think that was PI you are a blind clown. There is no one who isn't a Pats fan or an idiot that thinks that call was remotely close to correct. Literally everyone is in agreement about it being egregiously terrible.

Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrr nice false equivalency.

The point is that kind of hit NEVER warrants an ejection in the NFL. Ever.

Because he was forcibly run out of bounds (which is illegal). If you don't like pass interference and a spot foul, it was AT LEAST illegal contact and an automatic first down. Watch the ENTIRE clip of that play. Brady threw the ball early and VERY high. It was in the air during all of that contact.

To bring it full circle, the illegal contact rules were put into place when Peyton Manning cried that Ty Law was too dominant back when I was still in high school. So karma.

You're the one using a single PI call in the first half of the game as evidence that the NFL told the officiating crew to cheat the Jags out of the game.

I just wish it wasn't so obvious that the NFL didn't want a small market team in the Super Bowl.

I personally didn't think it was PI but it wasn't so blatant to make me believe the NFL is fixing games. Obviously, you feel differently.

Illegal contact would be a defensible call. Watching the game I would've been like "yeah ok sure"... and then onto the next play.

But like that's also a 5 yard penalty, not a 30 yard penalty... big difference.
