"As an independent, Notre Dame is faced with many scheduling challenges, and I thank (director of athletics) Jack Swarbrick for his efforts in ensuring the series will continue."

Even the PU AD recognizes what many ND fans refuse to.

You mean 4th quarter 4th down no time on the clock game winning TDs? That what you mean?

... They don't lose at home and we'd probably be the biggest regular season game ever for them.

They don't lose at home because they play a collection of New Mexicos, Cal State Northridge, Arkansas St, Weber St, Southern Utah, Portland St, Idaho St, Eastern Washington, North Texas, etc, etc, etc,

In the past dozen years they have wins at home against BYU '03 and '04 and Oregon St '06. BTW BYU went 4-8 and 5-6 in '03 and '04. Oregon St went 10-6 and was ranked #22 in the Final Poll in '06.

BSU's vaunted home field advantage consists of a pretty thin record of quality games and an even thinner record of quality wins. "We beat #22!"

Good point, the thought of playing them at there place at night just screams trap game to me. I guess what I'm trying to say is not that we couldn't or wouldn't win, just that we have more to lose than we do to gain by going out there to play.

they did beat an Oregon squad that has been pretty hot since. it is impressive to keep a streak going through conference play. I am not a big fan of Boise, but Chris Peterson is a heck of a football coach.

as for the topic, love this game. It is important to both universities and fan bases. glad to see it continuing.

Yes, haha...Notre Dame beats the crap out of Purdue (most of the time at least), and Purdue gets paid for it.

I'm game for that, as long as it's at home or a neutral venue. They don't lose at home and we'd probably be the biggest regular season game ever for them.

dont forget.... WE ARE ND!
besides us being the best collegiate team ever...we have to be the best college at ending streaks in history.in all sports.ucla and oklahoma anyone?

Add in a neutral site victory over Oklahoma in the Fiesta bowl. Still a classic game.

Yeah the New Mexico teams suck that's for sure... I've been a ND fan since I was born, then again I born & raised in Northern Indiana, got sick of the cold weather and moved to the Warm Southwest. At least here they don't care which College Team you support, and that's cool with me..........

Agree completely. They also were offered a home-and-home by Oklahoma this past offseason and they turned it down. BSU is good, but would probably be pretty average in any BCS conference. They do play Va Tech at a neutral site so at least they've scheduled someone for once.

I do think they need to play teams like OU, and other National Powers to be considered a real BCS team, now don't get me wrong I like Boise State, and I would like to see them play at least two BCS teams. I would like to see them play SC, in Boise..........

Nope ... and Yep. See:

Even the PU AD recognizes what many ND fans refuse to.

My point? There is value and honor in long standing "rivalries." Teams have their ups and downs for a myriad of reasons. Scheduling ongoing "legacy" games have a long term payoff that outweighs, by far, the possible short term gain of attempting to load up on games with projected "darling" teams. The crystal ball has limited range.

Mark Phipps kicked our butts three years in a row when we were ranked #1, #2 and #9. I'll leave it to others to trot out the relevant stats over the years in regard to USC, UM, MSU, Navy and BC (of late), etc.

ND has beaten (or tied) teams over the years that they weren't expected to. They've also been thrashed by teams considered underdogs. Scheduling vagary is a crap shoot. Scheduling tradition is a respectful and a sure winner over time.

IrishGolden raised a comment scheduling Boise St but raised concern about BSU's Home Field Advantage. I posted that advanatage was built upon bottom tier teams with a healthy dose of Div AA teams. They've played few regular season games against ranked teams and even fewer against ranked teams at home.

The win against Oregon was in Eugene. A good road win against a Top 10 team but NOT part of their Home Field Myth.

BG, I agree with what you're saying in terms of bottom feeders, but they did beat an Oregon team that has become hot of late (Blount punch game). I know that overall they stack the deck with lower tier teams, I just smell trap game playing under their rules at their place. A game like this just brings back memories of SC's game against OSU last year where SC was dealt a very difficult hand. It just seems that when these teams do schedule the "big game" they set it up in a manner that gives them as good of an advantage as is allowed. Not saying we wouldn't and couldn't beat the hell out of 'em, just a thought.

I hated LeRoy Keyes on both sides of the ball. He ran over ND as a RB and was a thorn as a DB. Returned an ND fumble 95 yards for a TD.

Parshegian only had 17 losses in 11 seasons. A lot of fans know that Ara struggled with Southern Cal going 3-6-2 but few fans know that Ara was 6-5 against Purdue. And of those 5 losses ND was ranked #1 twice and #2 twice.

It was an exciting game and I'd guess their best win ever over a ranked opponent but again IrishGolden's post was about scheduling BSU and BSU's Home Field Advantage.

The OU win was in the Fiesta Bowl in AZ NOT at Bronco Stadium.

In looking over BSU's records for the past 10 or 12 years Oregon St appears to be their best win in Boise. They could have other wins against ranked teams at ranked home that I missed but whether the number is one or three over a dozen years, the home field advantage wasn't built on quality wins.
They had a home and home, BSU was the host this year: Postgame punch mars No. 14 Boise State's commanding win over No. 16 Oregon - NCAA College Football Recap - ESPN
Oregon hasn't lost since and is currently 11th in the BCS standings

Right you are. '08 was in Eugene and '09 in Boise. I watched this year's game. Mea maxima culpa.

The site I looked at, College Football Data Warehouse, doesn't post '09 records. But my last sentence covers it. The Bronco Stadium myth of invincibility wasn't built on quality wins.
