ND vs. SEC

Anyone else wish ND would schedule some big time SEC games? ND vs. Bama would be in the top 5 games in CFB whatever year it was played. I am guessing that the problem would be getting a home/home with the SEC because the SEC teams never want to leave their conference for OOC games?

No. Absolutely not unless it is Vandy. If it was up to me we would never play any of those slime ball "colleges" ever. That's why I'm very disappointed we have Oklahoma on the schedule.

You wouldn't enjoy beating the **** out of the slime ball colleges? Showing the world that it can be done right without bribes, and various forms of corruption?

With Michigan and USC on the sched every year, there are enough BC's, Stanfords, Pittsburghs, etc., with an occasional Texas sprinkled in. I don't really like the idea of scheduling the schools that are exemplify everything that is wrong with college football. We aren't really playing the same game - its apples and oranges. Most of the southeast schools are basically professional football programs that offer some classes so they are allowed to play "college" football, whereas ND is a university first and also has a football team. ND is real COLLEGE football.

That being said, I would love to rip an SEC team in a BCS game - preferably the NC game - in the next few years.

The AD made a statement awhile back about playing schools with similar identities to Notre Dame on and off the field. Playing anyone in the SEC outside of Vandy would be to do the exact opposite of that. It may not fire up ESPN gameday but we are playing Army, Air Force, Wake Forest, and BYU for a reason.

I see BYU becoming a year-in, year-out regular on our schedule going forward. Would be very surprised if that is not an annual game into the future. From a TV perspective, a football perspective and a ... I'm not sure the word here - social perspective? - it just seems to be a natural fit. Right now they are only official on our schedule for 2012 and 2013, but will almost certainly be finalized for 2014 and 2015, and I predict they will continue to be on the schedule after that, too.

It would be good to get Georgia Tech back on the schedule. How about Rice, they fit the bill of a similar identity to ND.

I took that statement as compared to programs with similar football tradition. USC serves as the poster boy for player misconduct. We have Miami on our up, and comings. I don't think good should ever turn away from evil, instead crush it.

I'm having trouble recalling, but if I remember the last team from the SEC we played was Tennessee in 2005, excluing the Sugar Bowl game in 2007.

Any other past info. worth sharing??

I wouldn't mind having ALA or AUB or LSU on the schedule every once in a while. Nothing wrong with that. Great draw and it would be a nice chip to use with recruits in that area. Playing a game in their home state just may get that one kid to sign.

Yeah, they're academics suck, but it's football. As a fan, I'm not looking at their test scores on saturday. I know some of you ND grads disagree, but I think it would be nothing but a good thing to schedule an SEC school once in a while.

wait... we recently added Miami, Texas, Arizona State among others and you're upset about playing Oklahoma???

OU has had their dark times (THE 1980s)... but they have been very forth coming with the NCAA recently... are the ONLY other school to actually have a conservative count in regards to National Titles... I personally respect OU a hell of a lot more than most other 'traditional powers"...

just me?

I think so. I know from personal experience (a family friend who played there) that on gamedays their doorbell would ring and there would be an anonymous brown paper bag with $400 in it ($100 for him and each of his roommates) and they took it because what the hell else were you going to do? And these guys were very far from stars or even starters on the team. This is just a story I heard hanging out with my dad and his friends so tke it for what it's worth. Maybe they have cleaned their act up recently, but they blatantly broke rules throughout the 80s and I think the 90s. I don't respect them at all.

Texas? Don't mind playing Texas. ASU? When have the sun devils broken rules? Maybe I'm ignorant. Miami? Miami has TOTALLY cleaned up their act and is NOT a bad academic school. With all that being said, I don't mind OU nearly as much as I would mind an Alabama or Auburn or Ole Miss. I mind OU about as much as I would mind Ohio State being on the schedule.

no school in history has been hit by the NCAA more than ASU... look it up...

UT has had it's moments and I would be stunned if Mack Brown leaves that program on his own accord without leaving it on proby(and no I'm not getting into that one)... Miami and OU are in the same boat that you describe for Miami... yet UM was the worst of the worst 'back then'...

maybe I'm biased though, my wife is a Sooner and my brother in law teaches portions their ROTC program/military history and such... nothing but high marks from his football players/athletes and such...

and the way they turned themselves in ON THEIR OWN INVESTIGATION spoke volumes to me when tOSU, Bama, Auburn and SC do nothing but fight the NCAA tooth and nail and often get away with it... if OU had done the same I have no doubt they would have also... but they did what was right (and the NCAA nailed them... nice example there NCAA)and yeah... their conservative count really speaks volumes to me also, if only symbolically... you don't think they could be all about the program and claim more??

Don't hold your breath waiting for a SEC team to play outside the South. The only ones that do that are Vandy, Tenn and Georgia.

Here's ND's record against the SEC (all time, including bowl games - 21-13, 61%):Notre Dame Records vs Conference

Here's the ND-SEC record since 1990 (last 20 yrs including bowl games, 8-5, 61%): Notre Dame Records vs Conference

In the last 20 years, only Vandy and LSU have scheduled only one home and home each with ND. We have played Tenn three home and homes.

We have never played Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Miss State or Auburn in the regular season. The last time we played South Carolina was in 1984 and Miss last in 1985 (only one home and home all-time). We are 5-1 all-time vs Alabama. Bear Bryant was 0-4 against us.

Ever attended an away game in the South wearing ND attire? A basic level of respect for your opponents' fans is lacking.

Well you made it dead obvious that you don't know how Alabama got on its current probation. Bama started it's own investigation and was suspending players for the textbook thing way before the NCAA even caught wind of it. Hell they did it even the school newspaper knew about it

You referring to @PennSt this year? Sandwiched between power houses Kent St and North Texas?

Oh you really want to start the SOS thing?

I know ND isn't familiar with the conference thing since they are not obligated to play almost the same 8 opponents per year, but with Alabama recently coming off two straight years of season openers against a top 10 team, yeah I can live with starting off the season with a creampuff or two, something I'm sure Notre Dame has never done

ND travels all over the country to play. Pac 10, Big 10, Big 12...We play everyone. And comparing the service academies (who all were bowl eligible this year) against schools like Georgia State and San Jose St. is absurd.

The SEC does play a tough conference schedule, no doubt. But ND has nothing to be ashamed of either.
