Bullshit for EPL fans. First it was making us have NBC Sports Gold. Then it was Peacock along with NBCSN. Now it's get rid of NBCSN so they can continue to rake us over the coals and go searching on the shitty Peacock interface, or rustling around to see if the game on on USA, or some BS.

they are only losing their position to have 1st dibs on SEC games. They will still be showing games on saturday afternoons, just the sloppy seconds after ESPN picks their choice for primetime

I love NBC. They're far and away the best network for sports in my eyes. Shame about the NBCSN loss, but we weren't really on there (in my memory) so I'm not really worried about it.

I’m surprised nobody has brought this up yet, but Sampson dropped a shocking statement toward the end of this weeks Irish Illustrated podcast. He said it’ll be in his story of Ford’s commitment this week.

For anyone that didn’t listen, to summarize Ford had about 15 conversations with Lincoln Riley and even met his wife over Zoom. When Sampson asked Ford how many conversations he had with Brian Kelly, the answer was 0. He essentially committed to ND because Freeman came in during the 9th inning to save the day.

Ford isn’t going to spend his days picking up the phone every time Elston, Lea/Freeman, and BK call. Would at least one call from BK have been nice? Sure. But BK is not a good recruiter both in skill and in part effort. BK is not Ed O eating gumbo with recruits. I personally don’t have a problem concentrating the time allotted to ND to the guys who the staff feels would maximize that time.

I agree with this, too many people feel BK has to be involved with every recruit. I would rather he "recruit" the BOT and other powers that be to get the football program the coaches and perks it needs to compete for recruits.

Kelly’s mediocre recruiting actually gives me hope that ND can take another step towards being elite. It would be disheartening if people reported that Kelly was putting in tremendous effort in recruiting and we were only finishing 12th or so.

And for all of these stories there is one with Jaden Gould where he talks to BK all the time. BK is clearly very hands on with certain recruits and hands off with others. They must have a reason for it to be this way. Hence, us getting Ford without him being involved. Is that a risk? Yes. But a calculated risk that paid off in the end. It’s not just that he doesn’t give an F.

I’m not sure I’m understanding your point. You don’t think they could have done more besides leaning on a hire that happened just in time to save the day? You don’t think he has time to pick up a call from BK, but has time to speak to Riley 6-10 times? Yeah, I think he laid it out in that fashion which aided in my shock factor. I didn’t purposely inflate the # of convos with Lincoln Riley, as I was finishing up work and cooking dinner as I listened to the podcast and posted this a couple hours after.

I just found it surprising how this recruitment went down considering he was a top guy on our board and we didn’t have a DC at the time. Incredibly glad the homerun hire in Freeman is paying dividends already but just felt like it wasn’t a solid strategy knowing Ford had an early timeline set, albeit that it worked in the end.

Also I’m curious to Lucky’s point of BK being pretty involved with some guys and not at all with others. I don’t think he’s out of touch with it, but more interested in how they pick and choose their battles with him.

You guys are forgetting Alex Grinch, the OU DC is a terrible recruiter and is known to be incredibly socially awkward and OU purposely does not have him engage with recruits for this reason. So it makes sense Riley would take on a bigger role recruiting Ford etc.

Serious questions, because I don't keep up with national recruiting, how active (directly with kids) is Saban? Seems like a guy that would hate doing that (doesn't like faking emotions lol). I know players love and respect him, but recruiting trail... just curious.

That said, in his written work, Pete remains a pro, and doesn't let his personal feelings overwhelm the articles. I don't listen to his podcast though, and it seems that might be a whole other story.

I’d say Fords article is a pretty good representation of what you said. On the pod he was flippant and presented it as something you should be disgusted by. The article scattered the facts a bit and if you weren’t looking for it probably don’t notice much. Podcasts in general I think most reporters relax a bit and emotion comes through

Polian I think was still up, basically took some heat and said we (him and position coaches) go to BK and get his involvement when needed and he’s very enthusiastic when called up. But also unfair to think he’ll be involved with whole board of targets
