This school doesn't deserve Freeman.
Shit, for all of his flaws, it didn't even deserve Brian Kelly.

If this is how it's going to be join the Ivy League.
Swarbrick said years ago if FBS ends up splitting into a football factory and an academic side that ND would absolutely be on the academic side of things. He's not wrong based on the actions of the higher ups.

So it pretty much sounds like no-one really knows what in the actual fuck is going on?

That is great, then they need to share that with the fanbase so we can surrender the thought that we care about winning. ND is (mostly) all talk, and very little action.

Just seems odd for a 14 day old contracted coach to go to ND for an interview.

I get the ND isn’t Utah but he is content staying in Utah according to some things your read.
I would be too if the prospective new employer crapped all over me and refused to pony up. I would suck up to to my current employer stat!

Houston, Maryland and UTEP are the only other programs with an open OC job right now as far as I can tell.

Grim.

I can't find the original article, it would have been roughly 7-8 years ago, but apparently Swarbrick recently reiterated this idea recently:

ND's Swarbrick believes a Division 1 break up with Academics & Corporate

teams. I think what is going on with the B1G is much bigger than a few schools that don't want to expand. So the Academic versus Corporate Model, I do think schools like Virginia Tech and UVa could compete at the highest level, if they have checks and balances are there for the Academic model.

"Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick told Sports Illustrated that he believes the breakup of college sports at the NCAA Division I level is “inevitable,” and puts a potential target date on that seismic change as the mid-2030s."

"Should the schism come, Notre Dame would be among those that still tied its athletics to the educational mission of the school and answered to its president and academic administration. Others could essentially be spun off while retaining the school name and branding. A theoretical example (not proffered by Swarbrick): Oregon Ducks Athletics, Inc."

Many of us on here have wondered how the other sports survive if the football and basketball money is sent to the players and not the other sports. How do you comply with Title 9? He talks about that problem here.

I could see the B1G and ACC sticking with the Academic model, and I could see the SEC and B12 going with the Corporate model, if it were to happen. He thinks it will be settled in the mid 30's, but I am sure this is having a big impact on expansion right now. I don't know how it couldn't have an impact on the Power 4/5 expansion.

Jack also predicted around 2015 that the Playoff would eventually settle on a 12 team format and that Texas and Oklahoma would get pulled into the SEC.

I can believe Swarbrick wasn’t on board with Ludwig. He probably wants at least one dynamic coordinator on staff as a potential HC candidate should Freeman succeed and move on quickly.

I’m sure back in 2009 most figured Kelly being here 12 years would’ve yielded a stronger coaching tree.

Hopefully we learned something. If the fossil candidate shows up with his contract on a stone tablet, we may need to do more research before offering.

Sources inside the Gug say Ludwig put Jesus down as a reference because they grew up together and he wouldn’t vouch for him.
This is kind of a baller move by Ludwig if true. Also shows he never really wanted to go to ND.
