Rudolph was O line coach at UW when Jonathon Taylor was averaging 6.5 and 7 yds per carry.

That's about as good of a hire as you can do for wanting to run the ball and be pro-style.

Plus he has OC experience, I see that as a positive. That puts 3 guys in the room that have called plays and ran an offense. A pass guy, a run guy and Gerard Packer. Hope they can figure things out and become one mind.

So assuming our coaching staff is not changing further, and Gino G and Rudolph are, in fact. hired we have three changes on the staff (none on Defense):
OC Rees to Parker
QB Rees to Gino
OL Hiesand to Rudolph

I'd conclude this as a wash and, unless you think Rees was a genius and Parker is an idiot I'm thinking this will be a widely held opinion.
So the most obvious conclusion is this board, and many of its internet cousins, went off the deep end for no damned reason except because they can.
I know, people are "passionate" about their team. But some of you need to calm the fuck down especially those who are in a "leadership" role.

Always nice to "We are not the same" the ACC. Hopefully one day we can do that to conferences that are good at football.

Chill out man, no need for profanity. It’s only college football.

Do we have leaders on IE?

I think it'll be a wash at worse. Always a possibility but unlikely it's a catastrophe, IMO. But I very much like the addition of Gino at QB coach, simply because we haven't had good, consistent QB play in a long time with Rees coaching the QBs. Doesn't really matter how exciting your play design is if you have QBs who can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn on the easiest throws, which seemed to be a regular problem.

edit: don't feel like addressing the 2nd half of the quote.

I would not call it a wash but who knows maybe they can go 11-1 maybe they can’t. The fact is no one will know anything until the end of next year. I like the QB coach OL coaching hires but who knows how they will all mesh. Who knows how Gino or Parker are going to do. No one can really tell that yet. They could be the next great coaches. They could be a flash in the pan. No one knows. The thing most fans were pissed about isn’t that they think the new guys will suck it’s the fact ND went with unestablished guys instead of being able to pull in the big name home run hires. That and the way the whole Ludwig debacle was handled including Swarbrick’s patronizing email. That’s all. I guarantee every ND fan hopes these guys succeed. It’s just some of us won’t be paying attention as much as we used to.

I would argue we haven’t had good or consistent QB play since Kelly took over the program.

I respect your opinion and hope you will do the same for mine:

I don't think this is a wash at all. IMHO, Rees is better than Parker/Gino and Heistand is better than Rudolph. Notre Dame could have done better with the OC and they could have done worse with the OL coach. In the end, I think it all depends on how Parker pans out, especially with play calling.

Yeah! Like the Sunbelt. Thundering Herd you're next!

But anyways, I think it's a good hire. VA Tech seems pissed so that's not a bad thing.

Savvy Jack is busy reconciling the AD’s checking account. Once that task is finished he plans to hire Watt as OLine HC.

Thereafter he will bring Freeman into the process to announce his hire. Freeman will then handle the Presser and speak to the thorough search. Not being totally stupid, Savvy Jack will supply Freeman with prerequisite Talking Points and sit in the audience to make sure his under paid Head Coach keeps to his script….most especially emphasizing the Program’s Commitment to winning.
Wrong, bad breath! (I kid). Your disdain of JS makes me think of BD's disdain of JS. Have you renewed your subscription or what?

Can't disagree with you there. Kizer in 2015, Book in 2020 (limited as it was) really are the only times where I've been truly excited about our QB play in that whole era. Coan wasn't bad, just limited in what he could actually do since he wasn't a very agile kind of QB. Pyne might have been a hard working guy, but good lord he really was atrocious.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but looking through his bio I see he was a GA at Ohio St. when MF was there playing. The full-circle ness of MF's hires never ends.

He was just a GA, but that does mean he learned early on under Tressel. He's also very clearly made his bones elsewhere, so it's more of a funny coincidence to me than a "Freeman just can't help but hire dudes he knows."

If anything, I think it's good he's got a rolodex of some very impressive coaching connections. That'll always be good.
