I know I’m a biased ND fan but it seems all the announcers want to talk about is Chennedy Carter. She’s a great player but geez.

Arike talking smack but damn she’s fun to watch. Swagger!

She’s like Iverson. Chuck 30+ shots to get 30+ pts. Not efficient, but very talented

I commented about Carter jawing at ND players and refs and the no calls during the game.

BUT ... Arike's was blatant. Stevie Wonder could have called that from the nose bleed seats.

I haven’t watched any A&M games but this is inaccurate for this game. I believe she got her 30 points in the 3rd quarter on great efficiency. Looked like to me she suffered cramps at the end of the 3rd and just wasn’t the same in the 4th where she shot poorly.
Glad we could pull out a tough one.

I know I’m not supposed to second guess the coach and her staff but I’m not sure why we weren’t hedging on the screens for Carter in the second half when that’s all they ran on offense especially with Turner. I think she had the length and speed to keep her from going around her and possibly getting some trapping situations. At the very least it makes someone other than Carter make a play.

Either way great win by the Irish!! See you on Monday.

I don’t see anything better in the third quarter. Here is her shooting by quarters both total and from 3-point:

1st= 3-8, 2-3
2nd= 3-7, 2-2
3rd= 4-11, 2-4
4th= 3-8, 1-3

Carter is an interesting offensive player --- and I disagree with most of the commentary here about her. She is/was absolutely a killer on deep range face-up shooting --- you need to overplay her to stop that. She is also terrific at driving around people all the way to the rack --- the comment about Turner being able to hedge and stop that is ... duh, nope. The only way to stop her from doing that is with a third player and the first two busting butt to fill.

Weirdly, in this game at least, Carter was terrible at any other kind of shot. Her productivity in the pull-up-and-shoot-something ranges was almost ZERO --- really strange. It was almost as if she needs a clear look relatively straight line (no matter how deep) to get shots to go straight.

As to trash talk, I didn't see that much. She's a Baller who loves to play and exhibits that towards her teammates, not so much the opponents. She's irritating because she's too damm good for comfort plus being an extrovert. I imagine that everyone else feels the same way about Arike (who lost her mind and definitely deserved that T.)

Arike probably in the end played one of her best games ever however --- and better than Carter. We won, however, not only because of that but because (as usual) the opponent had no real answer for Jess, and big game Jackie showed up in the fourth quarter. Arike paid more attention than usual to defense and we needed a five-player effort --- especially given how much Junk Defense Muffet had to play. We were probably better in our triangle and two when Jackie was on Carter and Arike was the other junk-baller --- that's a relatively simple chase assignment for someone whose attention wanes.

I was pretty happy with the game. But A&M should be REAL problems for everyone next year, and THANK THE LORD that the Howard girl didn't play her last year there and transferred.

Sorry but I disagree, would Turner or another player stopped her every time? No, but I think they would stopped her at least half the time and gotten her into some tough situations, similar to when they trapped her in the corner and forced the bad pass that led to a breakaway layup.

I think Muffet knew that Carter would get her points but knew it would take more than one player to beat us. The announcer said something about Carter won't get tired, but as she was such the focus of the shooting AND ball movement, she did wear down and cramped up. No one else on her team got a hot hand and the D kept them from major impacts so we just had to take care of our offense even though we didn't run as much as usual. We got a crap ton of layups which are super high percentage shots so we pulled away and they finally couldn't reel us back in time.

Stanford bounced them the last two times they met in the tournament so maybe they’ll be a little extra motivated
