We're definitely not getting in over a 1-loss conference champ. Have to assume SEC, BIG, PAC champ will have one loss or less. I could see the ACC and B12 cannibalize themselves, but even then you'll have very good 1-loss non-CC teams out of the SEC and BIG at a minimum. I just don't see it, esp if OSU is one of those 1-loss non-CC teams..
Ohio State running the table would help us a lot. Our resume would be stronger than Michigan's or Penn State's. Maybe Bama gets back on track but with them and LSU already having a loss I don't know that you have a one-loss SEC team other than Georgia. We'll see. I think we have a strong shot, if we win out.

I actually don't dislike OSU or Day that much. But attacking Holtz is tacky and strange; Holtz isn't visiting SB to tell everyone that ND is going to lose. Also, Holtz had a winning record vs UM. If I were Day I would shut my mouth until I do too.

So IF we run the table and so do they, does the committee want to see a rematch of this game or do we get left out of the playoffs? If Michigan loses a close one do they get in over us? Lots of teams that can go undefeated this year like Texas, Oregon, etc. I wonder what we are even playing for if the playoff is over. Might be hard to get the guys motivated to win every remaining game only to end up in a meaningless bowl game that Alt and Hartman sit out of.

That was brutal. I am sure the negatives have been beaten to death here so I am going to look at the good of the game.

Love was awesome tonight. He hits the hole decisively and has the great combination of quick and speed. He is gonna be a superstar.

The Freshman receivers had a good second half. Great job by Stuckey to get them up to speed. Their PT is gonna increase and I look forward to seeing them progress.

I love to watch Payne play football. Heart of a warrior.

The OSU D-Line is one of their strengths. The ND O-Line dominated them most of the game. That first drive made me really co rodent that ND was gonna win the game. It was frustrating that ND didn’t take advantage of the first couple drives to put points on the board.

Overall I thought Parker called a decent game. He blew it on the last series though. I loved the full house backfields and he did a nice job of targeting Evans, taking advantage of the mismatch there.

Marvin who? BenMo is a dude. I bragged on him all week to my OSU workmates and they thought I was nuts. The kid is good.

JJB played a heck of a game. Glad he came to the Irish.

X Watts wasn’t perfect, but he gets better every game. He is another guy that I just enjoy watching play the game.

This OSU team is gonna really improve as the season goes on. McCord is a really talented QB who will become a really good player.

In some ways I hate that we have a coach that is learning on the job, but MF is the man for this job. I never felt like ND was the better team during the BK era when we played top level teams. When we win or lost close I always felt like we were punching above our weight class. Last night was brutal, but it felt different. Like we belonged.

Go Irish - Beat Duke.

No one wins championships their first couple years as a head coach. Especially when you're a first timer.

Freeman's building a strong foundation.
Stacking developmental talent and laying the groundwork for a nice run.

If this is still happening in year four then it's time to be concerned, but Freeman appears to learn from his mistakes.

Good question but I think an 11-1 ND at the very least gets non-ND fans to believe b/c they will have beaten a ranked Duke in prime time, a ranked and likely favored SC in prime time & Clemson at Death Valley in prime time which won’t be easy regardless of their record.

I think scUM crushes OSU but I thought OSU would crush scUM last year so what do i know? If scUM loses a close one but OSU wins B1G championship, I think the committee will feel the need to make a statement about scUM’s weak scheduling and ding them for that.

A lot can still happen b/c it’s looking like a year of parity which bodes well for ND IF they can win out. I don’t think they win out b/c human nature makes it tough to turn the mental dial to 10 EVERY game regardless of commitment & talent. The hope is that in those games where you can’t get the boys to 10, talent will win out.

I wondered what that was about. Also, does Day remind you of red faced Michael Scott with a goatee?

Wonder if Holtz issues a statement or his “advisors” protect him. Holtz is old but he didn’t strike me as Joe Biden-old mentally so don’t put it past Coach to issue a statement that claps back at soy boy Day.

There’s exceptions to every rule. Bob Stoops jumps to mind. 1st year head coach who won in year 2 while putting together a HOF career.

Brian Hartline won the chess match with Golden last night. The way he moved Egbuka and Stover around to get them into favorable matchups won them the game.

Shouldn’t that be attributed more to Day? He’s the one calling the plays. Regardless OSU made Golden look like Brian Van Gorder last night

Good call. Either way that was the game. Also the crossing route to Fleming. Coming out of the timeout you saw Day hyping him up. Johnson’s big gainer. OSU had dudes step up with MHJ hobbled/shut down.

And their inexperienced QB looked anything but that. That was my biggest fear. When you hear the ND media push a narrative that makes sense on paper…expect the opposite. I had a feeling McCord would throw darts and avoid pressure despite a highly questionable OL protecting him. Last year the story was OSU’s OL who had highly rated players that had not lived up to their expectations. Lo & behold, they ball out and the LT goes in the top 10 of the draft. Whatever the narrative is going into the game…expect the opposite

Should've kicked their teeth in. We are the better team. Poor coaching in critical moments.

Coaches all need to take accountability here and win out the rest of the season. This team is too talented to not be pushing for a spot in the playoffs.

Never saw Holden Staes last night. Did i just miss him? Evans had a great game but thought Staes would play a part as well

Who was the lineman that was supposed to be on the field at the end of the game?

I can’t get over that Ryan Day interview. Lou Holtz is 86 years old! Think about the elderly 85+ loved ones in your life and imagine using anything they say as the basis for a rant on national TV.
The dude is massively mentally soft as proven time and again, and it shows up in his times. Sucks we didn’t capitalize like UM and others have.

Imagine getting upset about anything said in *this* segment. Literally doing a parody interview with a second Lou Holtz 😂. So much so he doubled down in his post game presser saying he’s “more respectful” than Coach Holtz.

It really is just the craziest thing. Having played DL—and both DT and DE—you absolutely know if there isn’t someone lined up next to you and should be. There wasn’t even any inclination from any of the 10 guys on the field that something was up.

Lol bro come on. They scored 16 points with some of the best skill talent in the country. Golden was happy to bend but not break all night. Please don’t ever mention BVG as a comparison to Golden. He had these guys ready to play last night. I know you’re a good dude but seeing that guy mentioned gives me PTSD

Silence is the best response. Was a dumb thing for Day to even acknowledge. He’s a doofus and shows the world over and over.

This is a good point to bring up. It shouldn’t have even been this close down the stretch. We fuckered important opportunities early to distance ourselves. Then completely botched the end of the game to put it away.

I believe harper did notice. He put his hands out like he was confused and there was some back and forth with the backer near him.

Freeman probably realized it too late AFTER they had the chance to substitute, if at all. The stadium was so loud at that point that there literally no way to communicate anything, especially in the heat of the moment to decide the game.

I say this as someone who got his heart ripped out third row in that endzone.
