He was also with Willingham when things went South. I would be concerned about Denbrock's leadership qualities under different circumstances. But what ND is going to ask of him is to be up in a booth. He can be very successful in that role even if he's a soft personality.
I'll never put much blame on position coaches for a program failing.
Our offense was pretty good in 2016 until the whole program gave in due to the defense being horrid. That offense v Texas was lit.
He was the AHC of "the whole program gave in..."

How about asking Dan Mullen if he wants to ease back into coaching for a year or two as a coordinator.

Bring out the Tebow/Dak Prescott playbook for Leonard this year.

He spent a couple years as a GA at ND.
Mullen had a kid in South Bend while he was at ND.

I would hope not. And I don't say that because we wanted Parker gone, but this is a good career move for him. I would hope that MF would wish him well and send him off to be successful at the next level of his career.

ND is at a hell of a crossroads if you look at things from a Macro level. The two premier Midwest schools have been OSU and Michigan in recent years, and Michigan is possibly facing an entire coaching staff overhaul and sanctions, while OSU is breathing down Day's neck and their 2024 class might lose serious talent in the days to come.

Then there's ND, with a HC who (for better or worse) loves the ND admin and that seems reciprocated. Rumors of Gug development coming, NIL/Portal showing reasons to believe we're playing ball, and a potential steal of Denbrock would mean we're paying top dollar for both OC/DC.

Does ND the program smell blood in the water, and truly aligned behind MF going for it all?

We have a serious chance to take a huge step in front of our Midwest peers and it's all coming to head at the same time. (Realizing this is in the OC thread and meant to put in another thread, but the site is taking like 10 mins to load for me and unable to move).

Denbrock was the OC for the 2014 team which was 23rd in Offensive SP+ in that whole mess of a season (the defense was brutal; 59th).

After that he was the AHC and WR coach while ND brought in Mike Sanford as the titular OC. In 2015 they were 6th in Offensive SP+. Even in the dismal 2016 season they were 18th in Offensive SP+.

But nobody seemed to want to credit Mike Sanford for any of that work. Did ND regret the move and let Denbrock take the lead as the AHC?

Ill let the google machine/coaching career do the work here for me.

Don't think MF would have much of a leg to stand on. You want to encourage/enable your guys to take promotions from your staff, no?

Depends on who the coach is. I would hope like hell they would do everything possible to retain someone like Mickens. I don’t think they did much fighting to keep Elston.

But what if the LSU job is coming open?
Could very well be that Nagle is going for a job that is about to become open because Denbrock is coming back to ND. Nagle coming to ND is very unlikely, but we've seen some surprises before have we not?

Denbrock back to ND seems logical. Kelly having a guy like Nagle on his staff seems to make a ton of sense. Nagle knows the lay of the land down there.

The wheels were likely in motion weeks ago. Which is why people should never panic and wait for things to play out.

It's interesting this speculation about Denbrock hasn't even made a dent on LSU boards. Not a peep about it on Tigerdroppings or 247.
