I'd rather see a year of baptism by fire with one QB than QB by committee. I don't mind a special package for the redzone, but I do not want to see back and forth all year long with everchanging "1As". Golson, Kiel, and Hendrix all have higher ceilings than Tommy. Pick one and give them enough time to learn/mature. With the way we're stockpiling QBs, one or two are bound to leave. The only ones I see staying for sure this year is Hendrix due to acamdemics, and Gunner due to expected redshirt. If TR or EG end up 3rd on the depth chart, he gone..... And I would not blame either of them. Not that I wish them to leave, I just believe both want to play, and should get a shot somewhere.

I'm smelling a sportsbook vbucks bet here. The only question is where should we set the odds for who of the 4 is named the starter versus Navy. Just spitballing: 2:1 for Rees. 3:1 for Hendrix, 5:1 on Golson and 15:1 on Kiel

Vegas odds would probably have Hendrix and Golson with better odds than Tommy. Hell, maybe even Kiel. lol

According to Pete Sampson, he has heard that Golson has actually been impressive in practice and that he only struggled during that 20 min media session where he fumbled the snaps.

Unless that means he does bad in front of lots of spectators.

I doubt that though.

I heard it was just the beginning of said 20 minutes, as Golson collected himself after two early fumbles.

If that's the case we'll just have all our games in empty stadiums and tell him no one is watching on TV.

If Tommy Rees starts I will try as many forms of slow suicide as possibly can. I am going to start with drinking a gallon of vodka and smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day. After that I will try steroids.

So, Veer, I didn't see any takers on your personal liver prayor. Does that mean I get a higher rate? I'll gladly pray for your liver if Tommy starts!

The only reason I would put Rees ahead is that Kelly may put him on to start, just like he did with Crist last season. I'm not giving him 2:1 because I think he should start, but because I can see Kelly starting him to play it safe with the experienced guy. Then if Tommy stumbles, Kelly puts in Hendrix or Golson. Thinking like an oddsmaker here, rather than an Irish fan.

I can't go through another year with Rees... last year was my most frustrating year as a fan... I hope its Kiel with a combo of Golson but id love to see Hendrix get the nod also

i think BK coming out to say he has simplified the playbook to level the playing field is his way of saying Rees wont be in the picture.

If Kelly names Rees the starter I will punch a hole in the nearest wall. I don't think I'd be able to sit through another season of his lame duck throws into triple coverage. Yeah, he's a "winner," but it's hard not to win when you have the very good defense and running game he had last year. Basically all he had to do was go out and not lose, and he struggled to do that sometimes. The only time he was not the main reason we lost was against Michigan last year.

Respect the hell out of Rees, but man I don't think I'd be able to watch him start at QB again.

So it was Rees' fault that Stanford's front 7 tore through our O Line like crap through a goose, effectively shutting down both the running and passing games? Yeah, that was on Rees. Get over the hate.

I can't see Kelly sticking with Rees out of ego; the guy's not his recruit. We saw how Kelly unceremoniously yanked Crist last season. I don't see him playing Rees for any reason besides he thinks Tommy is the best man for the job

I agree with this. Even if Kelly's ego is wired into it, it's more wired into his own recruits being good enough to start and win.

And that isn't even looking at the opener. It is incomprehensible that he would be "the main reason" for the USF loss.

Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly has scaled back the offense this spring in an effort to get all of the QBs on an even playing field

You know? I wondered, last year, if this wasn't part of the problem with the offense. Maybe Kelly is trying to implement too much, too quickly? Maybe the other skill positions (which were fairly young) benefitted, and played much better, with a less complicated system?
