Making a true frosh look like Lebron, Turner hasn’t been good, defense is trash, and the list can go on. For whatever reason, Muffet’s team that are supposed to be good always underachieve. Absolutely no reason why Notre Dame should lose to this team. Looks like the team is still in celebration mode from last year.

I mean, Notre Dame allegedly has 4 All-Americans and they’re getting shit on by two 18 year olds.

No comments by me, but not because I'm not interested nor care --- I do a great deal. Nope, my absence of thought is because of an incredible botch-up of my TV "contract" which voided out not only my watching but my recording. ATT/DIRECTV outdid themselves with incompetence.

Every team in the nation should have hated the result of this game, as it shows that UCONN hasn't slipped a bit and they have another instant superstar (remember what they did with Breanna Stewart FOR FOUR YEARS. Lord, I hope it doesn't repeat.)

Mike, here's a 7 minute video of the game. The game was on WatchESPN. If your provider problem is fixed, they have a free replay available.

Noie: Notre Dame loses poise, game to confident UConn
By Tom Noie South Bend Tribune Dec 2, 2018

...

What bothered McGraw the most? Hard to say. Everything was equally offensive. Transition defense was a mess. So was the halfcourt defense. Offensive execution? Not much of it. The Irish also seemingly forget about finding Brianna Turner down low. McGraw liked the Irish height advantage in the post, then watched Turner take only seven shots. Why? Hard to shoot the ball when you don’t get the ball. Not enough discipline on offense to get the ball where it needed to go.

...

Obviously, we didn't play up to our potential, but I don't think the gap in the score is a true indication of our ability to compete with UConn. Basketball is a unique game. Sometimes the shots fall and you look better than you are. Sometimes the shots don't fall and you look worse than you are. Sunday's game was an example of the latter for ND. We hit one three point shot for the entire game.

Muffet will get things corrected and the team will be ready at tournament time.

... In better news for @ndwbb, freshman point guard Jordan Nixon is back practicing and expected to see action tomorrow at Toledo.
She's missed the last 5 games after suffering a concussion Nov. 17 at DePaul.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The No. 2 University of Notre Dame women's basketball team (7-1) looks to regroup on the road this weekend when the Irish travel east to take on Toledo (6-2) on Saturday. Tip-off inside Savage Arena is set for 1 p.m. ET. and will only be streamed on the ESPN+ subscription service. Fans can also hear Bob Nagle on the call on Pulse FM 96.9/92.1/103.1.

SERIES VS TOLEDO
Notre Dame leads the series against Toledo, 5-2, and have been the winners of four straight. The two last met in Toledo on Dec. 18, 2016, when the Irish defeated the Rockets, 85-68. Brianna Turner led the Irish with 26 points on 11-of-13 shooting to go with her eight rebounds. Marina Mabrey scored the second most with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

2,000 CAREER POINT CLUB
Arike Ogunbowale sits with 1,971 career points, good for fifth all-time at ND and fifth among all active DI players. The senior is chasing history in Skylar Diggins-Smith's all-time scoring record at Notre Dame of 2,357 career points, just 386 points ahead of Ogunbowale. The Milwaukee native is averaging 24.3 points per game and is well on pace to surpass it. Important to note that scoring average ranks sixth in the entire country, while her 194 total points ranks fourth.

LIMITING THE TURNOVERS
After suffering 75 turnovers in the first four games, the Irish have been more protective with the ball ever since, posting four consecutive games with single-digit turnovers: 8 vs. Drake, 7 vs. Oregon State, 9 vs Iowa and 9 vs UConn.

1ST HALF ATTACK

Notre Dame's top-two scorers have not wasted any time in games this season. Both Ogunbowale and Jackie Young average double-digit points in the first half alone at 13.6 and 10.0, respectively. Ogunbowale has reached as high as 19 points by halftime twice this season.

20-POINT STREAK
After shattering the Notre Dame single season record for 20-point games with 25 last year, Ogunbowale is back at it and then some. The senior recorded a career best seven straight games with 20 or more points. No other player in the country started with seven consecutive games. The seven straight also set a new Notre Dame record, previously held by '97 grad Katryna Gaither, who started the 1996-96 season with six in a row. Ogunbowale now has 40 career games with 20-plus points, passing Ruth Riley's 37 for fourth all-time. Next up is Skylar Diggins-Smith at No. 3 with 45.

GETTING TO THE LINE
The Irish continue to attack the basket and reach the charity stripe. As a team, the Irish lead in the country in made free-throws with 149. They rank sixth nationally in attempts with 207. Ogunbowale and Young are a major reason for the top ranking. Ogunbowale ranks 12th nationally in made free-throws (43) and 10th in attempts (57), while Young ranks 23rd in makes with 37.

FINAL ND 72 Toledo 56

FINAL ND 72 Toledo 56

Associated Press
TOLEDO, Ohio -- Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw said she'd hoped her team would play a little sooner this week to get over the loss to Connecticut.

But Saturday would have to do.

Paced by Arike Ogunbowale's 22 points, the No. 2 Irish stopped Toledo 72-56.

"I think we hoped that we would've played Thursday," McGraw said. "I think we were anxious to get out, and I think we ran out of gas a little. The adrenaline was pumping."

Jessica Shepard scored 16 points and had eight rebounds. Jackie Young had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Irish (8-1), who pulled away after leading by six points at halftime in front of the third-largest crowd in Toledo history.

"It was really packed and really loud," Ogunbowale said. "Their fans were in it the whole game, which you don't see a lot for 40 minutes.

"We wanted to get out there earlier, but I think for what's going on, we're got finals coming up, so it was tough for a lot of people to be mentally there. But I think we overcame that."

Notre Dame played its first game since an 89-71 loss to UConn last Sunday. It snapped the Irish's 13-game win streak, including last season's national championship.

The Irish and Huskies switched spots atop the rankings this week. McGraw also publicly apologized for her team's behavior in the loss. Ogunbowale also tweeted an apology to fans after she earned a technical foul and unsportsmanlike foul late in the game.

On Saturday, Notre Dame clamped down on defense in the third quarter, allowing just eight points for Toledo while the Irish took a 58-45 lead. Young and Ogunbowale scored four points apiece during an 8-0 run that gave Notre Dame its first double-digit lead at 53-40.

After shooting 55.2 percent in the first half, Toledo was 7-for-32 shooting (21.9 percent) after halftime.

"When you're missing shots, it's tough to catch them in transition," Toledo coach Tricia Cullop said. "When you miss a shot, and Arike is running the floor, that's not your average guard. She's pretty quick."

Mikaela Boyd scored 15 points for Toledo (6-3), which entered with a four-game win streak. Mariella Santucci and Kaayla McIntyre each added 10 points.

Toledo led most of the first quarter, but Notre Dame scored six straight points before a jumper by Boyd beat the buzzer with the Irish leading 23-20.

Notre Dame went most of the first half without a 3-pointer until Marina Mabrey made two late in the second quarter to give the Irish a 43-37 lead at halftime.

Mabrey scored 11 points and made three 3-pointers. Notre Dame was 30-of-56 shooting (53.6 percent) from the field and out rebounded Toledo 39-28.

LOUD CROWD
The visiting Irish attracted 6,059 fans at Toledo's Savage Arena.

"There's only one or two places in the (Atlantic Coast Conference) that can compare with this," McGraw said. "This is definitely one of the best home crowds and toughest places to play, especially with the band and the students right there. They really add a lot to the game."

MILESTONES COMING
The win was No. 896 for McGraw's career. A perfect finish to 2018 would give McGraw 900 on Dec. 30 against Lehigh, and she'd become the fourth-fastest coach to reach the milestone. Four wins would give her 900 in 1,172 games, trailing just UConn's Geno Auriemma, Tennessee's Pat Summitt and Stanford's Tara VanDerveer for fastest.

Ogunbowale is now nine points away from becoming the fifth Notre Dame player to reach 2,000 career points. She is on pace to top Skylar Duggins-Smith's career Irish scoring lead of 2,357 points this season.

Cullop said Ogunbowale and Delaware's Elena Delle Donne were among the best opponents her teams have seen.

"What's hard about this is Notre Dame doesn't have just Arike," Cullop said. "Every player on the floor is a formidable opponent, so you can't really worry about one player."

SHE SAID IT
"I've known coach McGraw since I was a high school recruit, she tried to recruit me, and she's been making me pay for not going there ever since," said Cullop, who went to Purdue in 1989, making three NCAA Tournament appearances as a player.

BIG PICTURE
Notre Dame: The Irish have four games, including at No. 18 Marquette, before competing in the ACC.

Toledo: Hanging with an elite national program should boost the confidence of Cullop's team as Mid-American Conference season looms. The Rockets were projected to take second in the MAC West by the league's coaches.

UP NEXT
Notre Dame: Hosts Binghamton on Dec. 16.
