IE Bros,

It is almost time for the much dreamed about smartphone upgrade.

I try to do as much research before such a purchase as necessary, so I figured I'd see who on here on some experience with the new Android devices out there.

I currently have a Droid Incredible 2, so I can't wait to step up to 4G. Verizon plan

Looking at the GS3, Droid Razr HD, and the next Nexus phone.
Who has experience with what, and how do you like it?

If anyone tells be to buy an iPhone, I WILL neg rep you. Just fair warning haha

I've heard the galaxy is pretty sweet from a friend of mine. The display is amazing.

Choose wisely!

I have been looking into the GS3. My wife has a friend that has it and she raves about how awesome it is. The demo I checked out was pretty sweet. Still considering it, but not sure I want to spend the money. Maybe it will be cheaper in about 4-5 months.

Just got my son the Galaxy S III. Awesome phone. I have the S II (cheaper) and it still does way more than I can.

If you were in tthe market for a new one.... For the price as they are now, would you just get the GS2? Or would you go ahead and pay the price for the 3?

We just rolled into a new plan. After a $50 rebate I got the SII for $50. The SIII was $200. The SII is all I need so $50 was good by me. My son, age 17, the SIII was the ticket. You know how that works.

I have been looking around for a while and I kept coming up with the SIII being the best phone out, ahead of the Iphones.

The SII is pretty highly rated also so I felt comfortable with Samsung. I really like the SII and would bet the SIII can't do much for me that the SII can't do. I didn't look at the differences in cameras so there may be something there that
matters to some.

I currently have the Droid RAZR Maxx as well. It is the best smartphone i have had to date. 4g upgrade is mind blowing too. One big suggestion. Look at the size batteries in the phones. You buy a smartphone with a small battery you might get two days if you don't use it at first. Six months into your contract you can't go more than a day without a charge and just over a year into it it won't last from 5am to 10pm. A big reason i went with the Maxx is for the battery but the phone itself is amazing too. I was never crazy enough to buy an iPhone. Android is the way. :headbang:

I got the GA3... errr GS3 about 2 months ago and it's a great phone. That being said, if you are into the mondo screens you should wait for the Note 2. I would recommend no other phone than the GS3 though. I've had the Lumia 900, IPhone 4s, Galaxy Nexus and I can tell you the GS3 is by far the best I've had.

Note 2 will be very similar just a bigger screen.

Thanks for all the responses.

Note 2 is out for sure, way to big.

Until the next Nexus comes out, it is a tie between the GS3 and the Droid Razr HD (or Maxx HD).

Is there a big size difference in real life between the Razr and Razr Maxx? Specs only get out so much information.

If you sit them aside by side you can notice the difference. Overall the Maxx is still a very slim phone. If you are ok with the size of the RAZR the Maxx will not be noticeably different in your day to day.

If you want killer hardware - Galaxy S4, HTC One, Droid Ultra. If you want gorgeous screen, tons of versatility, and killer multimedia experience - Galaxy Note III. If you want best bang for buck in combination with software specifically tailored to the device - Moto X.

I've done killer hardware. I've done killer software. This time I went for modest hardware with software designed with said hardware in mind - the Moto X. Best phone experience I've had in a LONG time. I would gladly trade that in for a Nexus 5, but VZW isn't likely to land that anytime soon, so Moto X it is for me.

I am fortunate to be in a position to get my hands on a lot of these devices before they launch and there is currently nothing "coming soon" that trumps it.

EDIT: I apologize - I assumed you're on VZW. If that's not the case and you're on either a GSM network or Sprint then I would recommend the Nexus 5 over all above devices. I would also buy that off contract and avoid a two-year extension if you have the means.

I have ATT. I have had one person suggest the Moto X. My S4 being the active doesn't have the same upgrades as the regular S4. When I got it I was told that the it since they gave you the active features they took away some of the upgrades on the inside. They told me it would be more the S3 than it would be the S4. Being a phone whore, I just wanted the newest. This time I'd prefer to get one that I like and will keep for a long time. I've been in the Samsung Galaxy family with a phone since it started. I don't know much about the Moto X. What specifically makes it work for you?

EDIT: Same question about the Nexus 5.

Agree. Learn all the ins and outs of the phone though if you purchase it. There really isn't another phone like it, IMO. I have sold phones and still do for 7 years. I can honestly say that the Moto X is legit! If you don't learn to use all its functions though, then it just becomes another decent android.

BlackBerry q10

2 weeks ago I would have laughed at this. I had training with Blackberry reps and the stuff they demo on this device was amazing. Not anything that would make me buy it but it definitely made me stop bashing on BB.

The Note 3 is the other one I've looked at this point. What are the big things about the Moto X that makes it special?

I always get asked the same question, "What is the difference?"

The gestures are smooth, the voice control is legit and the size is convenient. Specs and all of that are great just like the rest. One thing you really need to consider is size. Phone in the pocket isn't the same, where you put your phone while in the car doesn't always work, one hand or two hand "texter" matters. Think of your daily routine with your phone and that will be the biggest decider for you.

Trust me, all the phones are great but size comes into play much more than you expect. You won't go wrong with either. Again, research the gestures and voice control. Maybe that doesn't fit your lifestyle. I use my phone for a ton of work stuff. My battery is twice as good on days off. Moto X doesn't have anything I would use. The Note 3 doesn't have anything I "need" but I refuse to own a phone that big because I can't place it in my cup holder while driving. I also need a better car charger because of the battery. I love to text with one hand, not happening with a Note 3 unless you're ET.

Just think of your lifestyle and how the size with come into play. Hope it helps. I am always off the clock on here. So I am very lazy in the cellular talk.

First off thanks for the info. I don't use my phone for work, just for entertainment. Mostly web browsing, sports, and the occasional game. I have larger hands, but thats whats holding me back with the Note 3. Its size. I'm not sure I can comfortably pocket it in jeans. My drawback with the Moto X is I've had a Galaxy phone forever and I don't know enough about it to know if its something I will be happy with long term. I never thought a damn phone would be so much trouble to pick. Lol

EDIT: I also worry that the memory in the Moto X won't be enough as its not expandable.
