Luke has turned down every other opportunity to even just interview anywhere. The fact he did at ND says a lot. If family is really his priority, I don't blame him one bit for not wanting to move to South Bend when his sons are entering high school and middle school. Sometimes things aren't all that complicated for why ND misses.

I agree 100%. He came because of the interest but realized that Freeman wanted him for his kick ass recruiting and coaching and that he wasn’t willing to give that much time up.

Better then Rudolph? I will defer, but based on what I have read/think would be the best candidate its Rudolph. Maybe because he has OC experience, and I don't fully trust War Daddy.

And, I think he's worked with Fleck who is a grinder in recruiting so he has to know what that is like. Which will likely be similar to what Freeman expects.

Yes, to both. Freeman is already going to be responsible for the top of every position coaches board. At least that's been the blue print so far.

Then, I'd also add that there are two types of quality recruiters. There are guys that recruit and land the best HS talent. And, then there are recruiters who find and land the guys they can best develop. The most successful ND football program needs to have a little of both.

If MF is involved in landing the top OL every cycle and the OL coach is responsible for rounding out the group, I think that is a good balance.

Yes, perfect world, he's great at both, but right now we're entering our window for competing for a championship so I'd go with a guy that I know can develop talent and improve the lot we already have in the building with hopes that he'll amp his game up on the recruiting trail. Until then let's put more pressure on MF to take care of that end imo.

I think that he’s a good developer of talent and coach (especially in the run game). I’m not too convinced of his ability as a recruiter. Minnesota is definitely tough to recruit to but nothing he’s done really gives indication one way or another about how he’d recruit at ND. It's worth noting that three of their starting OLinemen were transfers this past year, including Quinn Carroll who likely would've been a third string at ND.
